Tim doesn’t talk until the last minute of this video. Making this the best KF video of all time
i love you colin
+Go Hawks you again?! UA-cam is a small world. Go back to the bandwagon!
+Go Hawks Join the club man. High five (^_^)/
+chris71388 Lol this guy ...
Shane L ik right
fucking right, finally a main stream pundit not afraid to give opinions that are not ridiculously homogeneous
Colin is the voice of the voiceless
+Salivating Salamander Colin is CM Punk?
+It's All Johnny what did you think the CM stands for?
***** Holy shit
It's so sad everything Colin expresses here, lead to him not being on the show anymore true character assassination at its finest I'm definitely gonna miss that man
Moriarty Rants. This should be a thing.
+Zachary Bernal Xpeke.
It's become kinda of a ritual for me to stay up til 3am and watch these when they come out.
Tim and Nick really didnt want to be a part of this topic, lol.
nope lol
+Nelson Smith I feel that they never really give any input into the more serious and socially-relevant topics that are brought up (usually by Colin). I don't know if this is because they do not care, or do not feel confident in their knowledge of the topic to provide input.
its very scary how similar me and colin are.............nah it aint weird its fucking awesome
+arad21 Interesting maybe you can link to a video or a twitter post of him saying that (climate change). Or maybe you could stop slinging mud long enough to realize your the problem.
Beast
+arad21 So intelligently argued, your comment.
***** this is exactly what colin was talking about in the video....throwing out labels because we align with the right without even having a political conversation with me
+Go Hawks YOUR NOT KID END OF.
"the other side is running 5 white dudes" lol shoutout to my boy Collin for calling Hillary a dude.
Anita Sarkeesian is what goes through my head while i listen to this
Not sure why. She is often concerned with the treatment of women in video games and the reinforcement of lesser than, sex-object status. I've not listened to all her stuff but I've not heard her say anything as bland and pointless as there needing to be more women in video games, except maybe tangentially.
+Sean Hendrix Because she puts people down with her reductive opinions/beliefs, and labels them bigots, racists, sexists and misogynists when they don't align with her exact mindset. Which is what Colin was talking about, lol.
+Transfiguration All you have to do is have played Hitman Absolution, then go and watch Anita's review of it to see how far she is willing to go in order to get support. You are completely correct. She's making money off of suckers and most of the things she utters are complete false and even propaganda like.
Clear706
Her entire shtick is to cherry pick very small sections of games, and make immensely huge and exaggerated generalizations to fit her narrative. Which happens to be mostly false when you actual know the game shes talking about. The Hitman example is so hilarious how she even came to that conclusion. So she sees someone drag a women over their shoulders, and all of the sudden, the character and developers are sexist misogynists, because this somehow proves how hostile men are towards women. But the reality of that situation, was you only do that once or twice the entire game, and that same mechanic she was bitching about, is something you do towards men the vast majority of the time. It's so off the mark, that I don't know how anybody takes her seriously. She's just selling a modern day version of snake oil, and you have a lot of people who are eating that shit up. It's frighting how much misinformation she creates that people believe to be true.
Me too... she's such a negative, whining commentator when it comes to this stuff. I feel bad that she gets harassed so much but then what she says is so contoured to fit a victim mentality that it basically lacks any credibility. I dunno she needs to disappear and help feminism from behind the scenes and get out of the lime light because she has a face for radio at this point.
Tim said 5 words in this topic.... "I like it, The Rhino". xD
Because Tim only speaks up when he has something to contribute.
+napoleonseven okay? would you rather him speak on a topic he's not that knowledgeable about? I can guarantee that when you're in a group discussion, and a topic you are not familiar with too much comes up, you stay quiet. It happens to everyone, foh.
+Hector Ramos yea thats exactly what colin does but no lets hate on tim.
+Hector Ramos I wasn't criticizing Tim.
+iownalx23 Colin offers thoughtful, informed perspective.
One of the big reasons I watch this show is because of Colin. However, I consider everyone, even Kevin, a best friend. But Colin makes me think, informs me on topics school never touched upon, and can even change my views, and/or reinforce my stance on certain issues. So thank you Colin, a lot of people look up to you. Keep doin' you, man.
