- The number of people displaced by an erupting volcano in the Philippines soared to more than 61,000 by Jan. 24, after two eruptions. The first happened on Monday, sending lava as high as 700 meters and ash 3 kilometers up in the air. The second eruption happened on Tuesday, producing an ash column at least 5 kilometers high. Mount Mayon, located about 330km southeast of the capital Manila, is considered to be the most volatile of the Philippines' 22 active volcanoes.
The Philippines is part of the Pacific "Ring of Fire" islands that were formed by volcanic activity. Mount Mayon has erupted over 50 times in the past 500 years and the most deadly eruption was in 1814, when the ashes buried a small town, killing more than 1,000 people.

The recent MAJOR one was in 1986 eruption which the whole body of mayon was emitting ash
I thought that it was only pyroclastic flow but it is the linear craters beside the mayon dominating the landscape..
Perhaps its frequent eruptions alleviate buildup of magma, which was what happened right before Mount St. Helens exploded and the entire north face of the volcano collapsed.

What is stronger mayon or taal?
Tree Root if you compare both eruption from last year to this past days, taal emitted more pyroclastic and ash falls than from Mayon last year. But if you want to know the strongest eruption in the Philippines recorded, it would be Pinatubo (magnitude 6) it even destroyed its own shape

I remember seeing the ash and smoke come out of Mt. Mayon from school and from the apartment my Mom, sisters and I lived at. At school you would see people gathering around at school and the smoke would be seen really high up.

Taal is The deadliest because pinatubo only erupted once and death toll rised about 900 deaths plus the lahar..
Taal is a really active volcano, it erupted 32 times and the most historic was 1774,1911,1965,1975
Death toll of all the historic eruptions of taal was
Estimated 3,500+ if I'm correct.. But all of its eruption plus the historic one might be off the chart.
I'm not saying that Taal is stronger than Pinatubo rather Taal is the most unpredictable and more active than pinatubo..

It's name is Mayon which came from a beautiful lady named Magayon. It's not because someone is hugging her. It was believed (based on the legend) that when clouds surrounds Mt. Mayon, Ulap (which literally translated as cloud in English) is hugging her coz he missed her. Magayon and Ulap has this tragic love story and to know better, you can check out the legend of Mt. Mayon, and how it came to be. I'm from where it is located (Legazpi, Albay), so I know.
