Met Charlie Hodge in the 80s when he came over to the UK. Then the Elvis fan club went to Spain for a week and charlie was there for the whole week. Had my photo took with him and of course got his Autograph . Got to say you can tell why Elvis liked him so much he really was a gentleman.
Charlie was truly one of the few people in Elvis' life and death who actually cared about and respected Elvis Presley the man, not just Elvis Presley the superstar and it's clear he knew more about Elvis than we ever will. There is so much more to Elvis' story that we will never know about. I believe Charlie took many secrets about Elvis to his grave. While I'm not sure about him saying Elvis had bone cancer, there's no doubt Charlie loved Elvis a great deal. Charlie never said a bad word about Elvis. If only Elvis had more friends like Charlie, he may have lived longer. Charlie was pretty much like a brother to Elvis, even though Charlie was three weeks older than Elvis. I'm sure when Charlie passed away, Elvis welcomed Charlie back with a handshake, saying "Welcome back, man". RIP, Charlie and Elvis: old friends reunited

I met charlie when he was doing a tribute show to elvis in pigeon forge tn. You could tell how much he still lived elvis. I bought his book and took picture with him. Great great guy

Not virtually, as he was in that he and Elvis sat down and put the shows together, together, and then it was Charlie's job to then see that everyone else, from the band to the backup singers, knew what to do and how Elvis wanted them to do it.

Seems that no one likes the way Graceland is run. That's what I mean about so many people from the Elvis world passing away, soon there won't be anyone left who actually knew him, people who can speak up, and then Graceland can make up anything they want. That's very sad.

Charlie was such a sweet man. I listened to a girl who dated Charlie. And she told the sweetest stuff about Charlie. After Elvis died she went to Graceland a month or so and spent time with Charlie reading letters the fans sent to his family. She said they were the sweetest letters. She helped send thank you notes for flowers and all helping Vernon!

Listening to this interview I can begin to understand why Joe Esposito & Charlie Hodge got so much flack from some of the others; some even going so far as to intimate that Charlie had been a closet gay and in love with Elvis. Seems Joe and Charlie had Elvis's trust and, apart from Geller, I'd say it had been a well placed trust; a gift far greater than anything material Elvis might have given them. Thank you Charlie Hodge for revealing that and I sincerely hope you are with Elvis & Joe again.
I enjoyed this interview; thanks for uploading it. I think Charlie was a true friend to Elvis and undoubtedly the most loyal of the MM, including relatives. However, so many videos of Charlie show him goofing around and really acting kind of silly. This one is great.
Charlie brought in Elvis his drugs and he was the consummate yes man. Yes he played his guitar on stage but it was not plugged into the sound system. His real job was as on stage valet to the big E. Elvis himself marveled at Charlie’s blind devotion, saying, “If I told Charlie to look up at the sky until I told him to stop he’d just keep on looking up.” After Elvis’s death he went on record saying that Elvis had really died of colon cancer - that was of course later discredited. Did Charlie know who Charlie Hodge was? Was he even his own man? I will always wonder.
@Saphire Blue Charlie cashed in on his Elvis association for decades right up to his death. And Elvis would have had no problem with that. All of them, including Charlie took Elvis his drugs. And all of them let him use their names to order prescriptions that produced pills that were for him. None of them had much choice. They were a mediocre group of men without many other prospects in their lives. And Elvis quickly dumped anyone that didn’t toe the line. So they went on and sold their souls for an easy life. But it all ended before they were ready. Most of them denied the drug stories for the first few years, including Charlie. Later they gave up pretending and just admitted it. Each one then claimed that they alone had tried to stop him. Each one of them lied. The sad truth is that only Elvis could have saved Elvis. And he just didn’t. And for what it’s worth I am a fan. He was 1 of the very greatest talents ever, and nothing can ever take that truth away.

Both of my grandparents grew up in Europe and started smoking at 14 & 16 years old - both never had any cancers and are still alive 80 years later. Both in great health & smoke a pack a day. I honestly don’t get it sometimes myself but 🤷🏻♀️

What year was this recorded that he’s able to smoke in a building, you really haven’t been able to smoke in buildings for almost 25 years. I must be getting dense in my old age who the hell is the picture of the young kid that they keep flashing with Charlie Hodge they’ve showed it at least 20 times but there’s no explanation of who that is with Charlie, am I missing something?

