Pines - OP-1 & Monome Norns & FX - Ambient recorded to Cassette

  • Teenage Engineering OP-1 recorded and looped with its internal tape as well as Monome Norns. Both played through two Chase Bliss Tonall Recall pedals and an OTO Bam reverb. Recorded straight to cassette. The video goes in and out of sync due to tape warble, nothing I can do about that.

    sounds so good!! when you recorded / performed this, were you monitoring the input or the actual tape recording playback? I guess my question is does it get recorded to tape before or after your live monitoring?

    • @JoggingHouse

      Hark Madley Thank you. I was monitoring the input. The tape has too much delay to make a decent perfomance.

    Do you record to tape for the sound you get or for the ceremony, tactile enjoyment? Or both? And then how do you get the audio back onto your computer? Or do you record to tape and digitally at the same time?
    Lovely sounds. Ordering the Norns in a few days.

    • @JoggingHouse

      After recording to tape, I rewind it and play it into the computer. I like to record analog because it is simple and fun. And I also like the sound.

    dont laugh :) but rather than conjuring impressions of temperate zone flora, images of street scene on a rainy and wet day in Philippines, or another urban south East Asian cities, viewed from an elevated window seat..... fantastically composed and especially captivating tempered and focused loop of that string like lead. Bravo.
    PS.
    I tried to understand the Norns but being non-tech knob I don't seem to understand it. I understand its a computer. Is it working like a daw and you are using its FX?

    • @JoggingHouse
      @JoggingHouse  6 років тому +3

      Ammanuel Thank you so much. I never been to Asia, so I don‘t know what the urban life there feels like. But I‘m happy the track evokes these memories :)
      Norns is basically a little music computer running various apps. It‘s not like a DAW, more like an instrument. I‘m using it to play (and manipulate) four loops here. I‘m also not a programmer or anything. But is still is a lot of fun to use.

    • @am5790
      @am5790 6 років тому

      I blame my wild imagination on films, scores, books etc...I have never been to Asia myself. I am going with my intuitive influences of images, culture etc... what they call aesthetic canvases :)...nonetheless, thank you for creating a track that enables my imagination to roam freely around the world ( for free:)
      I dont want to take up your time but I have a question regarding the Norns: how do you input or trigger the loops? midi keys or does it have a (step)sequencer?

    • @JoggingHouse
      @JoggingHouse  6 років тому +4

      Ammanuel It is played via the monome grid. The app is calles MLR. It has been around for many years for computers and is a classic monome programm. You should find many examples online. Most likely more on vimeo.
      Anyways, the grid has two „page“ so one is a bit like a sequencer. But not really. It basically visualizes the whole loop and you can jump to different parts of the loop via the grid. I‘m only showing the other page here as the loops are already set up and I just select them to change the volume and pplayback time etc.

    this is all great! I like your vids and music. I 've just been wondering...do you think this video would have had the same amount of views, if you'd had just put a random name on the piece and would not mention the gear....? I think that people these days are so much more gear oriented, than melody, or overall sound, arrangements...Please, this by all means is not a critique to what you do. I really enjoy it for both reasons ( gear and the piece itself)...

    • @JoggingHouse
      @JoggingHouse  4 роки тому +1

      Veselin Tenev It would way less views without the gear mentioned, sadly. It is the price I have to pay to get my music heard.

      @@JoggingHouse Actually circling back on this piece again - if you don't mind my asking, is the Grid controlling Norns' looper's sample size? Or is it doing something entirely different? Saving up for both, can't wait to dive in!

      @@karimsharif3681 Yes, it controls start and endpoints of the loop. The script is called MLR. I haven't used it since I made this track.
