How to tame a conure - Taking your bird out of the cage and training steps!

  • Hello everyone! Has been quite a while since I've last uploaded. I apologize.
    Anyway, for this episode, I tackle through the step by step procedure in taming your parrot from scratch! This is the type of content I have not made in my channel so far. In this video, I walk you through the steps on getting started with taking your bird out of the cage. Many bird owners hesitate to take the bird out but, I rather feel that your bird can have a much better time if it engages with you outside of its comfort zone. If you feel that your bird hates you, this video is for you because you will now know how to make your bird like you!
    This is my green cheek yellow sided conure. He was was initially with another female for breeding. You may have seen the pair before in my channel. However, it is unfortunate that the female flew away :/. That is the reason for why I have decided to tame this bird. Note that this taming strategy is completely my own way. You can try out my way as well as other ways available and figure out which works best for you!
    In this video, I talk about safety precautions when taking your parrot out of the cage, basic training to make your bird more friendly with you, teaching your bird how to step up, and how to reward the bird. This method will much likely work for ANY parrot (cockatiel, budgie, lovebird, depending on how quickly it adapts to the new behavior.

    If your Conure is using a water bowl to take a bath in then he needs a birdie bathtub to do his bathing in, one that is big enough for him but not too big. Our Sun Conure loves his. It attaches to the side of the cage. You can get one at a pet store. Thank you for the tips. I agree about the feeding containers being sharp for your bird's feet.

    Im not quite sure if you know the answer to this but I'll ask it anyways. So i used to have a black capped conure and a budgie they both bonded really well together they would eat together the budgie would eat out of the conure's mouth they would fly together basically everything together until sadly i accidentally killed the conure 😢 that day was the worst and the upcoming ones too but the thing is i never showed the budgie what had happened to the conure so it never knew and now after 2 months of it's death i got a new black capped conure it does look a bit different than my last one but when i presented it to the budgie it got sooo happy it instantly flew to it and stayed on top of the cage bobbing it's head like it used to with my last conure 😔😔 but ever since my conure died i got the budgie another budgie and it never rlly seemed that happy until yesterday when i got the conure and well the question is, Does it think it is it's old friend or does it know it's a different one? If it does think is it's old friend is there any consequences or will it ever find out it's not? Oh last thing i forgot to mention my budgie was able to mimick my old black capped conure's noises it has been doing them everyday even when he wasn't here with us 😔 and when he saw the new one it also started to do the noises

    I got my first Sun Conure Yesterday, he has had very minimal interaction with humans despite being captive bread. He was bread with the intention of being used for breading but due to having a abnormal foot the breeder gave him to me. He seems comfortable with me in the room but when I have approached the cage to change the water or food he becomes very scared. I am worried that this will not help us to bond, what should I do?

    • @FuadPhenomenon
      @FuadPhenomenon  3 роки тому +3

      I assume the bird has a subconscious mindset abt getting scared of human beings. It is most likely due to very less interaction with humans. Since he is already an adult, i believe it would take quite a bit of time to get used to you being closer to the bird. All he needs is time :). Stay in the same room very often everyday so he recognizes that you are his friend

His cage is in my bedroom for the time being as this where I do all my work when at home at the moment. Literally in the last hour I have done nothing but sit as close as I can and when he seems comfortable I move an inch closer, I am also moving very slowly. I can now move past the cage without upsetting him. I am so excited 😆 and impressed with him, I will carry on tomorrow.

    Your conure has feather shafts on its head. This may irritate the bird when petting it. The bird might bite you if you irritate it’s head. He needs another bird to pick away at the shafts.

    My conure does not want to get out of its cage, he sometimes steps up to a perch, so I can take him out, but immediately wants to go back to his cage once I bring him to more distance. Will this change by time he feels more comfortable or am I doing something wrong? Did you take out the food of your bird for a certain time in order to lure him to you?

    Hi! Thanks for this video! Do you think I can use the same strategies for two parrots at a time? I'll explain. My first parrot was already hand trained and I got her a friend after a few months cause she suffered heavy separation anxiety when I wasn't with her. She passed away soon after.. I got a new friend (his sister) for my second sun conure, and let them be for a few months. Now I need them to be in the cage (cause of renovations around the house) but they're not hand trained at all. They also have completely different personalities. Do you thin it is possible to hand train them at the same time? I see it might be quite difficult..

    • @FuadPhenomenon
      @FuadPhenomenon  2 роки тому

      Hi 👋. Yes you can definitely train them both together. Your training might even encourage the two birds to get even closer. So to some extent, training both together can be very helpful.

      it is okay to get the birds out temporarily and keep ac on at low. I would not recommend to keep the birds in ur room if u plan to keep ac on overnight tho. It is okay to some extent if u keep the fan on (at low speed) with a heavy cloth or curtain covering their cage

    • @FuadPhenomenon
      @FuadPhenomenon  2 роки тому

      Hi Pooja, I completely understand your bird's situation. A single bird would always want to hang out with us. Is your bird trained enough to eat from your hand? If yes, you can feed your bird and slowly approach towards the front of the cage and eventually get her inside slowly. It would be useful if your bird hasn't eaten anything for a while so she would have no other option but to eat from your hand. Birds need to learn that spending time outside is only for entertainment reasons and not when they need to sleep at night :))) so she could feel sad at first.
