The "Al dente" line may seem a little forced to rhyme with Edward Kenway of Assassins Creed who was apparently sponsoring the video but it still works in context. Al dente refers to pasta that is only partially cooked and thus is harder than normal (literally, "To the tooth" because you need to chew it more) so Capone is "Hard" like undercooked pasta...doesn't quite have the same ring to it...
Capone had a lot of awesome lines, but my favorite is his boast that he would use Blackbeard’s own fuses in his hat to blow him and his crew up, burn his ship down, and collect the insurance money on it. That’s literally at tactic that a mobster like Capone would do. Compare that to Blackbeard’s similar line that he would steal all of Capone’s alcohol and then sell it back at a higher profit, which is what a pirate would do, and it just doesn’t sound nearly as badass. Capone wins easily.
I can't really decide who I think won. (Both did really good.) I DO remember learning that Blackbeard was a REALLY interesting person. He was actually an educated "nerd" who was initially taken Prisoner of the pirate ship. (working for his food) But when the previous Captain died during a ship raid, the crew later held a vote on who their new leader was going to be, and they made HIM captain. He proved to be a VERY smart leader & a MASTER of psychological warfare. He would put Fuses in his beard braids & LIGHT them when a battle started. (creating a cloud of smoke & sparks around his head, giving him a very DEMONIC look) He also would (almost) always put any survivors on life boats, with food & water & directions to the nearest land. (thus discouraging his enemies from fighting "to the Death" & encouraging them to surrender, knowing they would be "well treated", by Pirate standards)
I have seen many comments about him having fuses in his hat or hair, his hair and beard are the fuses. While he would use small candles or cannon fuze for raids, both for appearances and easy lighting of flint locks, many pirates who were not state sponsored had no access to fuze and powder so would make both using urine. The small dreadlocks can be washed in aged urine to build up deposits of nitrogen crystals mixed with potassium nitrate while old bio material kept moist with well aged urine will eventually grow nitrate crystals for the making of gun powder. Gun powder and fuze was highly controlled at the time by the major powers.
Just watched your review of Close To The Edge by YES...I'm 71 and just smiled the whole way thru watching your responses...now you know why we like OUR music from back then better the the cr** they are putting out today. Jamel...buddy...you should have been at one of the live concerts...you would never be the same again, really. You have a great appreciation for all kinds of music and I applaud you for that SIR. Now, I think you like bass...if you do and have not already heard this guy, well you should check out Jaco Pastorious...especially the concert with Joni Mitchell. Be amazed...Thanks...old dude from NC.
I love ur videos..omggg ive been watchin ur reations for an hr now..ur makin my WEEKEND hangin out with u..but my ONLY advice...LET IT PLAYYYYY! If ur feeling the beat, an we KNOW they're gunna make a joke at the end an the beat is soooo HOT, just do us ONE FAVOR...let it PLAYYYY ALL THE WAY OUT AT THE END and THEN give us ALL u got in ur optionions❤ (which yesss we wanna hear!) ...keep it up👌 #LetItPLAYYYY
Blackbeard a.k.a. Edward Teach took this one. Capone may have sounded better with accent and that flow, but Blackboard's flow was good and hit way harder with those historical facts! Teach FTW!
I take points away in that Blackbeard repeated himself in both rounds. In round 1, he said Capone was an obese greasy sleaze, squeezing a diseased peter, talking about Capone’s syphilis; then in round 2, he said he was a fat slob with an STD in his brain. Same line, different words. And his line about stealing Capone’s alcohol and selling it back for profit doesn’t hit nearly as hard as Capone saying that he’ll kill Blackbeard and his crew with his own fuses, burn down his ship, and collect the insurance money on it. Capone had better flow, better burns, harder hits, and never had to use the same insult twice. Blackbeard lost.
Capone killed it!...literally! 😂 The flow with that NYC accent was killer! Shout out to the assassin from Assassin's Creed in the background! Nice touch
So, Blackbeard's real last name was Teach.. Edward Teach. "slappin' Teaches".... Not slapping teachers.. slapping Teaches. --- Now, they gave this battle to Capone. The bars he had.. and his delivery was flawless. But in real life, nobody dresses up like Capone for Halloween because he wasn't as scary as Blackbeard. Argument is who was scarier, Blackbeard or Flint? Capone wasn't even as ruthless as Jack Rackham.
“Teaches” is also how you say “teachers” with an accent like Capone’s (he was born in New York). He was saying both, it’s a good double. I decided to do some research, his schooling ended at age 14 when he literally slapped his Catholic school teacher in her face. It’s not just a sick double, it’s a sick double on a backstory bar.
It's a play on both. you kind of left out half the bar. It's a play on both Blackbeard's real name, and the fact that Capone was expelled from school at 14 for literally slapping a teacher.
I'm not sure of the South Carolina reference, but Blackbeard's ship, 'Queen Anne's Revenge' ran aground in North Carolina in May 1718. It was so named as most pirates at the time were supporters of the English Stuart dynasty, which had recently been succeeded by the Hanoverian dynasty. Queen Anne was the last Stuart monarch. Queen Anne's Revenge was rediscovered in 1996.
Love your reactions, you should check out a song called Ode to Viceroy by Mac Demarco! Not sure if you've heard him or a sound like it but its nice and janky and would be a fun listen!
If you liked this one and also like SciFi novels, I highly recommend Peter F Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy. Like Game of Thrones times The Expanse. And there may be more than a passing Al Capone reference 😎
I know Capone had the accent going for him, but I don't care. Blackboard clearly had more shit to say, his rhymes were colder, his flow was better and overall his hits were way harder. You wanna go straight facts, Blackbeard won this one.
This was an early ERB but I would have died to see General Smedley Butler drop in and smack down both of them: For a pirate, teaching democracy's great, the crew tried but you got scurvey...The boat only floats when the leadership of state are all seaworthy!...And Capone, I guess I should be impressed by you gents, you strong-armed three districts? I bayoneted three continents!...I'd roast y'all some more but it's time I be going. I've got business with this whistle of a fascist train that needs blowin'...
Let's all be fair though when he said you ain't a tough guy my kids dress up like you for Halloween as anyone ever seen a kid dress up like a pirate for Halloween 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wanted to add this suggestion to your latest video, maybe you will see it sooner. Given how open hearted you are, I think you will really appreciate the Housemartins and their live version of Caravan of Love. Check it out!
Black Beard smoked this one, Idc what anyone says. Capone's halloween line falls flat because I've seen more Capone wannabes on Halloween than I've seen Black Beard or matter of fact, pirates of any kind.
'Slapping his teaches'. Blackbeard's real name was Edward Teach.
Also Capone was expelled from school for literally slapping a teacher when he was 14
@@OverworkedITGuy agreed, it’s not really supposed to be a play on teach’s name. it’s disputed whether he was teach or thatch
@@huntsie it's both. That's what makes it such a good bar
His name was Edward Teach, and he had previously been employed as Teacher (talk about weird coincidence)
The "Al dente" line may seem a little forced to rhyme with Edward Kenway of Assassins Creed who was apparently sponsoring the video but it still works in context. Good timing! I'm thankful for you, Jamel. You bring a lot of joy, and breathe new life into so much stuff I love. Here we go!

