- As a part of the Annual Lecture by Centre for Policy Analysis, Professor Akeel Bilgrami spoke about the idea of secularism in India and its historical meaning. He delved into the importance of understanding the historical context in which the concept emerged, the way it was incorporated in Indian discourse and then goes on to explain its relevance in this day and age, connecting it to the current debates over CAA and NRC.
As is there an Indian version of nationalism,so also there should be an Indian version of secularism.The base for this is more appropriately a kind of non-violent,non-interfering inter-relationship among the social,cultural,ethnic and religious communities living as compatriots to each other.
