European Central Bank holds interest rates, hints at cut ahead

- The European Central Bank on Thursday held interest rates steady for a fifth straight meeting, as anticipation builds for rate cuts in June.
“If the Governing Council’s updated assessment of the inflation outlook, the dynamics of underlying inflation and the strength of monetary policy transmission were to further increase its confidence that inflation is converging to the target in a sustained manner, it would be appropriate to reduce the current level of monetary policy restriction,” it said in a statement.
Policymakers and economists have zeroed in on June as the month when rates could start to be reduced, after the ECB trimmed its medium-term inflation forecast. Price rises in the euro zone have since cooled more than expected in March.
The ECB will not budge until the Fed decides what it wants to do. That's what "followers" do.

ECB has to calibrate its interest rates based on EU economic health & USA interest rates. Christiane Lagarde (spl?) calibrates EU rates - she said so earlier this year, 2024. EU inflation mirrors US economic growth, trade, inflation, unemployment & wages. Energy there is🎉 highly taxed as it imports energy & wants to xfr into EV transportation vehicles. 2.7% in March 2024. etc.
England left EU & last I read was rising from 8% to over 10%. Britain lost its EU market & now pays more for EU products.
USA's inflation is peanuts to EU's.
Ukraine & Middle East are the two key conflicts affecting global growth & needs.
As always, it's a see-saw. Now, thanks to Putin & Hamas - plus Israel & Iran.
