    Haters are gonna hate....... i hope you have thick skin to take it...... cuz alot of our people are gonna say they dont agree with a foreigner singing our songs...... i am not one of those people........ but remember those who have a problem with it, are people who are insecure about their own lack of knowledge..... they're ashamed they cant sing these songs or know the stories so they get mad when an outsider learns it............. keep on being you n keep singing regardless what all these people say

    shit this guys sings like a real one lol I kept lookin at tha name and I dint even think that he wuz not a native lol good one, lots of people here (natives) don't even kno their own traditional ways or even language, especially in tha east, my people were originally from tha ohio river valley but from warfare with whites and other tribes we now live in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and northern Mexico. many of tha northern tribes from Wisconsin Minnesota and tha northeast got to keep their homelands because they gave up fighting, people like mine were hunted because we dint turn over and surrender and we suffered for it but today we have most of our traditional ways and language. tha most traditional r tha Kickapoos in northern mexico because they never had to go to tha boarding schools and were never made to convert where as us Kickapoo in tha states had to go through all that but we still resisted. to me I think that it is wrong when others try to learn our traditional songs and our ways but if its jus powwow songs then go on ahead because there is nothing spiritual about powwows u kno, but a lot of natives try to make it spiritual but it shouldn't be that way because powwows r all about making money and for show, real ceremonies aren't put out there and commercialized or to put out there for outsiders to see unless they r invited to be there and participate which is ok usually if they r any kind of native but not white black Asian or any other. but that is some pretty good singing though lol I thought u were a native American lol maybe in a past life

    • @KickapooNinja
      @KickapooNinja 9 років тому

      I still like to listen to it lol I like to listen to a lot of other natives music, my people and these Iroquois people used to be neighbors and enemies but u can see in our music styles that we all came from tha same general region as with most other natives that lived in tha great lakes area, tha beat to our music and tha tunes r pretty damn similar even tho we r not even related to tha Iroquois, I like to listen to their stick game songs

      Many thanks for the support. I didn't know this about the Kickapoo in Mexico. Valuable info for me. So you belong to the Kickapoo nation. I have deep respect for your people - great fighters - as also towards the other Ohio nations - Shawnee, Ottawa, Miami, Lenape.
      Kickapoo are very related with the Shawnees, am i right?
      I have always wondered how so may different nations live under one roof in Oklahoma. Are you all on good terms with each other.
      I thought that much is lost among these nations in respect of traditions. Good to hear that it is not the case with he Kickapoo.

    • @KickapooNinja
      @KickapooNinja 9 років тому +1

      yep tha Shawnee, Miami, sauk and meskwaki tribes r all very related in both traditional ways and language. not so much tha modern Miami but tha language is still related. tha Lenape r actually tha grandfather tribe to all Algonquian tribes and traditionally we called them grandfathers. for tha most part all tha tribes get along but there is still old tensions lol but its all good. one thing u will not find a whole lot on is tha ways and traditions of tha Kickapoo online. u should message me on my youtube name its KIIKAAPOA

      Hi there. As far as i know many of the social songs are based on rhythm, melody and typical for each community and language syllables, that's it to say no words with actual meaning are always used in the songs. It is more about the mood and spirits they arouse with the melody and sound. and of course when it is combined with a particular dance which is more like a game - you get a real socializing element.
      As for how i learnt it - I have been researching the iroquois nations for years as a personal passion. it started when I was a teenager and saw the painting of Robert Griffing. You should check him out: www.lordnelsons.com/gallery/frontier/griffing/main.htm
      Then I read some Iroquois legends and this is how the falling in love started. Ever since I have been trying to learn and research more the Iroquois culture and history. One of my main interest is music and dance. So before there was something on UA-cam, or before UA-cam as a whole, I would order cassettes of Iroquois social dances and listen to them. Then CDs' and so on
      Have a beautiful and blessed year

