    At night my bird sounds like he’s angry talking to himself like muttering like a gremlin and sometimes he gets a bit loud doing it. Best way to describe it is him arguing incoherently with himself.

      @PoodlesandParrots  Рік тому +8

      LOL like a gremlin😆 Mia does this too sometimes! Some nights she chatters more than others. Parrots, like many other animals, have certain routines or rituals they follow before going to sleep. Chattering or vocalizing can be part of this settling down process. It may help them release excess energy, establish a sense of security, or simply be a habitual behaviour that brings them comfort.

      @PoodlesandParrots Mine has to crawl into my shirt to settle in, and then off to the cage when he's relaxed. He can't just go to his cage. First in the shirt, then the cage where he can grumble himself to sleep LOL

    Three out of four of the Conyers I’ve had have spoken quite a bit. My conure Baby One had over 100 phrases and she understood many of them like when she said give me a kiss and she leaned over and touched my lips with her beak so she said it she knew what it was and she did it. I just don’t like the idea of some people saying Conures can’t speak with or have a very limited vocabulary or they don’t understand really what they’re saying. All not true. Whenever humans have said what animals or even a baby can and can’t communicate or see or understand we’ve been wrong we don’t know what’s in their minds as far as understanding goes

    • @2ndmae1958
      @2ndmae1958 Рік тому

      Yes, they can talk pretty well. Mine says "Give me a kiss" and makes the smacking noise. One time she was on my shoulder and decided to bite my ear lobe. I yelled OUCH and she said, "that's my ear!" So plain. Oh, I forgot. She says "I'm itchy" a lot and I'm certain she associates that with getting her head rubbed.

    My conure mimicks my laugh. Sometimes I laugh quietly under my breath, and he's picked up on that, too. So when he's playing by himself, he's usually laughing and squealing and happy growling. He has a happy growl. His sounds aren't all similar to the ones on this video. He also kisses anything he likes. He makes the kissing sound. He loves the garbage for some reason and has a thing for the dryer. He has to sit by it and watch it when it's on, and he tries to catch the clothes through the window LOL Living with a conure is like living with a very loud toddler.

    My Green-Cheek Conure is a very good talker. She has favorite words and phrases like "Baby Bird", "Give me some seeds" and lately, "Big Chicken" or "Baby Chick Chick." She can also say, "Whacha doing?" "Come in" "Who is it" "Peek-a-boo" "Give me some cerie (cereal), "Give me some sing" then "Dee dee dee dee." There are more but I can't think of all of them. Most of the time it is clear and easy to understand. She's 11 years old. (I say she, but we've never had her tested. I suspect she might be male.) I bought her when she was a baby.

    Thank you so much for this video ! I was searching for something like this a day ago, because I have a conure. She is 4 months old and I got her just 4 days ago:) She is flapping her wings and constantly chirping and grinding and all sorts of things.. It gets confusing sometimes, because I do not know if she is hungry, wants to play or is just talking to me:)

Baby birds will flap their wings are they start to use them more this is usually not a hormonal flapping (conures start hormonal phases around 2 years of age). Chirping and grinding her beak, she is likely content💛- this blog may also be helpful! ;; poodlesandparrots.com/blog/posts/signs-that-your-parrot-likes-you 😊

    I don't know... I have a Sun Conure and she seems to make a lot of sounds similar birds I see on here don't make. She seems to have more of a deeper "voice" for lack of better term. She also does hiss alot, but she doesn't always seem mad when she does them. I can still reach in the cage and she will get on my finger and won't act aggressive.

    My two conures are the best guard dogs you could have. Anyone walks by the front of the house they go into their warning call and it's loud. They also have a warning call for anything white that enters the room. How do you keep your birds off your plants?

My CGG has really bad behavuoral issues and screams like hell when i leave the room , nothing i do has worked and i have paid for support but everything failed so he is a very vocal bird. He has now started making the most horredous screeching noises when in his cage but he has also had an awful hormanal period that strated in Feb and is still ongoing and i am wondering if the trill noise are part of that as they seem constant , Out of ideas

    I have 2 green cheek conures that are approximately 11-12 months old.
    Im not sure of their sexes but i know they came from same batch?,litter?, what is it called? Anyway one is a bit bigger than the other,and is a massive BULLY to the other! He will NOT LET the other eat until he gets his fill first. He chases him away.
    He does not like the other to come near me or anything.
    How can i break this BULLY from picking on the other????