Colin is Legit a man close to my heart respect everyone's choices and views even if they differ from yours and don't be so fucking sensitive about everything, offence is not given offence is taken
I'm a Republican who is an Acting Major and most of my friends and social groups are other liberal arts majors, so thank you, Colin, for reminding me that I am not the only person in the world who feels alienated and attacked in this way.
i am a conservative christian and i get tons of flak from all sides. I'm 32 and i have tattoos, piercings, i listen to "goth" industrial techno, have spiky hair etc. so when i meet new people they think I'm liberal, and when i have actual conversations about my beliefs and values people will treat me like I'm betraying them based on their first impression of me. hard to explain but the amount of bias and anger directed toward me is unbelievable at times, and like Colin says do people REALLY feel that way??
Colin, let me preface this by saying that I have the utmost respect for you and your views. I think you bring valid arguments to all your points, and it's very refreshing to hear a person speak so passionately about their beliefs, even if I may not agree with many of them. I don't want to get into talking about Left vs Right, but what did catch my attention was your thoughts on minorities, colours, and females in games/movies. Again, I'm not looking to attack, just wanted to voice my views. Equal opportunity in films for actors IS something that needs to be addressed. As a minority and someone who is pursuing acting/writing, I've noticed how casting directors/agents instantly brush us as 2 or 3 specific characters, and nothing else. I've seen movies and T.V shows with an all white cast where 2-3 of the main characters could easily have been played by a person of a different race, or in some instances, even a different gender. Many people give the argument of talent, which I call bullshit on because I know there are incredibly talented individuals out there that could easily play many of the characters you see on screen, possibly even better. I've gone to improv classes where after weeks of training, the ones that get promoted to the advanced group just "happen" to be all white, which were the moments where I was left completely jarred because I knew there were people that were way funnier, had better timing, and overall more talented; but "happened" to be Indian, or Asian. What's funny is that even I as a writer who's written multiple screenplays, when envisioning my characters during my writing of their dialogue, in my head they're white. And in no way am I thinking that intentionally. Which is ridiculous seeing how their traits, backgrounds, views, or anything else don't say anything about their ethnicity, so why can't they be any other colour? Every major T.V show seems that they always have a "quota" for minorities. To quote Aziz Ansari - "It's like you can have one black person, or two, but not three otherwise it becomes a "black show." You can have one Asian person, but not two. If you go over three, then it becomes a immigrant lifestyle project." It's not about whether the coloured person/female "fits" the story of the movie or game, because almost always, they do, but I feel many times creators are unaware that they do. I really apologize for this fucking essay. I know this doesn't belong in the abyss of what is the UA-cam comments section; but I just wanted to share my thoughts. But do of this what you will. Keep doing what you're doing, because I love hearing your thoughts.
I'm so thankful that this topic has FINALLY been talked about, but more so than that, I'm thankful that you guys are so down to earth and measured in your ideas.
Sorry Colin, your party doesn't get to say and do the things they do and not get called out for it.
Such as?
+Peter Thorpe He doesn't want to be called epithets for the group he identifies with. Then he shouldn't identify with said group. This is the peril of group identity that comes when you sign up.
***** The fact is the group members represent the group. This means you take on the positive and negative aspects of the identity. Colin speaks in terms of Republicans and Democrats all the time in positive and negative ways.
+Peter Thorpe Colin speaks in terms of Republicans and Democrats or liberals and conservatives without referring to their stances on policies all the time. That's what I'm saying. It's not scientific, but it's how we use language.
It's infuriating watching Colin go on a rant and the three stooges just sit on their hands with their thumbs up the asses. Come on guys, if Colin goes off on politics, stand up and have a little back and forth.
I just listened to one-half of an argument. That was real fun and interesting. /s
+Michael Gibbons Well, that's the thing. He's not doing this to have a discussion. He's doing it to stroke his hurt ego. He can't handle being on the wrong side of history.
I agree that the others don't speak up enough on some of Colin's topics now and then, but this doesn't have to be a debate in the strictest sense. This is their podcast and they have the views they have and have every right to express them on their own podcast, and it being their podcast, they don't need to have opposing opinion because it's just them saying what they think, and if they happen to think similarly then that's perfectly fine in this context. Sometimes they do differently here and there and when that happens I can't think of a single time where that difference or nuance of individual opinion wasn't brought up, so I'd say they do fine as it is.
+Michael Gibbons Greg repeatedly told Colin that reductive behavior happens on both sides and Colin angrily insisted that his tribe was the primary victim.
Jake Zielsdorf
Exactly. The other three either don't say anything at all, or roll over to Colin. I get that this isn't a debate show, but have a conversation. Colin's rants are sometimes thought provoking, but when the other three just sit there, Colin starts to repeat himself. He starts beating a dread horse. And starts saying things that are straight up bullshit.