    • @ostoserikeron
      @ostoserikeron  10 років тому +3

      She:kon
      Not everything is cultural appropriation when we look from the perspective that the Iroquois have had a policy for adopting non-natives since ages. I agree that misappropriation and misaprehension is when models put on warrior headdresses, museums take important sacred relics or New age writers use traditional cultures and adapt them to their purposes and views. This is worth fighting against. And our aim here is to let people know more about the damage of building stereotypes and twisting the real picture.
      I have been researching the Haudenoshaunee people since i was teenager. I am part of Bulgarian-Indian society - a band that has been putting many efforts to present in authentic way the big variety of nations in N.America with its own characteristic - we lead lectures, seminars, cultural events on different cultural and historical topics, work on the popularization of lacrosse in Bulgaria, have traditional camps together, learn songs and keep on with the researching work.

      Bulgarian - indian scoiety. that is the very essence of cultural appropriation, where as I am Haudenosaunee, you cant be indian. "indian is a race". we are a race of people . as for adopting out side it isnt done any more. cause too many whites would come along then steal our knowledge. our spirituality isnt a religion. our spirituality is community and nation based. we hear europeans say we are the rightful people of the land. but no european write their governments to stop the oppression of our peoples. makes us natives wonder if it is all just bs. for the fact that if the opression stop then we dont fit the stoic oppressed stereo type. making lacrosse popular , you making it popular is cultural appropriation. I dont think you understand what you are doing is cultural appropriation. which it is. and I am also taking this from an academic stand point out of the U of T. it is nice to be curious about things. but to take it on like this. would be like the ottomans breaking in to your country messing around. then taking your bulgarian culture then saying. we will claim all that is your essence . all that is your being. is ours ... cause that is what our culture is , that is what our spirituality is. it is what we have left. it isnt a religion. you never had to live the oppression we have had. you will never understand, it is nice to wear it etc. but never had to be at the hands of racism . we still live under the indian act in canada. which is where the south african aparthied came from. similar acts and laws are still used in usa.

    • @ostoserikeron
      @ostoserikeron  10 років тому +2

      AboriginalSoul It is good that not all native people think like this. There are others among your people who know that by pointing us with fingers and putting labels on all Europeans (like wannabes, plastic indians and so on) just like you hate being labeled, doesn’t work at all and doesn’t prevent us from studying the historical books, learning the songs and dances and the craftwork of native cultures especially when there is plenty of information in this globalised world. Indeed many Europeans now are better craftworkers and in some fields more knowledgeable on native life as it used to be than many natives themselves.
      The point is that there are native who encourage what we do as long we show respect and good attitude - and not make/do things we are not initiated for...i also can't accept that there are people who would even think of making a False face mask for the sake of craft or sing sacred songs of the Grand medicine society. It is a cultural offense and misappropriation.
      I don’t agree that adoption is not done among the Haudenosaunee. There are many europeans who have been welcomed in reservations, who have spent some time there and been adopted. I know quite many examples. I know a German guy who was invited to sing with the Old Mush singers; I know others who were invited to pow wows and Thanksgiving ceremonies. So it depends on the attitude each person gives and the trust he is granted by native.
      I don’t see what is the problem with making lacrosse popular in Bulgaria. I see that there are many Iroquois who support the fact that we have a lacross federation now and are eager to collaborate and come to Bulgaria and share experience. We hope Oren lyons himself manage to come one day. Lacrosse is a sacred game to the Iroquios and if there weren’t people among us who present the traditional views about it, most people would never know that it is traditional native game - the popular view is that is “new inveted by the whites sport”.
      As for the Ottomans and Bulgarians - the example is not relevant. Bulgarian culture is exactly a mixture, a synthesis of turkish, slavic, greek and native. The same with other Balkan nations. Our cusine and language has plenty of turkish influence as it is with architecture and folklore. This is now part of our heritage and what makes us attractive to the world. It was assimilated and integrated. Never a matter of stealing and taking. All cultures that interact with each other eventually end up with new shape and image.
      And in the end, i would singing social songs of the Iroquois is not cultural appropriation. It is a tribute to your culture. Everywhere I have traveled people encourage you and show their joy to hear that you have made an effort to learn some of their native tongue, to know about their traditions, to show interest in their songs and heritage. Everywhere this is accpted with joy. But only natives live in constant fear of being appropriated and stolen.
      It is also as relevant to say that those natives what watch TV and drive cars, live in modern houses, wear jackets, play baseball, speak English are doing cultural appropriation.