    • @PoodlesandParrots
      @PoodlesandParrots  9 днів тому

      Keep them separate for now to prevent the bullying and allow them to build a bond at their own pace. Focus on spending individual time with each bird to build trust and strengthen your bond with them. Once things improve, you can gradually reintroduce them from a distance and monitor their interactions. For eating, I would definitely recommend setting up separate feeding stations and giving them space apart to reduce tension. Patience is key🗝

    at 9:57 your Conure puts his head down & appears to briefly grab the fabric. My Sun Conure likes to do this on top of his cage but its usually when I'm asking him to step up & he will usually ring his bell before doing this & will keep his head down for several seconds & maybe also flutter his wings a bit. Almost like he is trying to tell me something or expecting something but I'm not understanding. I've looked at other videos for examples of this behavior but yours was the first where I've seen a Conure almost replicate it. Please weigh in. Thanks!

    • @PoodlesandParrots
      @PoodlesandParrots  Рік тому

      Mia does this as a first sign that she is angry about something. So your conure is communicating that something is making him angry, this can also be followed by beak tapping repeatedly or the wing flutters. As you can see at that point she was angry with the camera - she doesn't always like it but depends on her mood or the light - and then she lunged to bite the camera; I wanted to get the video as an example. poodlesandparrots.com/blog/posts/my-parrot-is-biting-why-and-what-can-i-do I would recommend looking at what happens before the behaviour to understand the context and see if there is a pattern. A good way to do this is to video interactions so you can review it afterwards. i am constantly learned about these beautiful birds but I'll be doing a video soon on resources for where to turn to when you need help with bird behaviours and more! Cheers!😊

    Disappointed that you missed putting some examples in. I know there were a couple but off the top of my head, you missed the growling sound although you discussed it. It went to beak tapping. Growling is the sound they make when I'm trying to scritch her and they've had enough. So a warning to hands off.

    • @PoodlesandParrots
      @PoodlesandParrots  Рік тому

      I try to get video footage of as many things as I can but I don't always get the opportunity to get everything on camera but our Poodle & Parrot Pals know I try!🙂 Conures can growl in a variety of situations, and the pitch and intensity of the growl can give clues to what the bird is feeling, this is why I mentioned that context is important! A high-pitched growl can indicate fear/distress/worry/nervousness, while a lower-pitched growl may actually be a sign of relaxation, contentment, or curiousness. By paying close attention to their body language, vocalizations, and behaviour, we can develop a better understanding of our own bird's needs, preferences, and emotions.😁 I'll try to get a few clips of Mia's growls to turn into a YT short!

      Parrots make all kinds of sounds naturally, but we can teach talking through training, repetition, + capture training. Conures are better known for mimicking - Mango mimics a lot, whereas Mia also mimics a few things but had learned to say her name from hearing it all the time! So we captured with positive reinforcement, and now she says her name all the time, especially when she wants some attention 🥹🥹💕I always try to film it, but she stops as soon as I get my camera 😆

      Hi! Please be aware you SHOULD NOT PET YOUR BIRD ON THEIR BACK! Occasional touches are okay (getting something off their back, them leaning against you, kisses, holding them like how she is..) but petting them on their wings, chest, back, etc. for conures means that you LIKE like them! Conures preening other conures (or any other bird for that matter) on areas they can preen themselves means they are their life partner and will eventually want to mate with them. Which unfortunately means petting them there is sexually stimulating. Please only keep to head and neck (and I believe feet is okay, too.)

      I can't say for sure because it depends on what the wings are doing and other behaviours, so it could be attention-seeking could be hormonal;- Wings are not always meant for flying; they often are used to communicate. ie. Wing flapping, or flying in place, is used as exercise, to get your attention, or just to display happiness. Or wing flipping has several meanings, too; Wing flipping accompanied by hunching of the shoulders and head bobbing is attention-getting and often means that a bird wants to be fed. Flipping may also be a mating behaviour. To get to know more info on parrot hormones, check out our blog :) ; poodlesandparrots.com/blog/posts/hormonal-parrots-triggers-signs-tips cheers!

      Not every bird will like being held this way they are all individuals and it may or may not be something they will feel comfortable doing, tune into episode 21 where Mike and I talk about this on The Parrot Podcast!
