A very interesting play. It paints the picture of upper classes, public school, jolly rotters, university, officer material, champagne and “ones place in the world .” ......but not “one size fits all”, and one chap, carries with him the memory of discipline from a severe mad Major of a father. His pretence, to be what is expected, eventually evaporates. Excellent actors. Very many thanks . Eric Fry Australia
Really enjoyed this story listened while walking the dog it’s a story of person who doesn’t live in reality and really you end up feeling so sorry for them.
It seems to be a study in bipolar disorder. These old time radio shows are fascinating to me as historical artifacts and the amazing creativity on display.
This was how I grew up....my mother was a narcissist & I was subjected to her cerbal abuse almost every day. At 53 I have decided to go for therapy for the first time in my life (after she passed away. )
Unbearable sociopathic father probably suffering from post war trauma? Had to stop listening when the horrible father wasnt 'removed' in the first five mins!

Found that to be fascinating in many respects.
Very good. I'll be looking into Nigel Balchin's work on the strength of this.
He's almost forgotten today but
well worth re-discovering. Rather
like John Wyndham ?

What an earth was the general doing with the cream to cause all that screaming at 8:50.
History is repeating itself. Thank your for your time
A moving story
Very depressing. I cringed as I heard the father talk to his wife and son.
A big bully
8 minutes in and I can't listen to this cruelty....cruelty to anyone, but especially not a child.
Yes it was horrible. Turned out the man had some sort of dementia.
@@angel22893 Thanks. I'm glad I opted out early.

I'm so sorry. I truly hope the best for you. ❤
Wish I knew how the story ended...!
What that noise ?
Sounded like an aquarium was in the room with me, but apart from that I did enjoy this!
So clearly, the 'general' has PTSD after the great war. And his toxicity has spread through the whole family.

The author might at least have said that Jason was at a real Cambridge college - St.Mark's doesn't exist.
As soon as that awful boorish man started, I switched off
