    I've had mine for 10 years I used it the whole time I was in the marines and I still use it to this day and it's just as amazing as it was back then. Only difference is there is there is no serrated end anymore

    the LMF 2 is not a full tank Knife because if you were to cut a wire in your hand was touching the pommel, you would not get electrocuted. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you are doing utility tasks with wires and are in the military, it is a very helpful feature

    The LMF was made for military helicopter crash extraction/rescue - and cutting electric cable, etc......not hammering cinder blocks. You have to consider knife mission when demo-testing. I think that you were too hard on this mission-specific knife. Thanks

      I have one and it lives in my truck door when out bush and on my belt when walking in the bush ( Australia) it has never failed me and does everything I could ask of it I use a shovel to dig and an axe to chop the knife is to cut gut and prepare meat and wood also to extract myself from my vehicle during a rollover can't fault it 🇦🇺😎🤘

    • @jasong9502
      @jasong9502 4 роки тому +2

      This is not a mission specific knife at all! This is true combat knife, and will provide a solider with a cutting edge for any task he shall need. This is a stellar knife and he was too hard on it but that’s how you teat the limits of the knife. I personally would choose any one of the benchmade or Esse knifes that I own, but I would have no issues taking that knife into combat!

    • @paynekiller75
      @paynekiller75 3 роки тому

      It's not that he was too hard on it, it's that this guy's a DOOR KNOB and is doesn't seem to understand the true purpose of the knife.
      In short; "Mayor Fugly" (of that part I totally agree) is an idiot. That's all

    I grabbed my lmf2 mainly because of the fact the handle is insulated. I survey natural gas lines all through the country and run into alot of rouge hot fences. I could easily use it to move hot wire away/cut through it. Plus this thing is beefy. I haven't had to use it on any threats/wildlife yet but I believe it would do great in that regard.

    I agree with You,,the handle should be made with a stronger material and then over molded with rubber,,since the tang is designed not to be fully connected,,it's a strong knife made of good quality steel that can be made even better.Good test and Take Care.

    Great great review. Its a nice knife it shows quality of a product that is well made. BUT the design feature of separation between the tang and the end cap creates a question mark. Gerber should look at a redesign. I currently live in Europe the retail value of knives is generally 30% higher in price. So in seeing this test a doubt in terms of longevity of the product. Wabble is a no bueno in my opinion...

    I own a FDE type Gerber LMF II blade with the added safety tool(with nylon sheath). I got in from Policestore.com & Brownells. I paid around $85.00 USD. I keep the Gerber knives in my SUV for auto emergencies or disaster recovery events. I haven't used it often & did not tear it up but I can see your points in the video. Gerber may consider using a extended tang for a stronger field knife but keep this version for military or special ops use. I heard a few SF units & engineers in SW Asia used these Gerber LMF II blades to rescue air crews/cut power lines. I think the USAF SERE kit version was discontinued but Gerber might have a few out there. The GI/USAF version is sage green. The new Tanto style Gerber Prodigy looks cool. Are there any field knife models or brands you would suggest in the $75-85.00 budget range? Thanks!

    The pull-up test I think you should do it by introducing the blade in some complete hold or 2/3 of the blade of the knife and hang with both hands on the handle and make more force. The way you do it is not a good hold and you run a very big risk of cutting off a finger from your hand. Thanks for the review. I wouldn't buy a knife that doesn't have a full spike.

    Great review. Liked, Sub'd. I carry the Gerber Prodigy, and it has the same steel w/a full tang blade. It is so utilitarian that I love it. I have carried it back-packing for a few years now, and it is still shaving sharp. It is an ideal primary knife for my purposes. I even prefer the serrated edge because it cuts dry winter grass so well. I use the grass for sleeping in the winter, as I sleep on the ground in winter. No bugs, no snakes and warmer than a hammock in cold weather. That serrated edge rips through light vegetation like a laser, enabling me to gather a full arm-load if dry, tall grass in less than five minutes. That is killer and makes for supremely warm, dry and comfortable sleeping in sub-freezing, wet weather. After your review, I am convinced that the Prodigy is the superior design.