Michael Gibbons It's just Colin gets so belligerent. He browbeats them. I commend Greg for telling Colin the truth, that this behavior happens on both sides, but you could tell that didn't faze Colin. His victim complex is too ingrained.
Colin should be in politics
i doubt it, San Francisco is the most liberal city in America, by most people's estimations. A social moderate and fiscal conservative like Colin would get ripped apart, and Im sure he knows it
Colin, just because there are black and hispanic republican presidential candidates doesen't mean the Republican party is imbued with true liberal ideals. Most Republican candidates have extremly conservative social views. It's interesting to hear your personal argument in support of these specific neo conservatives, the juxtaposition of their political agenda with yours is simply extremely contradictory.
I am a patriot, a liberal and a socialist, and I love nothing more than hearing Colin take down polarized political bigots of any kind. Only through understanding the other side can we be confident in our own beliefs.
I hope to sit down with Colin someday because I'm sure as reasonable people we could agree on a number of issues, regardless of our different political ideologies. Keep it coming Colin.
I agreed with Colin on the issue of political correctedness, but I disagree with Colin here. While his passion is admired, he seems to be much more agitated by people making conservatives into a caricature than he is about WHY people make republicans into a caricature.
Being conservative is NOT brave. Social conservatism often comes from a fear of change in social status that would decrease the power a certain group has over others. Colin complained that people mention 'the war on women' but he neglected to mention that Conservatives are the ones who use that phase most often by describing things like 'the war on Christmas' or 'the war on Christians'. There is a reason why people like Donald Trump and Ben Carson are leading the Republican polls...those people are the majority of Republican voters.
Colin, the Republicans and Democrats are lost. Join us moderates so that we can form a 3rd party to reduce the swing of US politics.
As far as "fear of change" goes, I find that to be more, although not exclusively or entirely the case with seniors and older baby boomers than most Gen X and Y social conservatives. Believe it or not, there are a great many intellectual social conservatives who hold their beliefs on informed principle than irrational fear.
+jamironited4 you raised another excellent point. marriage is none of the government's business. The historical reason marriage licenses bece mandatory was so they could discourage interracial marriage. Seriously. Of course once we give government another source of income they will only relinquish it from its cold dead hands. Homestly, the whole issue is a non issue because the government should have no say in the matter in the first place, not to mention the Constitution doesn't once mention marriage in any way, the SCOTUS was supposed to interpret the constitutionality of gay marriage, and they effectively violated the separation of powers by making it legal for all intents and purposes when it was not their place to do so. Even if you support the idea of gay marriage, if you are a constitutionalist, you have every reason to oppose the ruling ease they breached their powers because gay marriage is being treated like law when only the legislative branch (preferably state legislatures rather than federal) can literally make something legal or illegal. If individual state legislatures made it legal, which is much preferred because it is not a constitutional issue and therefore an issue that defaults to the judgment of the state's and outside the federal jurisdiction, then so be it, but the way this has come about is all wrong.
jamironited4
Marriage is a legal process used to document when consenting adults have agreed to share their property and assets. The government is involved because it serves as a third party to officiate that process. People are not required to marry if they don't want to and they can still live together. Preventing homosexual couples from sharing their possessions in marriage or civil union is a way of suppressing their social activity.
Forcing women to birth children when they are unwilling to care for them is a way of suppressing women from obtaining higher social status and competing at the same level as men. Women are typically viewed as the first responsible party for the welfare of children and are more obligated to stay at home with them and freeze their work life. When a male has children he is not typically obligated to stay at home and care for them, so a male can have multiple children and society doesn't expect the male to sacrifice social mobility to do so (even if child support is granted).
Tyler Worsham The legislature has already made marriage legal. The supreme court just said that marriage should not be restricted to heterosexual couples. The same thing happened when different groups of people challenged restrictions on voting in early US history. Many cases went through courts until legislatures made it clear that voting should not be restricted to socially advantaged groups.
Then who regulates it? The church? Id rather stab by dick with a pen than give the church more power.
And not a single word came out of Tim's mouth that day...
Its funny how you guys are now apart of my morning routine. I listen to you guys more than i listen to my girlfriend in the morning lol. KINDA!
just finished it while getting ready for work. great talk expressing your views on the ignorance this country has developed over the years, colin. So many people in my age group does not care for politics so are out of touch with the policies that are being put into place, or even the presidential race. Makes me so sad that our future is going down this path. It seems so bleak to fix the government.
GO, COLIN, GO! Hahahah, love to hear him rant like this. Mostly because I'm one of the vocal few that agree with him. Republican in a very blue state in college, but definitely not afraid to show it.
