Most professors that held a doctorate that have ever gotten caught plagiarizing a paper would lose their credentials period and that’s it I mean how much is she plagiarized? Did she plagiarize her papers to obtain her PhD if she did, she should lose her PhD only she resigned from the position she held at Harvard. She should no longer be employed by Harvard at all. Essentially, her career and academia should be over because anybody else they would be over now.
But you forgot that she is a black woman, who cannot be fired for the same way as others do.
I have a PhD and that is my understanding. That being said I witnessed several cases of plagiarism during my graduate studies and was never clear on the reporting protocols. My intuition is that academia is rife with plagiarists. It will be interesting to see how this blatant high-profile case will play out.
What is the review process for plagerism at Harvard? Or do you think there should be one?
I went to an elite U but not US so I dont know but I imagine it is fairly explicit and robust. And yes I absolutely think there must be a formal inquiry into Gay's academic integrity. It seems quite clear that she is a serial plagiarizer and her degrees and theses affected should be reviewed and if grounds are found they should be revoked. It does happen fairly often in Academe that degrees are revoked along with awards etc when plagarism is proven.@@mj0037

Penny Pritzker was the driving force (connections, financing) behind Obama's entire political career. As repayment, she was named Secretary of commerce. This was an ideal cabinet position to further her, individual, and family business interests. In 2018 Obama made an additional payment to dear Penny by having her named to the Harvard Corporation Board and then insure she became its president. The idea that Claudine Gay was solely Pritzker choice is laughable on its face. Pritzker was given the same mandate that Joe Biden was given when he was running for president and was on the verge of losing the Democratic nomination. "If you want my and Michel's help to get you nominated and then elected, you have to pick a woman of color as your running mate regardless of her qualifications."

I am baffled. I understood plagiarism to be wrong and Harvard had previously sacked students and academics who engaged in it. Obviously standards have slipped.
More baffling is the appointment of a minor academic of little consequence to one of the most prestigious appointments in academia. Under Pritzker's watch, Gay was appointed - a person who has produced no body of work, written no books and only written 11 papers. Now she has 50 allegations of plagiarism made against her.
But as usual she is claiming victimhood! It''s never their fault for these people. They never take responsibility. It's so much easier to claim they are the victims of another's conspiracy than be master of their own destiny.

People have mentioned she didn’t write books. I don’t know if that should be too much of a determinate if there are other signs of academic excellence like research or whatever. It seems though that writing scholarly articles for trade journals as an example would be an important determinate along with other things. Perhaps having ran a university elsewhere successfully. If you are serving on the board of overseers at Harvard now there is a direct correlation between amount of money you have and your influence. Nobody had more influence than Pritzker on the Harvard board because she is an heiress worth 20 billion or more. Obama, and Pritzker tried an failed to save Gay's behind the scenes, they had helped put in her in the job, but the negative press doomed Gays brief tenure as Harvard President.

This looks like it would be a good double standard class action lawsuit for those who were terminated from Harvard for plagiarism vs Harvard rewarding a now faculty member for doing the same. I never had the SAT scores, and more importrantly the money or connection to attend such an institution. However, no sour grapes here. I still had respect for those who were able to graduate from Harvard, and especially graduate with honors. Today, I would rather have my state university degree, my integrity, and my self-respect. Harvard must decide their future. Will they return to a respected institute of higher learning that encourages independent thought and rigorous discourse? Or will they continue their current course of restricting thought, speech, and controlling discourse on campus? To pursue the former, both Gay and Pritzker must be removed from the university. They must also be followed by any administrator or professor who does not support independent thought. As for now, they are a university blighted by the actions of the Corporation and Administration.
