    I put a few peeled, boiled eggs in my leftover pickle juice in the fridge, after a couple of days they are yummy and we eat them with our supper. Sweet or dill juice works, whatever your taste preferences. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You, Mrs. Volfie and Katzcraddle are some of my favs and I have learned so much from all of you.

    Hey Lady, Just picked my first couple of boston picklers off the vine this week. Should have enough for my first batch in the next week or so. I've only done refrigerator pickles so far. Gonna try this method this year. Yours look delicious!

    You could use some of that pickle juice to make some yummy dressing for salads. You could make on3 that kind of taste like Catalina or French. I use to make a sweet pickle when was a teenager that took a week to brine in a crock. You'd drain the brine, boil it every day, let it cool, and pour it back on the pickle slices. Huge pain, but exceptionally delicious. Don't know what ever happened to the recipe, but I'd love to have it again.

    @gogogardener I had a crappy harvest and I had 6 plants and did both a batch of sweet and dill. So if you have better weather than our drought and heat here in Texas less plants will do just make sure they are pickling cucs. Blessings!

    @skybirdbird Pickle crisp is calcium chloride and alum is potassium aluminium sulfate. I hear it works better for refrigerated pickles but not much better than cutting the blossom end off in processed pickles. I wouldn't waste my money the next time. Blessings

    @BexarPrepper Thanks. I have trouble growing cucumbers here, so I'll plant extra. It's one of those plants the bugs attack and can't thrive. I'll try worm castings this year to see if that helps keep the white flies away. I refuse to give in, and will keep trying new things until I get a good crop. I'm in the low desert and water is always an issue here too. Compost in the soil + an inch blanket over established plants helps alot. God bless ya, and thanks for sharing your videos!

      Sj Smith rosemary... the seasoning... make a strong tea from it and spray the plants 👍. If that isnt strong enough. Use Bay Leave tea the same way. Honestly i mix mine 😉 just in case.

    They look really good, and it looks like you had a pretty good harvest from your garden. My garden didn't do so well, but I know someone who did, and I will definitely be using their stuff to make some pickles :)

    Great video, I love having pickle juice on hand, when ever I have a sore throat and cough it works like a charm, not sure why but it does. add a peanut butter and pickle sandwich if it's real bad.
    Take care

    I love pickles! I dont think I will be getting many cucumbers this year so I might not be able to can any from my garden but I will be finding some at the farmers market. I also have that book and I love it!

    @67palove Your welcome, sweet pickles are really easy and you can use any pot that is deep enough to cover the jars with 2" of water just remember to put a towel or canning jar rings on the bottom to keep the jars off the bottom of the pot. Let me know how it goes. Blessings!

    Yum! Reminds me of the lime pickles my grandma used to make---Just a bit different tho. I think she brined them for 3 days, pouring brine off everyday and boiling, and reapplying. Have to see if i can find her recipe. I will have to find cucks to try this! Thanks!

  • @BexarPrepper
    @BexarPrepper  13 років тому

    @skybirdbird I won't wast my money on Pickle crisp just cut the blossom ends off and they will stay just as crisp. Unless you make refrigerator pickles they are always the crispist.

  • @BexarPrepper

    @jasonmushersee Nope never used pickle crisp before but other than that there all pretty much the same for pickles.

    @katzcradul I think the brine and crock was the only way the ole timers knew how to make them, that was also how I was taught. I also don't have that recipe anymore but I do still have the Kosher dill pickle recipe they gave me :) Blessings!

  • @BexarPrepper
    @BexarPrepper  13 років тому

    @niffer58 sound like the pickle vinager wasn't the right acidity. You wont have that problem with these since they are sweet pickles. Its the ball canning book. Skybirdbird has a link in one of her videos on a free dowmload of it. Blessings!

    Thanks! And I have been asking around because of all the grandbabies I have....is there some kind os sweets...desserts....to make and can? If so which are the best and what is the shelf life? I know everyone thinks I am nuts but I figure if I have to rely on it someday....at least I have treats for the kids lol. Okay, I admit I have a sweet tooth as well. This is something I would enjoy doing and figured you'd know.

    Well, my wife has tried 2 new recipes this year, gonna open a couple of jars in a week or so and test them. If they aren't good, we're gonna try this one. One of them was an Amish recipe that used mustard, the other was just dill and garlic. Do you offer online courses ? Nice mater too, looked pretty good.. .. Great job BP, as usual ! ;-)
