    This is absolutely stunning, I started it this afternoon and it is such an exciting one to do especially with all the videos to accompany it. You have such a wonderful community on patreon, some of them very talented in mixed media and it is inspirational for the rest of us to see the work they are producing. It is so friendly and everyone is so supportive and encouraging of each other. The true inspiration is you though, you never disappoint whatever you set us to do and I’m so glad to have the opportunity to learn from you 👍

    I would like to see somebody’s version of this without blending. It would be interesting to see what techniques they use to do all the different textures. 🤔
    This is wonderful, thank you!

    The one thing I am learning from watching you work is Patience, Patience, Patience!!!! I quite often try to take "shortcuts", go too fast and in general, just don't exercise PATIENCE. I don't save time as many things I draw take hours equal to your time spent. Not to say I am close to your level of expertise, but when I finish "fixing" my shortcuts, etc., and am satisfied, I have spent equal time to your excellent results.

    I used to be in the "do not blend" group but I've found it to be very useful now. Sometimes, I feel that a drawing I've done doesn't need blending at all while others greatly benefit from it. I think it all just depends on what you want your finished piece to look like. Thanks for the excellent tutorial!

      Thanks for taking the time to comment Christy, I agree some drawings or areas in drawings don't really need to be blended, but it sure is useful and produces some lovely effect when it it used,

    I love your work. Your tips have helped me a bunch. I follow some of the same folks you do. I’ve asked questions to a bunch of other artists on YT and found a bunch of snobs. I do mostly color pencils these days. I use Holbein color pencils. I also have polychromous and prisma color. And scolded for Holbein use. And blending! I think blending is a must. Where would Bob Ross be without his dry blending brush? Your channel is my favorite on the net! Always informative and I could listen to you all day!

    I'm 56, and when I was young my art teachers would not allow me to blend. They told me that I could achieve the same effect with my pencil. Now that I am back to art after years of doing other things I am learning to blend and I am loving the results.

    Another great drawing and I've learned a lot from you so thank you. Regarding blending etc. firstly, I cannot for the life of me think what is wrong with it and secondly, whatever technique is used in producing art, if the art brings happiness and inspires people then it was the perfect technique!

    So beautiful! I really like it! :) I like the genre itself, I was taught this kind of architecture drawings in high school, in Italy, and we could blend and use grids for accurate drawing, same way as you do :) I have no idea why some people say we shouldn't blend graphite, and also I really dislike cross hatching in drawings that are supposed to look realistic, they seem unfinished and look more like rough sketches.

    • @Auriflamme
      @Auriflamme 6 років тому +1

      Yeah, cross-hatching was developed for printing with ink and while I do happen to love cross-hatching I will tend to blend when I'm working with a blendable medium. So I have to say that it is a technique which works for a specific medium (ink) and which doesn't look so great in pencil.

    I don't think it's wrong to blend, but I do think that you should learn how to shade without blending as well. Blending is great for really smooth and gradual shading, but if you want to maintain a crisp texture while the tone transitions from dark to light, or light to dark, then you should take the time to learn how to shade without blending.

    Wow, I have encountered a few -art snobs- purists but never knew there were those who think blending is wrong 🤔 Just ridiculous! Every medium is blended at some stage. There are no rules in art. I would imagine their reasoning being only wet media should be blended or something akin to that 🙄 Anyway, nice work! 🙂

    • @smoothie77drawingpainting
      @smoothie77drawingpainting  6 років тому +1

      Lol nicely crossed out Kyomii, Yes its hard to believe that some artist don't agree with blending, maybe your thinking about wet media is true, I hope someone can shed some light on this...

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 6 років тому +1

      smoothie77 I hope they can too, because I can’t think of any genuine reason why graphite shouldn’t be blended, -unless there’s a strange cult out there who rule blending is an unlawful activity- and graphite powder is made for blending! Have you tried the blackwing 602 pencils? If not, please do, they are fantastic to work with, only half the pressure required, and they blend like an absolute dream 😉

    If you can't use blenders with graphite then you maybe shouldn't be allowed to use a paintbrush with watercolour or oils etc. Personally I don't like using blenders, don't like the results I get with them, but a rule against them is ridiculous, I draw for pleasure, it's like telling me I can't shouldn't use a slice backhand when I play tennis, or that I shouldn't add a drop of water to my scotch.