    I am obsessed with knife destruction videos hence I like your channel. Don't worry about the haters. The ones who complain the most aren't doing anything or offering constructive\destructive criticism. here's a few knife suggestions. The Glock 78 military knife. The Gerber prodigy or strongarm and any of the newer Schrade 1075 bush\survival blades like SCHF 36-37, 42 etc. I have found that 1075 and 420 HC perform similarly with 420hc offering better corrosion resistance. Do you prefer one over the other?

      +selfhelp69 The strongarm is coming up soon. ;) The first destruction test I did was with the Glock 78, it is a little goofy. Would like to re-do that knife test someday !
      I like 1075 better than 420 HC . . . I feel that the 1075 keeps a little better edge, but the 420 HC is super rust resistant. If I lived close to the shoreline, I would choose the 420 HC. Thanks for watching friend !

    This knife has a factory insulated split tang. Not a full tang knife . its made that way for cutting through walls and likely why the handle failed. Also there will never be an actual need to smash a cinder block with your knife in a survival situation. A rock will do for that job . save on your knife.

Her boyfriend took a couple blades and had beautiful custom jobs done fake ivory and polished with beautiful leather sheaths. And my shithead older brother stole it from me and sold it to my friend. I always wanted an lmf2 and I just got an old salty dog for 20 bucks at a hawk shop. My prodigy is better, the pointed butt would crack a skull no problem, same steel but imo the narrower width is better for thrust cuts and its lighter yet stronger. Best 50$ spent at wally world so far for the limited coyote and plain edge. My Applegate folder is my baby tho

      +Mayor Fuglycool I actually watched your Gerber Strongarm review earlier and I definitely think it is far superior to the LMF 2. It would seem to me that the blade movement would have allowed the blade to completely separate from the handle on the LMF if you used it for sawing or general camp use for any length of time. I'd be interested to know, what are your thoughts on this knife after testing the two?

    Gerber's American 420 is wicked good stuff but I agree and never bought the LMF because of the serrated blade but the poor handle design. Every failure I've seen with that knife has had to do with that handle esp the hard plastic insert. Once that gets hit like during batoning it gets cracked and then becomes detached from the tang.
    Check out the Schrade SCHF40 & 40d also the "L" which is 2 inches longer...Its an obvious rip off but IMHO a way better designed handle. The thing is a beast and comes with Japanese 420J2 steel, the 40d is the straight edged version so when I do get the money I'm going to get one cause I love the Gerber LMF but Gerber really doesn't listen much to their customers so Schrade will get my $$$.

    okay I'm confused you put a knife through a obscenely ridiculous amount of stress tests that you would never do to any knife in any real world situation you pass the knife on your tests but then said you would not carry it because you are afraid it would fail in the future when you really needed it. if you are testing does not prove that this knife will stand up to basically anything you need it to why are you doing these tests in the first place? If your own testing cannot show you that this knife will not fail under normal heavy use why did you pass it? And what exactly are you expecting to do with a knife in any scenario where this is not an acceptable standard?

    • @MayorFuglycools
      @MayorFuglycools  8 років тому +1

      +outcomeagent Heavy use is subjective. Depends on the person and application.

      +Mayor Fuglycool im not being a fanboy i guess what i am getting at is i dont know how shattering cinder blocks with the back of your knife is real world use? i mean yes it is a crazy way to show durability but to smash 2 bricks with a knife and do pull ups on it and fault it for a little blade wobble? honestly i will never run anything but my ESEE 5 for a survival knife. Again after that abuse and having it hold up what would you need to do with it that would exceed the abuse you put it threw? i mean if anyone trys hard enough you can get anything to fail and yes if you need a tool and its all you have use it but at what point dose it go from using it to do a job to destroying a knife? like if you need to pry a car door open because of a car accident (something i have had to do) and only have a knife use it yes and you will probably destroy it in the process but if it is a choice between your knife or the tire iron would you not use the better tool for the job? thats all i am asking.

      Remember, live bones is harder and more durable than concrete. Seen many a person stab into hogs, and break blades. Friend cut his hand bad once, from a shattered blade.
      Seen people miss hogs when the dogs are on em. . . Hit limestone on the ground and break tangs, blades, and handles.
      In self defense, on the backbite you can hit hard objects. . . Especially in an urban environment, when the aggressors are trying to harm you with anything from a maglite to firearm. I will tell you that steel is harder than a brick.
