Joe Sakic's jersey is retired and hung to the Pepsi Center rafters by the Colorado Avalanche on October 1st, 2009, prior to the Avs 2009-2010 season home opener against the San Jose Sharks.

I'm from Québec, and honestly, I believe Joe needed a big American city to become who he needed to become. We fondly remember him up here, and are all super proud he was with us all those years.

I served Joe and his family the on Canada Day at the Pan Pacific Vancouver (he is from burnaby BC) a couple weeks before he announced his retirement. He actually said it to me beforehand but I thought he was joking. Amazing player and a wonderful family. Burnaby Joe Forever.... there will never be a better wrist shot!