You have to look at the movies. My hero James Dean died at the age of 24, but I was on top of the world then and wanted to live. - The Truth About Elvis Aron Presley In His Own Words. (2001). I will start about 1974 when the thought first came to me about faking my death. I have always been fascinated with the occult and other spiritual things. When I first saw a wax dummy of myself made by a Mr. Cooper I was fascinated with it. For some time I had thought if it was possible? Could I pull this thing off? I had asked Mr Cooper if he could make another wax dummy for me. He said he could. I in turn said I wanted him to do it and keep it strictly confidential. When I had mentioned it to a very few close friends (Joe Esposito, Larry Geller) they did not think I was serious. I was tired of being Elvis Presley, my health was deteriorating. I just couldn't keep up. My finances were floundering because of my daddy's poor business ventures. I was at my wit's end. Do you know how many famous people passed away on that date? The great Robert Johnson died on 8-16 and he was born in 1935! Babe Ruth, and Bela Lugosi and many others. I must say I was very nervous that day 8-16. But it had to be done before I went on the road where I would not have been able to pull it off. Did you know there are secret compartments in Graceland that very few people know about! A few like Vester would joke about my being alive but no one took him serious. Many of my friends would ask if I were still alive and they have their doubts but as it was I might have died broke and just a shell of myself. I was given an injection that looked like I was dead but the people closest to me knew better. Believe me I had my doubts that this could be pulled off. But it did and I became Jesse, just a poor white southern boy who didn't sing a lick of anything. I feel bad my Daddy wasn't allowed to know but it just couldn't be done. I met Charlie at an Elvis "convention" in Dublin. He was a harmless idiot, but an idiot nonetheless. Elvis treated him like shit in the hope he would eventually f@ck off. He never did. I think Elvis treasured male company without forming any real friendships beyond Red West, Jerry Schilling, Lamar Fike, Joe Esposito, and maybe even, Larry Geller. The rest merely ingratiated themselves with him. Elvis treated his friends badly, similarly the women who tried to get close to him. I don't think he did so in a deliberate fashion. There was just some kink in his mentality that did not allow for intimacy. I think this is a common among many performers. They can relate to the general rather than the particular. It stems from lack of parental love, apparently.

Omg i didnt even know this was charlie at first. Charlie was so shy when he was younger in the band. You would always look up Elvis. He looks so shy money put the towels around his neck.

Listening to this interview I can begin to understand why Joe Esposito & Charlie Hodge got so much flack from some of the others; some even going so far as to intimate that Charlie had been a closet gay and in love with Elvis. Seems Joe and Charlie had Elvis's trust and, apart from Geller, I'd say it had been a well placed trust; a gift far greater than anything material Elvis might have given them. Thank you Charlie Hodge for revealing that and I sincerely hope you are with Elvis & Joe again.

I enjoyed this interview; thanks for uploading it. I think Charlie was a true friend to Elvis and undoubtedly the most loyal of the MM, including relatives. However, so many videos of Charlie show him goofing around and really acting kind of silly. This one is great.
All the other guys, lived elsewhere, moved out, got 2nd careers, Charlies was with Elvis till the end.

Charlie brought in Elvis his drugs and he was the consummate yes man. Yes he played his guitar on stage but it was not plugged into the sound system. His real job was as on stage valet to the big E.
Elvis himself marveled at Charlie’s blind devotion, saying, “If I told Charlie to look up at the sky until I told him to stop he’d just keep on looking up.”
After Elvis’s death he went on record saying that Elvis had really died of colon cancer - that was of course later discredited.
Did Charlie know who Charlie Hodge was?

Charlie cashed in on his Elvis association for decades right up to his death. And Elvis would have had no problem with that.
All of them, including Charlie took Elvis his drugs. And all of them let him use their names to order prescriptions that produced pills that were for him. None of them had much choice. They were a mediocre group of men without many other prospects in their lives. And Elvis quickly dumped anyone that didn’t toe the line. So they went on and sold their souls for an easy life. But it all ended before they were ready.
Most of them denied the drug stories for the first few years, including Charlie. Later they gave up pretending and just admitted it.
Each one then claimed that they alone had tried to stop him. Each one of them lied.
The sad truth is that only Elvis could have saved Elvis.
And he just didn’t.
And for what it’s worth I am a fan. He was 1 of the very greatest talents ever, and nothing can ever take that truth away.

Vodka was my drink too. I couldn't drink either. I drank too fast & I'd just either fall asleep or get sick. I just quit. For a few months I did that.

@@belindascott6916 he died of lung cancer. At age 71, Charlie was fine doing what he wanted. He lived his life doing what he loved with people he loved. That’s a success as far as I am concerned.
My mother smoked , lived to 93. Died from a hip fracture.
Both of my grandparents grew up in Europe and started smoking at 14 & 16 years old - both never had any cancers and are still alive 80 years later. Both in great health & smoke a pack a day. I honestly don’t get it sometimes myself but 🤷🏻♀️

And I was exactly thinking everyone wanted authority but saddest part was here's the woman who left him when he needed most and she has authority on his wealth fame name after he is dead. I don't hate her coz she left its her choice right in her ways but how come she take that authority. We hear friends, fans even stranger talking on behalf of him to clear all false allegation but we can see not precila nor daughter try that hard to keep his name as generous n pure soul he was rather only on his wealth
What year was this recorded that he’s able to smoke in a building, you really haven’t been able to smoke in buildings for almost 25 years. I must be getting dense in my old age who the hell is the picture of the young kid that they keep flashing with Charlie Hodge they’ve showed it at least 20 times but there’s no explanation of who that is with Charlie, am I missing something?

I never understood what Elvis saw in Charlie Hodge. He never came across as being very sincere.
I met Charlie at an Elvis "convention" in Dublin. He was a harmless idiot, but an idiot nonetheless. Elvis treated him like shit in the hope he would eventually f@ck off. He never did. I think Elvis treasured male company without forming any real friendships beyond Red West, Jerry Schilling, Lamar Fike, Joe Esposito, and maybe even, Larry Geller. The rest merely ingratiated themselves with him. Elvis treated his friends badly, similarly the women who tried to get close to him. I don't think he did so in a deliberate fashion. There was just some kink in his mentality that did not allow for intimacy. I think this is a common among many performers. They can relate to the general rather than the particular. It stems from lack of parental love, apparently.
