Demodex mites are tiny, eight-legged mites that live on the skin. They are commonly found on the face, specifically around the eyelashes. Demodex mites are usually harmless, but in some cases, an overgrowth of these mites can lead to irritation and inflammation of the eyelashes and surrounding skin. This condition is called demodex blepharitis. It can cause symptoms such as redness, itching, and eyelash loss. Serious cases of demodex infections are commonly seen in people with weakened immune systems, as well as those who have certain skin conditions, such as rosacea.

having dry eye and in case of mites i have been scrubbing my eye lid margins with soap, sometimes tea tree soap, for a year, and shall do so for the rest of my life. however, if this is enough to get rid of them or not kindly say. i'm not taking any chances but its useful to know if by now they are probably all gone or instead they cannot be gotten rid of. apparently around 60-80% of people get them by 60 years of age or maybe 70 bt yeah ugh, horrible. ideas or advice are great thank you.

Hi Dr I have been treating mites for possibly 20yrs. I n Drs didnt know n treated it for Bleptheritis.
However, as my eyelids are cleaned for at least an hr every night because they come out at night, I gave managed to get the numbers down.
What happens is by the time I am 'getting them out' there is no mess around the eyes. However, you can see them at the base of the eyelash. N I am allergic to them, sending me into a fit of severe sneezing, where I have fractured bones.
By the time I am getting them out they can be the size of a pin head, a pin price or a v small dot. I use a x15 magnified mirror without distortion.
What I found in the last 10 years has been
Colloidal Silver kills them on contact, but it has to make contact with the mite. UNFORTUNATELY the silver is so fine that it eventually ascorriated the surface of the eyeball according to the Opthomoligist.
I have tried every suggestion. Next was a spray I made up on the recommendation of a hairdresser overhearing my conversation, n suggested SOLVAROME. It is French n a combination of various plant oils n that is a godsend, for all mite treatment including lice. Just mixed with boiled/filtered water. It is more gentle and kills them.
However, they are still hatching eggs n juveniles which are in the hair follicle so u just have to remove them as they appear.
The problem is by the time they appear due to you continued cleaning, which involves wiping the eyelashes back n forth AS WELL AS CIRCULAR MOTION.
By this stage, they do NOT LOOK LIKE THE CRAWLY OBJECT AS SHOWN ON THE SCREEN. In presenting what you get out, they are usually dead n may appear as small as a fine grain of sand, n if left to dry on your skin, is actually like that finest grain of sand, n can also scratch the fine membranes of inside the eyelid. This also interrupts the my....bial oil glands which is where the oil for moisturising the eyeball giving you problem #2, which, in fact, is what Bleptheritis is. Blocked glands. The cause of DRY EYE 4 which treatment with steam n usually your optomistrist squeezes out using special tool.
Next I found that Tea Tree oil also kills them. So I painted it on the eyelashes which nearly killed me. There is a TEA TREE OINTMENT. Perfect 4 the job.
I initially treated it with a paint brush, n this treatment was continued when I was in a coma for 5weeks n continued by hospital till I cld do it. It kills, n removes what it touches. So those who have Bleptheritis, it is ideal.
And so it goes. Pathology labs don't know it in its dead state, which is all you are getting.
They bite, nibble, give off a chemical fume, which had me for years just keeping eyes closed, but sneezing like a volcano, fracturing even vertebrae.
Initially, what I noticed in my 50s, is that a developed a white line, like an eye-liner along the base of the eyelashes. N then I could not apply eyepencil,or make-up as it felt very bruised. Even using a very fine brush.
It seems like this is a forever problem n a major problem for me.
I recall visiting a nursing home in the early 60s n seeing many, particularly men with the cakey mess around the eyes, so red n sore n usually watering. For some reason I can't forget.
They were being eyelashes with warm salty water.
I understand those with an impaired immunity really suffer the problem, which is y I had the problem in the 1st place.
Dr. Could you please contact me n I will give you more information gleaned from 20 years of battling this problem.
I am in my mid 70s now.
Optomistrist n opthomoligist, pathology labs have not been treating this parasite correctly.
It breaks my sleep between 2 - 4am every night.
Studies I have found is the mating goes out on your face, not in the eyelash follicles. N I think this is right.
This is a sadly NEGLECTED area of health that is not understood by those that should know.
As far as I have found in 20 years that helps in the recognition n treatment are only 2 VIDEOS ON UA-cam. Every other is incorrect n is repeated by those who should know, but don't.
You can't treat Demodex mites the same as Bleptheritis. 2 totally different problems.
Unfortunately the eyedrops that relieves dry eye best is TOO EXPENSIVE but I know what to do to avoid them.

