      In my first sketches of the system it was “crap tier”, but I decided that it’s too offensive and that I don’t really oppose super soft sci-fi that badly 😅

    My best candidate for a general purpose Immortalium, or possibly even mutatium, are either nanobots, or some kind of genetically engineered symbiote that are programmed to maintain our bodies, and keep us alive. For example: the WAU in Soma, though it didn't really work as intended there.

    4:46 also we can't make nearly enough antimatter for it to ever be useful as a fuel source. even if we could, the amount of energy going into produce it would be not worth the amount of energy you get from annihilating it. I believe the issues of storage could be solved, the main problem seems to be getting enough of the stuff

    I have incredible respect for this detailed examination of sci-fi tropes and their implications in real life, that occasionally illustrates points using clips from campy anime like Cells at Work and supposedly-kid's-shows like Infinity Train. X D

    Id like to know what type of unobtanium is fairy dust from the movies of “peter pan” as it seems to be useful as a transportatium due to its levitation properties but also others added across the next movies. It seems to also work as psionium due to its mental requirement of “happy thoughts” as well as healthium in the movie “pan” since it’s used to rejuvenate people and might be what causes the lack of ageing in that land. It also seems to be capable of creating varieties for other magical effects such as the manipulation of fauna and flora, air and light, inventiveness and water. I don’t know which ones those would be, perhaps some type of handwavium or mutatium to a degree.

    • @HardCoreSciFi
      @HardCoreSciFi  9 місяців тому

      Well first of all fairy dust does not even pretend to have a scientific explanation, which excludes it from unobtainiums 🤔 but if we look at it functionally, I’d call it antigravity-levitating transportalium type

    16:13 ok, bud hold it right there. "Moore's law has generaly proven to be true so far, and it might aswell keep working in the future" moore's law is not a scientific law, it was an observation and worked moreso as encouragment for companies to keep up the development.
    it very much will not holdup for the forseeable future because unlike when you said "moore's law states thatthe amount of mechanical neurons (whatever that means) in our computers doubles roughly around every two years " it is actualy the amount of amount of transistors that tends to grow, and since transistors have a phisical size and we want computer chips to be as small as posible the only viable option is to make transistors smaller.
    but here we run into a problem because as of 2013 transistors were like 50 cilica atoms across, we cannot shrink them forever. very soon transistors will be small enough for electrons to quantum jump the energy gap needed to store data.
    so in the persuit of finding digitronium, or in other words to extend moores law we need to completely rethink the computer chip, probably as some chrystaline structure that utelizes 3d space far moore then a flat aray of traditional transistors.

    • @HardCoreSciFi
      @HardCoreSciFi  2 місяці тому +1

      Neurons are neural cells, I used them as a rough analogy for computer brains. And it’s certainly true that Moore’s law is slowing down recently. But while it’s maybe not doubling, the progress still goes on, and well then there are quantum computers which will maybe solve the issue in future

  • @farmlife4533
    @farmlife4533 2 місяці тому

    There could be technology that changes what the brain is capable of but I don’t know if a computer chip would count as an unobtainium sense it’s a technology

    I am quite happy your most recent video about the different earth types and their rankings was suggested by UA-cam. Your channel is interesting, the production quality is awesome, your scripts are well very written and clearly thought out, and even though it's clear by your accent that English isn't your first language but you speak it very well and are easy to understand. I look forward to seeing your progression to a world famous UA-camr!!!

    Faster than light I'd put a bit higher on a technicality - we have theories for exotic-matterless wormholes just the energy requirements are very extreme. Another technicality I'd put for it is due to time dilation, traveling near light speed is as fast as you need to go from the perspective of the space ship to get anywhere in any amount of time. For observers it takes a ton of time sure, but since we mostly see the perspective of the ship itself only, (a surprising amount of stories don't ever revisit locations) a lot of fiction that has faster than light travel implied could actually be near light speed travel :P

    • @HardCoreSciFi

      Well due to the nature of this channel, I will sooner or later do a special video on faster-than-light and time travel, and I would sure expand that topic there 😀