Latent Soul Yeah, I mention I'm republican in my college and people already start telling me how ignorant I am before I even elaborate on my beliefs.
Latent Soul For sure man! I'm with you.
I wish someone would argue with Colin and not just let him rant all the time. No one ever challenges him on anything and it makes these podcasts less and less fun to listen to.
I love Colin Moriarty SOOOOO much.
As a republican myself, you literally take my thoughts and feelings on a lot of issues, right out of my head. There are SOOO many Republicans that share your views Colin. You are not alone!
Seriously, thank you.
Colin makes some amazing points here. Colin for president!
gotta vote lol
one of the best episodes yet! thanks for talking about something that your passionate about, and not being ashamed of it.
Colin couldn't possibly talk too much. It is always inspiring to watch a person talk about something they believe in.
There's a monumental irony in Colin's stance. He wants everyone to stop being reductive, but he wants to defend politically incorrect comedy. Most of the reductive shit-throwing in politics is done for laughs.
Can Colin have a political segment on Kinda Funny? Honestly that will make me start supporting on Patreon. A place where Colin can really get into the nitty gritty of politics. Would love episodes like this where he just rants/talks. Obviously if Colin is interested. Maybe like a podcast beyond type thing with Colin? Could be shorter, idk.
Australian here. Before finding Kinda Funny I didn't know anything about Republicans except for the mainstream idea that they are racist bigots. I must say Colin Moriarty has completely changed my view point. Colin your ideas are fantastic and the party would be better if your lead was taken more often. It's awesome to see someone so well spoken as yourself become this passionate. #colinwasright
These conversations... ahh I mean monologs would be much more bearable if Colin would stop presenting himself as a martyr and taking himself so serious.
Amen Collin. I agree with everything you said. Thank you for being real and transparent.
I really respect Colin for being so vocal about his thoughts and points
There's so many things I could say to Colin as a registered Republican myself. But right now? Thank you Colin. Thank you for being someone who I feel like I can point to, to help people understand some of how I think better. And I'm tired of the shit-slinging and being called names as well. So thank you for letting me know i'm not alone because a lot of the times it feels like I am alone in my politics.
Collin just became my favorite person of all time
As a Democrat, I love Colin. I don't always agree with his views, but I respect him for making intelligent points and sticking to his guns. Colin is a very smart man and its not fair to attack him just because you disagree with him. let's take a queue from him and discuss things that we disagree about calmly and intelligently rather than reducing ourselves to base arguments and character assassination. Keep up the great work Kinda Funny crew, we love you.
thanks for the late night upload guys! can't sleep tonight anyways!
Colin I would like to thank you for sticking up for your own political views and what you believe in. As a student that identifies as republican at a university, I 100% feel that I have to keep my mouth shut about political topics in fear of being attacked. It's comforting to know someone feels the same way I do.
I could listen to Colin talk for hours. He is a pretty damn smart human being. I think its interesting how he ended up in his line of work. If I saw him in person and talked to him without any background information I would think he was a lawyer, scientist, or doctor.
Wow.
Colin, I don't know if you'll see this, but I am incredibly impressed and grateful for what you had to say. I have many conservative beliefs and they are constantly under attack from people in the media and in the games industry. People don't seem to understand that a moderate republican exists. They seem to think we are all Fox-news obsessed crazies, or at least that's how I feel. I am sure that there are democrats and atheists who believe that people like me deserve respect even if I have different views than the popular media, just like I believe that they too should be respected.
Hearing you say these things means so much. I was most impressed when you talked about pro-life supporters. I have never heard anyone in the games industry say anything nice about people like myself who believe that a child has the right to live once conceived. I am not against women in any form or fashion, but if you listened to the media you would think I am some monster who thinks women should submit to me, solely because of something between my legs. Nothing could be further from the truth, and hearing you respect people like me even when I have different views means so much.
I don't even know if I have ever commented on a youtube video, but I had to say something about his. This deeply touched me.
Colin, there are sometimes that I think you are ridiculous. The fact that you refuse to play MGS V to make people mad baffles me, but when I hear you say things like this, I just smile. I am thankful that you are here in a liberal media presenting reason. You are very wise, and I am just thankful that you are here defending people like me.
Thank you Colin. Thank you for this video. Thank you for spreading awareness. People listen to you, and I hope that others hear your passion and come to better accept republican and conservative views. I love women. I love the LGBTQ community (and I believe that they should be allowed to marry for the record). I love minorities. I love people.