      one . what I said to you is how natives think. yes we do encourage cultural understanding. but to take on our culture as ones own we dont accept. and those people who are european said they were adopted in . that is a lie. we dont do it. it isnt done any more. our ceremonies are specifically for us, you are dealing with things you dont understand when or if you do our ceremonies and anything you read in books about us, isnt the entire culture. cause there is a whole lot that isnt told in books. and we dont share with others ever.. yes like I said learning of a and being curious. is ok but to take it on as ones own culture is cultural theaft. you can roll it anyway you want. it is still cultural theaft. and the things you saying of natives oh get to watch tv living in modern times. you dont get it. you want to throw that up as to say. see they live in modern times so it is ok , to do cultural theaft. do you understand why we are on reservations. do understand why we live as we do. here is the reason..these things were forced on us. by whom. who came to our shores? who did genocide and still continue to do it to native people? was it asian? no it wasnt . was it africans? no it wasnt. was it arabis? no it wasnt. you know well who it was. and starting a bulgatrian indian band. is playing " Indian" and you going in to schools talking about us. instead of an elder from us specifically from us. that means you are steal our voice , by speaking for us and not letting us speak for ourselves.
      The thing is you are angrry with me cause you want to have our culture . you dont like being told it isnt yours. you want it cause you feel entitlement to it. and what you said to me. was your way of talking down to me. treating me like lesser trying to make me into a subordinate. like putting your foot on my neck saying "stay down" I want everything about you I will take what I want and you will like it. dont think I dont know what you are doing and how you think. the modern times was forced on us. and further more. you want to throw up modern stuff. no one lives like back then. europeans dont wear big white wigs and buckled shoes. we as native peoples were forced kicking and screaming into things forced on us such being modern things. so any way you want to put it . cultural appropration is theft. and theft is theft.

    • @ostoserikeron
      @ostoserikeron  10 років тому +3

      AboriginalSoul Yes, yes… all Europeans are liers, plus colonizers, racist and thieves and all natives are innocent victims of their outrage and frenzy. You people have been suffering from racism so long that now carry it it with yourself. This is to see the world only in black and white, new stereotypes many choose to be a slave of. Europe is not only British, French and Dutch. Bulgaria has never colonized you and has never ever treated bad any Indian. But still we are in the melting pot. You want us to distinguish between Anishinabe, Leni Lenape and Anitsalagi but you never make difference between countires in Europe. Bulgaria has been 500 years under Ottoman authority and 200 under Greek but we have overcome it. Should we hate the contemporary Turkish and Greek for the deeds of their forefahters - no point of it. Instead we go on our path realizing we fell because we were weak at that time. We know well what is to be a victim. When I see photos and videos from the reservations of the Northeast coast, I can assure you that in many respects you live better than the average Bulgarian. We are the poorest country in Europe forced to make a living with 550-600 dollars per month (retired people get 150-200 dollars) while the prices are like these in England or France. People burn themselves in front of the parliament from despair. Yes, there is also genocide going on here. Believe me, Europe is not France, Germany and England.
      You see me singing Rotinonnshoni social songs, how does this mean that I am playing Indian and making ceremonies with other Bulgarians? Where comes this accusation from? If I were a hobbyst I wouldn’t bother myself to learn the limits of what I can and can’t do. I would make no difference between singing sacred medicine songs and social songs, I wouldn’t be ashamed to use my Gustoweh together with weapons as there are other who does it and participate in reenactments fighting with gustowe which is absurd! If I were a hobbyst I wouldn’t feel ashamed to even put horns to it so that I be a chief. I would craft False Face masks and copy whatever I want. There are people who do this, but here we don’t accept it.
      And another thing - if “no” was the universal position of all native people I guess the situation would be much different. But as I said we have many friends among the First Nations who give us support. Some of us have stayed with the Yellow Tail clan of the Crow, others have been with Crow Dog from Lakota or the Yellow Horn’s. There are few native who have come to Bulgaria as well and whenever possible (because it is a matter of finanical resources) we invite them to come and share their voice. So it is again not about stealing your voice. But we can't afford to invite people from US and Canada so often. Some time ago Mohawk chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton came and we sang him the Alligator song which made him so proud that he stood up on his feet. Then a Seneca pot maker Peter Standing Board came for the American Indian Heritage month and we performed songs and dances in front of him. Made a friendhsip with him. There are other Rotinnonshoni friends I have been in touch though the years and I hope I will meet them one day on Turtle Island - Sakoieta, Darren Bonaparte, Taiaiake, Kay Olan from the Tom Porter community.
      I will always remember two important for me things. One is what the Tuscarora Billy Miles says 'Being Indian does not necessarily mean having 'red skin', but rather a particular way of thinking!'
      The other are the words of Oren LYons. One of the big truths he follows in life is that "Everything is about having good attitude" No other mysteries and powers are bigger than this.
      I try to cultivate this good attitude and particular way of thinking so that I be a good human being and survive in a money-driven, greedy society shattered by lack of real values, economical crisis and political affairs. I want to cultivate it so that I teach my child one day how to be thankful for all that is given to him with every new dawn, how to walk gently on Earth and protect her. To know about the people across the ocean and their trials and ordeals and the stories of the SKy Woman and the Twins, the Peacemaker and the Little People. You can't keep these stories for yourself only when other people find beauty and power in them. The more you squeeze the sand in you hand, the more it leaks out.

