    In this video I replace the broken gaiter or bellows on our caravan. The hitch on our caravan is the ALKO AKS3004 stabiliser style, which needs to be removed for the rubber boot to come off and be replaced. I share the steps involved for replacing the gaiter and share some tips along the way.

    Hi Dan, we are currently on a trip away and watched with interest your video on replacing the hitch gator. Then "bless" a couple of days later we found that grease was coming out of a small hole in our gaiter! So your timing on how to fit a new one was perfect. I will be replacing it as soon as we get home, thank you again as always for a very useful video!

      Hi Dan, thank I have checked the list it is perfect. However on checking j found that the grease was coming out of one of the breath holes, so it's not split. It does however make noise at low speed, Al the pads look good so I may try shimming the pads out. But why so much grease escaping any ideas?

    Excellent video as usual Dan. You don't fancy changing the damper do you? Mine has gone and I'm scared to do it myself so your videos would really help😂

      Ha, no - I’m sure there are some videos on how to replace the damper, it shouldn’t be too difficult, once you know the tricks. 👍

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Місяць тому

      Ok, make sure you have the correct one, there are literally hundreds of variations, also do the hot water trick, that was the only way I could get mine back over the plastic retaining ring.

    on a 1 yr old caravan the gaitor has been split by a snapped front retaining ring which holds the gaiter forward against the hitchhead usually caused by an emergency stop with caravan on and splits it probly jagged in side gaitor you have fitted new part without retaining ring the gaitor will not stay forward exposing drawbar shaft to debris i had same problem superglued it to hitchhead

      @jackdec1 Місяць тому

      David did the Glue really work as I have the same problem

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Місяць тому

      Hi David, ive visited the local caravan dealership, asked the technicians to verify my installation of this gaiter, and they have both confirmed this is correct, indeed this gaiter on the ALKO AKS3004 has no front retaining clip. Ive looked at the Swift, Bailey and Adria hitch heads today - they are all exactly the same as what I have demonstrated here.
      Hope that helps.

    Very helpful as always..really enjoy watching your channel very helpfull ...have you ever done any videos on the whalemaster water connection..I'm having really annoying issues with mine..keeps running on and off every few mins..can't get to the bottom of it...Happy caravaning...

      If this were me, I would be looking for a leak in the water pipes, partly because I'm always concerned about possible water where it shouldn't be! Also though it means that the pump is not holding pressure. Like when you open a tap, the pump starts to re pressure the system. Another possible reason maybe the pressure valve could be letting water flow back? And need replacing, not so sure if this is a possibility? But could it be worth checking?

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Місяць тому

      We have the same issue, and I needed to adjust the pressure screw on the back of the housing. But, it changes depending if we are on EHU or off grid. Ive purchased the Whalemaster IC unit, to see if this stops the switch on every 15mins or so and I have just had the kitchen tap replaced too, as this had a very minimal leak. I'll report back if this cures it.

      It's strange really..I went through the calibration process once I repaired the crack on the inlet pipe outside..but still nit sorted..where is the pressure screw located..is it inside the yellow box just on the inside of the connect point...

    Hi Dan, where do you get Allpurpose Lithium grease from?

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Місяць тому +1

      Hi, you can find it quite easily on Amazon. Depending on what cartridge size your grease gun accepts will dictate what is available.
      The grease gun I listed in the shopping list does come with lithium I believe. 👍