Thank you Colin.
Colin saying everything that needs to be said. And it's a dangerous thing to do in San Francisco in an industry that has 100% bought into the PC/SJW mindset. Respect
8:46 lmfao at Colin hissing!
lol
I wish more people could be as open minded as Colin. This level of nuance is admirable
As a Hispanic Conservative Republican Colin is speaking from my heart.
I know exactly what he's talking about.
Colin is so cool, I always feel smarter after listening to him talk for more than 5 minutes.
Colin, I know that you may not have meant it to come out this way, but I've been in both a hyper-liberal community and a hyper-conservative community. As such, I know that conservatives are just as viciously reductionist as are liberals.
In high school (a very conservative high school), I was called an idiot for understanding the science behind climate change, a racist for bringing up race problems in the justice system (keep in mind, I never said all cops are racist, I just used FBI crime statistics to point out potential problems with the justice system), and a freak for thinking that homosexuality, bisexuality and all gender identities should be respected. This reductionist mentality is a byproduct of being in a community that is saturated with your own political views. I can respect your ability to stick to your beliefs, but still be open to evolving with new information, because I was in that exact same situation.
Honestly there are a lot of questionable data and ideas about climate change and the whole argument of it. Tthere is obviously a lot of bias in the scientific community and silencing of dissent, which is unbelievably unscientific. I would recommend that you study both sides of this issue. That said, you make an excellent point, a lot of this unrelenting trash talk is most often prevent where there exists an echo chamber in a group or community. Colin did actually say that all sides are guilty, although probably for some different reasons, and it is prominent to varying degrees depending on where you live as you said, but to Colin's point, I think it is undeniable that nationally overall, certain parts of society is undeniably a progressive dominated echo chamber. The fact Trump is seriously being considered a legitimate presidential candidate, as scary as that is, is prove enough of the universality of what Colin was saying. What you are addressing is more regionally, about which you aren't wrong, but Colin is talking nationally overall and progressives undeniably are much more beige rent and loud spoken in society. Most crap conservatives and Republicans give is no less real, but it is largely reationary.
I like that I can come to this channel to hear about dumb stuff and smart stuff, often times in the same video
Great Video!! I love hearing Colin talk, really smart guy.
As a European I have to say that American Republicans are usually depicted as racist fools over here. I'm glad you're here to show us otherwise Colin. You're awesome for teaching people like me new things and show us a different side of your political party. It's something I appreciate a lot. Much respect! Also: it's only tuesday, but so far the GoG-show, Gamescast and PS I LOVE YOU XOXO each had their best episodes yet! Fantastic job guys! #ColinForPresident
Edit: It appears it's wednesday... I need to get a life.
Like how Colin says he doesn't want people to project things on other people but respects a guy who projects his beliefs into his policy.
I agree with Colin about discussing the issues without insulting each other however, he seems to be implying that only the left has been providing the insults. The Republicans spent years calling Obama a Muslim socialist from Kenya.
At the beginning: YES, YES, YES!! I definitely stand with Colin. Both left and right extremes are unbearable but we are currently in a situation where the extreme left gets more of a free pass with the mainstream because of their popular views. People don't seem to realize that if this rejection of opposing viewpoints continues we could end up seeing a future generation that becomes extremely liberal to an Orwellian extent or a future generation that rebels and adopts the opposing extreme ideals, basically continuing the never-ending cycle.
This episode either didn't age well, or aged PERFECTLY
When people say "Republican" they almost certainly are not referring to people who have the opinions that Colin have.
I really hope half the patreon money is going towards Colin's presidential campaign
I am just waiting for him to start throwing chairs hahaha.... LOVE IT!!!
Thank you Colin, I appreciate what you're saying. I'm a black conservative, and receive crap all the time from friends and family. being told "umm your black, you're supposed to be a democrat", or they're just plain ignorant and hateful and call me an uncle tom.
Colin's passion has unlocked my gayness.
This can be summed up very easily
#ColinIsRight
#Colin4president
Colin is the perfect representation of what a modern republican voter is.
Thank you for breaking down these generalizations and pointing out that the brush is just as broad for both painters.
Colin, you created the way I think about politics. Before listening to you guys I was just a dumb kid without a political stance.
See this is proof we need a conversation with Colin!
You are painting huge generalizations and then complaining about them. HYPOCRITE
+Javier Ramos What are you talking about? Seriously.
tb0ne90 I would completely agree with Colin had he not continuously acted like Republicans are the only people who get names called at them or painted with huge generalizations.
