- The Bat Bros are joined by Tyler (13 years old), Ryan (13 years old), and Jett (11 years old) to compare the new 2023 green Meta to the previous 2022 orange Meta.
Following two years of the same tech in 2021/2022 with the Black/Gold and Orange/Blue USSSA Meta, Louisville Slugger has incorporated "gapped-wall" technology into their 2023 Meta - a design that has seen a lot of success in the fastpitch softball world.
Both bats are USSSA 32/24 drop 8.

Mostly it's so the bats last longer, last time he followed the instructions to break in a bat and it totally blew up with him swinging it while following the suggested break in procedure. Basically these bats are a consumable, and hitting the stuffing out of them isn't exactly a fair representation of how they will preform with the bat speed that they were intended to be used at.

No putting these kids down there great hitters but these new bats today are giving kids a false sense of power any kid can pick up a bat and just smashed a home run and that's not how it really goes they pick up a wood bat once they get older there's going to be let down when they can't hit the ball as far as everyone else

What I'd love to see in this video is the Rapsodo, where the players can't see the #'s. It's very difficult, and albeit impossible for an 11-13 year old to truly define "pop".

A little over two weeks ago my high school coach personally bought the team 3 brand new bats (2023 meta 32-29, cat x 32-29, and cat x 33-30) they are amazing.
My son loves his 2023. He bought it himself. 29 drop 8. Turned 9 four months ago and he has hit it over the 200ft fence. He’s hyped

I've coached 6-14 year olds both rec and travel and never seen a league or tournament where USSSA is allowed.
Almost all of travel-ball is USSSA-approved. Maybe it’s a regional thing where you’re from?

Probably is, I played LL for 5+ years, never allowed to use a u-trip or bbcor
Most of the country, travel ball tournament are usssa through 13U (some lower level into 14U). Some areas like by me have big travel ball leagues (usabl in northeast) that are USA only

I just got the 2023 meta and I like it. Bbcor 32 29. I went from the 2022 select pwr. I don’t know what I like more
2023 select pwr better than both of those honestly. I’ve swung every bbcor meta, and every bbcor select pwr. I’ve never really had a feel close to what the newer select pwr was. It’s insane. The meta is great for singles and speedy doubles.

I think they may have felt like the 2021/2022 was too difficult to break-in for the younger end of USSSA players. The 2023 is a little hotter out of the wrapper.

We picked up the green back in early September and have just used it for fall ball. We've loved absolutely everything about it but the barrel is already loading up with cracks and exits are becoming increasingly inconsistent.

Have you ever considered doing a bat madness with BESR bats? It'd be interesting as well now since it seems like you've been increasing your power and to find out how they all compare to each other. You should also try to get your hands on a Rawlings Rush besr, I swung a 32 back when I was younger and actually hit some decent bombs
You probably won’t see this but we just won our first school baseball game of the season.
And a player on the 8th grade team hit one over a green monster it went about 335 to 350
The gapped wall tech in theory should be hotter and more durable, much like how the double wall and triple wall bats from the 90s were next level but it seems that LS went about it the wrong way. Maybe because of patents or regulations, but gapped wall and non-linear barrel bats have had a lot of trouble getting out there
One thing to note is that even though double barrel/ double wall/gapped wall barrels may retain the same amount of durability for hitting, this doesn't apply to damage such as bat flips, smacking against your cleats, or walking on the bats. In those cases, the thinner walls tend to be less durable