Nah there's a higher chance that he/she wasn't educated about it than you being crazy about your own body.
Don't ever use anyone else's mascara. Make yourself a tea tree oil solution. No synthetic and very diluted cuz that stuff is not meant to get inside your body cuz it's very strong.
But I've accidentally wiped with it, I've swallowed it lol. Got it in eyes cuz I'd drip it on my showerhead. The first two are much worse, and in that order lol. Best wishes!
My Dr looked at me like I was crazy too. Now I have no eyelashes. Plz go to an eye specialist not just an eye doctor. I was diagnosed too late
If you have a dog infested with these, be afraid. Be VERY afraid! Neem oil will kill them.

If you’re going to a retail doc (not sure if that was your situation), many won’t do well at treating medically. Some, but not all.

Hi please please help!! Years ago l used to have a sensation of things crawling on my face. After that l have sensation of something all over in my eyes, it feels soft and wriggly like microscopic worms. Optician said it was dry eyes and l have been using artificial tears for 2yrs with no real effect. Recently l did a detox and the sensation is much much quieter, does that suggest some kind of parasite and what could it be? Can dermodex mites live in the actual eye? I do not see any collarettes or have any mucus etc
Use Tea Tree oil to kill the infection. Use q tips to rub a small amount mixed with almond oil on the eyelids to keep them from causing you eye issues.

A doc completly dismissed my complaints of often feeling little micro stabs. Eat my demodex.
They are completely normal and would never be the reason of a stabbing sensation. They're literally smaller than the feeling of a pinhead and do not bite, they drink skin oil.

@@jennyrose9454 agreed. I will even go as far as saying don’t use straight tea tree and dilute because I don’t trust any label as far as concentrations or “ other ingredients “”. Buying a product designed and tested for eyes that has it in it is safer for sure. Too many tea tree oils that have fillers and other things than could do major damage to the ocular surface and more.

True story, I've been a Veterinary Assistant for 20+ years and Demodex is one of the most common mites. They live on all of us, but when your immune system is compromised you need to be more cautious so you dont ❤
Good to hear you at least know. You have the drug in your kit that KILLS them. But because of warnings, humans are not allowed to have more than 2 treatments as it may kill all the necessary parasites in the body.

Some of y'all think this is fake. actually, no it’s not. When I was studying I felt my eyelashes are itching so I touched my eyelashes, Boom. I saw a very very very very very tiny bug on my eyelashes which is this bug. So I was like: WTH- and then I washed my hands💀
You can't see these without a microscope. So you had some other kind of mite/bug.
That's not possible as they are a tenth of a millimeter long. You saw something else.

My dog has this. Has for 15 years. Never had a problem uh untill now. Not saying this is my problem, but not saying it isn't. They say it's not possible for Demodex cross contamination but not sure they know for sure.

It appears I have actually had every condition on this Platform. Every Eye Doctor not skilled in their profession. I was a Travel Registered Nurse from Tx & married a Service Man from SC. It was awful. When I am in other locations never had problems. Have a bag of Eye solutions. Once clear it's short lived.

The problem is this: even if you get a Doctor to admit that they see demodex on your lashes they still don’t know how to treat them. The best they seen to come up with is, oh, get some tea tree oil wipes! Many cannot use tea tree oil without a allergic reaction. We are basically on our own with this condition sad but true

The Doctor's i work for have no problem making our patients aware if they have lash mites, and yes, tea tree oil is something recommended, but absolutely NOT the only form of treatment. Use of combining steriods and ointments can help immensely and Moreover, unlike tea tree oil, try HOCl ! 😊
It's not a problem, it's not treatable even if we'd want them to be because these mites live in basically ALL hair follicles on all people. It's like saying you want a 'treatment' to eliminate your gut bacteria - not only is it basically impossible, you'll also be way worse without it if you do somehow get it... This guy's a clown. When buildup on eyelashes starts, it's either because the colony overbred, died out, or because of a person's bad/excessive hygiene, bad health habits or some disorders

Eye washes, eyelash scrubs. Infestations require permethrin and Ivermectin. "Some" Mites are actually normal and help certain balances. Infestations cause infections itching and hair loss.
Tea tree oil. coconut oil helps with some types too.

While some nuisance conditions can be caused by a proliferation of demodex, it is very important to keep in mind that most people would never notice or be bothered by them. They are almost perfect commensalitsts who are usually harmless.

For the most part, yes. Some eyewashes or lid scrubs with tea tree oil have been showed to be effective.

@@crimsonhermitI went to one for a year and a half,she wanted me to see a psychiatrist. Each month she could see hair lessening until she saw my eyelashes disappearing, told me to go to eye Dr. He thought I was crazy.

@@chaima2909 update. Didn’t get rid of them unfortunately because dr REFUSE to give me meds. He only wants to do cleaning which puts more money in his pocket. However, I will look in a different country like Mexico where medicine is not a business unlike here.