The past few months alone I've been called a baby killer, a racist ironically, a socialist among many other things because I'm liberal. For someone who seemed to think name calling sucks he only focused on the 'oppressed' Republicans.
He clearly said that it happens on both sides and that it needs to stop on both sides. He mentioned his own personal experiences as a republican. That's all.
He berated people on the left and then threw in the little 'it happens on both sides' caveat. He knows exactly what people say about people on the left yet he didn't bring up those arguments. His bias showed hard.
Dan k Colin is a very smart man, but he has a clear bias.
There's a lot of stuff I don't agree with Colin with, but he's so up-front and isn't scared of having the unpopular opinion that it makes me greatly respect him. Keep talking.
You came out of the gate swinging, I fuckin' respect that.
"I get offended easily but I don't project it!"
*projects"
Damn I love when Colin rants. Love listening to him. You guys should really consider another show for Colin.
Im Irish and i have no clue what Colin is talking about but ive never been so entertained in my life. Great viewing
Every day I get more and more convinced that Colin would be a fucking awesome president
I have a ton of respect for Colin and much of what he said in this episode has resonated with me. I totally agree there are times when people take how offended they are way too far and fail to look at the situation and context things are said in.
Full disclosure I am black and I can't tell you how many hideously offensive things that have been said to me about my race and I've let them roll off my back. Its hard to say and hear but people have the right to believe in what they believe in unfortunately, even if its racist, sexist, or bigoted.
Its up to us as individuals to listen and respectfully disengage and disagree with people's world views that don't match ours. How are we supposed to honestly learn anything if we are constantly surrounded by people who share are same beliefs and don't challenge are comfort zones.
I'm happy the guys stuck with him on this topic and saw how much this voicing his truth meant to him.
I felt Colin was blowing his own pipe for most of this video. Ok we understand people have stereotypical views of republicans, but claiming your wiser than these stereotypes doesn't amount to much . There's plenty of people who have similar views but don't strongly link themselves to the Republican party. Therefore if you are strongly claiming to be a Republican prepare for the baggage that comes with it.
If there were more people like Colin the world would be a better place
I think you seriously underestimate the pervasiveness of racism, sexism, and general bigotry in this country.
these things are true and won't be solved exclusively by the left.
Colin with the truth-bombs, it is so refreshing to hear a guy who actually knows what the fuck he is talking about.
Colin, you are the man.
I know most Kinda Funny fans wouldn't enjoy this, but I would pay serious money on Patreon to fund a politics show hosted by Colin.
The only "Kinda Funny" thing about this video is how loud Colin can get.
Thank you Colin. Your passion is inspirational.
This was my favorite topic yet
And rants like this really illustrate my problem with Colin Moriarty. While his passion is admirable, I cannot help but poke holes in a lot of what he's arguing. He complains about people labeling him as anti-gay, anti-poor, and anti-woman, yet still continues to align himself with the Republican party. He throws out a lot of the usual stuff you'll hear from the far right in in this video as well, from "Political correctness is killing comedy" to claiming that the left only want diversity for the sake of it, (which he dismisses as "comical"), as well as using a generally sarcastic tone when discussing society's war on women. In aligning himself with the right and holding these opinions, he himself is doing the very thing he claims the left to be doing.
Colin, maybe instead of getting upset when people paint you as a caricature, maybe take a moment to understand WHY people are painting you as a caricature. Think about the people you have chosen to align yourself with and if they truly represent what you, at your core, believe in. And I said the same thing with the GamerGate movement. You cannot divorce a movement from it's catalyst, and you cannot divorce a political party from the values that it was created to support, because they are intrinsically linked.
+Bradford Pellerin (Nightrain1031) I find this response comical. Because you are so quick to judge. So quick to make claims, labels, insinuations, assumptions, etc. Did you even listen to the guy? Judging from your response, I have to think you are a person who believes in change. Well...take a look at the Democratic party. As Colin mentioned.....it went from pro-slavery, pro-war, pro-segregation to what it is today. Infact, one could argue the two parties in this country switched sides at some point in history, at least on social values. I just find it interesting that so many on the left....so many people like yourself....are always pushing your agenda for more openness, more inclusiveness, more tolerance, etc.....yet when you meet someone who doesn't agree with you on EVERYTHING, you immediately think the worst. You pin them in a corner. Stereotype then. Pigeon hole them immediately, without a second thought. Is it really fair to paint all Republicans with such a broad brush because all you see are the loud obnoxious ones on TV or in the papers? Does that mean all of us are bigots, racists, sexists, etc? The left (and rightfully so) is infuriated when people are stereotyped or profiled. What if we are trying to change the party? Which YES, even happened to the party you most likely support? Does that make us neo-conservative, religious zealots? I find it fascinating, because normally the people on the left despise this type of thinking. You'd never call all muslims terrorists because a few psychopaths bombed a synagogue or because ISIS exists. So let's not lump in all Republicans as anti-gay, anti-poor, and anti-women, racist, bigots because the some assholes at the helm of the Republican party are currently making the most noise. Most of us are good people. Sure, there are bad apples out there. And it's a shame that is all we hear about these days in the press. But change can, and WILL come from within. It has in the past, and it will again.
