I am! Every two weeks. Today my machine broke down! First time for me. One of the lines snapped. The inside of the machine was a bloody mess ("bloody" meaning literally that). Unfortunately that means my donation is contaminated. I'll be back though.
One question, why does platelet donation typically begin to hurt at the injection/withdrawal site(s) after about an hour in? I haven't experienced this puncture site pain with Plasma donation which I assume uses the same process
So is it possible for your blood to come in contact or be mixed with blood from a person who previously used the machine? I can tell there is new needles and tubing used, but my concern is during the separation process
No contact at all bc the whole process is done inside of closed tubing … so there’s no contamination from one patient to the next bc the blood is inside the closed tubing at all times throughout the entire process ❤… my husband had to receive a plasma donation recently and we had so many questions before, during, and after the plasma exchange.
I'm sure there is a cleaning process which ensure all needles and tubes are cleaned ord replace. It is like the auto hématologue analyser, there are solutions that we pass between blood samples
@@yannickkamta2719 they use completely brand new for each person. Everything stays inside the tubes at all times so there is no cleaning to do, they just throw away tubes after each use.
Fascinating! I've been hooked up to one of these dozens of times, but I've never thought about the machine that made it possible.

No, the apheresis sets are single use only; they get destroyed after use