      Jordan Martin. I believe for someone not of any of the original to promote our voice and appearance only shows the growth of the white roots of peace. onkwehonwe isn't a way of skin color, but a way of being. if we discourage anyone from relating to peace and our culture than we have been desolved as a confederacy. our culture is about bringing people together, through peace power and rightiousness. if he finds truth, than why mislead him by showing we are contradictory to who we are by misleading him. be positive.

      Yes. Same as A jew or any other tribe that promotes life and not death. Positive thinking can only uplift those that choose to hear it. Ignorance is that witch binds us to further states of suffering. When we choose to not recognize our faults as individuals do we perpetuate the great illusion of who we are as I ndividual

      @@JeremyJones-pg1hg wow that are some nice words! Thank you for accept him as he is. I know of a Lakota living in Germany for years to learn German language/culture for example which is fully accepted, he is not seen as a german wannabe. When he is speakin or writing German peoples say yeah good job. I never write or speak Lakota cause i feel this wannabe kind of judgement. It, s okay and accepted that as part of my learning path. To understand the sacred truth, you have to be honest to the bone and walk trough a lot of darkness, pain and sadness. Therefore it can be hard and lonely when you feel deeply connected to inspecial N/a cultures i think when you are sincere its more difficult to relate with concerning all mistrust, injustice and the cultural appropriation which is still goin on. And yes i do fully understand that. I feel also shamed when i see all those white rich newage people who want to fill up there cup of spiritual ego and happinezz by buying a healing weekend from another white plastic shaman and grab a piece out of a sacred cerenomy without having any sense of respect for the history, protocolls, culture and people which the ceremony belongs to. Luckely there are more and more' authentic specific sacred and cultural elements' protected by law to prevent fraud and exploitation. This young man is different. He cares deeply not only for your sacred bowl not for a weekend.. but his life long..Iam white living in Netherlands and the more i learned, the further i walked the red road, the more i learned to be silence. And its all good. Hahaha have to be honest in many years this is the first 'non native' who is not givin me the yikes😬 by interpreting something out of n/a culture. He knows were he is talking and singing about. Thats a long path of learning. Maybe more important,he understands the meaning and soul between the words. To know a song and be brave enough to sing it. Respect. Wish you all many blessings on the good road.🐦