I was waiting for you to do this one.
ERB comes up with the craziest matches.
They take their ideas from the comments section, so it's mostly fans deciding the matchups. If you can think of a good one they might just choose it.
I have seen many comments about him having fuses in his hat or hair, his hair and beard are the fuses. I swear, Capone's line where he says "I run an intrivate criminal syndicate, so show respect" has the best flow.

I've always said this is one of the best ERBs.
"i'm a busy man captain crunch" thats the killer for me...
I'll make this quick (Nesquik)
On this episode from ERB starring the battle of a pirate vs a gangster

Can you please react to Brian Wilson presents SMiLE? I’ve been asking for a while, and you are missing out on one of the greatest albums ever

ERB needs to do a part 2 for this.
Capone killed it!...literally! 😂
The flow with that NYC accent was killer!
Shout out to the assassin from Assassin's Creed in the background! Nice touch
That's one of the closer battles out there. I give it to Capone but it was close.
You should check out James Taylor! ‘don't let me be lonely tonight', 'shower the people,' and 'you've got a friend' are some good ones.
This was always one of my favorite ones back in the day.
Capone had this one.
The fuck😂😂😂

Both of them were good but..Capone won this one by a hair
al capone won this. the al dente line was nice. blackbeard was too focused on making pirate puns.
They were both good, but Al Capone hit harder. Love these! Peace and love brother.
Black beards home base was Ocracoke NC where descendants of his still live today. In real life Black Beard would have beaten Capone hands down.
"Ruined pirates like Johnny Depp," ain't no wonder he was in Alcatraz. 🙄
That line high seas Caesar goes haaaarrdd

His boat the Queen Anne was no joke.

This is one of the best. They both had hard bars and crushed it.
Capone, all day long!
Capone won narrowly
Ey we used to dress up like Gangsters (Al Capone) on Carnaval in Netherlands so.
"You ain't a tough guy, my kids dress up like you for halloween" for the win. Capone takes it.
Did something happen? Neither of the ERB vids will play for me, the Rush one plays fine.
This was an early ERB but I would have died to see General Smedley Butler drop in and smack down both of them:

Al took it big time
Let's all be fair though when he said you ain't a tough guy my kids dress up like you for Halloween as anyone ever seen a kid dress up like a pirate for Halloween 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mobsters get cosplayed to death as well to be fair
Scarface màde Black Beard sleep w the fishes.
yo where's the intro? xD
I'll pick Blackbeard.
I wanted to add this suggestion to your latest video, maybe you will see it sooner. Given how open hearted you are, I think you will really appreciate the Housemartins and their live version of Caravan of Love. Check it out!
Edward Teach aka Blackbeard for the win.
Shaka vs Caesar.
Al for the win easy
Black Beard smoked this one, Idc what anyone says. Capone's halloween line falls flat because I've seen more Capone wannabes on Halloween than I've seen Black Beard or matter of fact, pirates of any kind.
Stop, pirate, not bb.
To be fair kids dress up as Capone as well.....
Capone
Blackbeards rhymes were better.
Why, worst pasta ever.
Yup, Al Capone won,
I'm watching, to see vote, sucks.
Ok other, dress like a gangster, so you. see.
Kind of stupid. Just sayin'!
First
I' m really fed up with those "so-called" epic rap battles. When will this end Jamal?