Colin, you won't play Metal Gear, which still don't understand, but I admire your passion for everything else!
Agree with Colin 100%. As a society we need to stop calling people names, stop discriminating and dismissing people who don't share the same principles. I like having discussions with people of conviction when those arguments can be reasoned and fact based. Passion is great, but don't get stuck in an echo chamber where the only way to respond to the other side is to yell louder. Even worse is to go about your daily life and silently judge and discriminate just because someone thinks differently.
Colin is a good dude. Backed hard.
Hey guys! Thanks for diving head on to important topics and not being afraid to speak your mind! I appreciate all of your comments Colin. Just wanted to point out that classifying people as "climate deniers" isn't reductive like the other things you mentioned. People are entitled to opinion on different subjects and shouldn't be defined by those things, but denying climate change is ignoring scientific facts, not just merely an opinion.
Keep up the great work!
I love you, Colin.
Haven't watched this yet but I clicked like just for the thumbnail.
Two things:
1. Not everyone is like you Colin.
2. The people who are saying dumb things are the ones in power.
And that's the problem. If everyone was like you Colin, we could get shit done, but they're not. And the people who's opinion you're defending (even if you don't agree with them) are the ones that are making the laws and trying to "run" this country.
So Colin, is a woman who opposed suffrage not anti-woman (aka anti-women's rights which is what everyone means when they say that)?
Let's move on from the idea that someone in a group can't hold prejudiced ideas about that group. It's untrue and has been proven wrong repeatedly.
just cause a women disagrees doesn't mean she's a sexist. this is not a black and white issue, but one filled with multiple shades of gray. and that's the problem with progressives if your not for X your X. if your not a women that supports feminism your a sexist hypocrite (well no lady I just disagree with you and your tactics). progressive debate is more like agreement conversations complete with trigger warning and thought shaming. people are growing sick of this thought shaming and over offended-ness.
So what would you call a woman who doesn't think women should be president, or head businesses, that they belong in the kitchen, should be subservient to husbands, and that their only role should be to raise kids? A woman who believes this so strongly she votes and acts in a way to force these beliefs on other women?
Would she not be discriminating on the basis of sex? Would she not hold views that actively oppose the promotion of her own sex's rights?
I never said sexist. I said anti-women's rights.
+David Scheuermann where is mythical women who said she doesn't want a women president or women with voting rights. seriously show me a link to this mythical creature. no who sane would say that. with all due respect you seem like a very reasonable and relatable person so I hope you don't discredit yourself by character assassinating me or my opinions. But a women (or guy for that matter) who doesn't agree with a feminist doesn't automatically make her against a women president. Maybe that women presidential candidate isn't competent or/and is a fake smiling politician just like the republicans she ridicules. and to respond to your response about liberal media the main point is that regardless mainstream media is either blantently left (MSNBC, the verge, vox) or slightly leaning more in that leftist direction (ABC, NBC,etc) the left own media. even the transformer movie you mentioned is leftist (progressives still like war just when it fits there narrative). Nolan's film the dark knight even championed wire tapping/cyber spying (that NSA style stuff Hillary will not stop at all and avoids questions on at any turn imaginable). As I said before progressive media is way more far reaching then any other form media (and is far richer as well). I would say I enjoy louder with chowder, Although I would love to check out other forms of media to be more informed. have any suggestions?
wasn't about you. It was a hypothetical to prove a point. A woman can be sexist toward women or actively oppose women's rights. And women with those beliefs do exist. They are not hard to find.
+David Scheuermann i love the "anti-" anything that people use. for every ANTI someone is, they're a PRO something else, obviously. using the ANTI- all the time like that just shows that you look for the negative in people
I dont think anyone says more than one sentence besides Colin on this episode haha.
Colin. You are one of my favorite people. Don't ever change.
I gained a lot of respect for Colin today.
Love you guys, including and especially Colin, but you need a dissenting opinion to him. Colin is at his best when there is someone to challenge him and make him consider his ideas more closely. Greg normally does this, but on political issues I don't think he's comfortable enough to. This really just turned into "Colin rants for an hour" in which he made some decent points but also some deeply troubling things, i.e. defending the 'girlfriend mode' comment or his diatribe on planned parenthood. I get that he faces a lot of opposition because his views, but as a liberal person in a very conservative area, I can tell you that it's the same for me. Again, you guys are great but you need to show both sides if you are going to discuss these issues
Colin is just a rare breed, he does not in any way speak for the republican party, and neither does his circle of republican friends. He sounds more like a libertarian, and everyone knows libertarians aren't crazy people like most conservatives.
Colin is so articulate and well researched. Regardless of how you feel about his opinions you must respect his knowledge, and passion!
Dude, seriously. Why even have this conversation? You don't have anyone even moderately on the other side so all this consisted of was a bunch of straw men arguments based on extreme caricatures. "Get rid of jokes, things that are funny, offensiveness" doesn't seem like a fair representation of what these people argue. You're doing exactly what you're complaining about.
And you can't hold up Lincoln Republicans to apologize for today's Republican party. When the Democrats grab hold of the South again by pandering to certain opinions there then you can make that comparison. The Republican Party made the choice to change and become the party of the South.
I'm an independent and think Colin was right on. progressives have a majority share of media so it would be the Democrats that need to start proven there intentions. just look at Hollywood. want the progressive view look at the million dollar news networks that are mostly left leaning. the only other alternative view point is fox a network that caters to 80 year old white men.
The idea of a "Leftist Media" is a myth that needs to die.
Statistics that say that journalists mostly vote Democrat mean nothing (and mostly promoted by right-wing think tanks or Jonah Goldberg). What matters isn't what they think. What matters is their content they produce.
CNN is not left-leaning unless you view everything relative to Fox News, in which case William F. Buckley or Richard Nixon were left-leaning. I mean, have you ever heard Erin Burnett speak? They're centrist, pro-capitalist, pro-US Foreign Policy just like most the media, and they usually cover content through that lens.
MSNBC actually is left-leaning a bit. Progressive-leaning at least. There's one. But are we then going to discount CBS, ABC, NBC etc who are mostly centrist, pro-capitalist, pro-US Foreign Policy just like most the media?
Then in print, we have WaPo and NYT at the top. If you think either one has a liberal bias, then you're showing your own bias. Both again are centrist, pro-capitalist, pro-US Foreign Policy just like most the media. There's a plethora of evidence out there.
Then if we go to radio, 80% of talk-radio if right wing. Then there's NPR which again is not "left-leaning." They are way more balanced than most.
Left-leaning is Democracy Now.
If you want to check out an actually decent look into bias in the news media and how's it's an institutional problem, check out Manufacturing Consent. The others are garbage.
And Hollywood and film? We're talking about an institution that literally black listed Chaplin for being a socialist. What about films like Zero Dark Thirty or American Sniper? What about the jingoism or militarism found is many war films or even Transformers? Anyone who's paid attention to Nolan knows that he employs many conservative ideas in his films.
Sure there are left-leaning films. But it's much more of a balance than many who are apparently in needs of talking points would admit.
Still don't know what that has to do with the fact that Colin was using straw men to characterize these peoples' arguments.
+David Scheuermann also Charles Chaplin Hollywood is way different then what we currently have. This Hollywood is intent on not hiring people unless there aggressively progressive or less talkive about politics. this has been proven look up Ben Shapiro's research on this. for example I love Steven universe but clearly that shows has tons of progressive undertones STILL is a damn great show regardless.
Is "there are assholes in politics" a strawman?
+David Scheuermann "The liberal media is a myth"
Lul, wut.
Colin I can appreciate where you are coming from on your views but to say you think the left is more vocal than the right when it comes to the name calling I just can't agree with. I live in the deep south and have to hear daily from extremely vocal conservatives both online and in real life. Try living in an area where the majority of people around you still believe gays should not have rights or god forbid one race marries another (dating a black man in my state is grounds for families to disown daughters). I still love you though buddy since we have a huge number of similarities.
It's the same over here for the most part. Asian and Muslim families are very strict about dating within ones race.
I think you will hear more from one side or another online based on where your interests lie. If you want to see the worst of both sides check out the comment section on any yahoo.com political article. Colin's point about hatred between the parties is most visible on there.
im cracking up just on the thumbnail
