If one reads the music and listens to what he does with it, this is equal to a ten-hour study session with the world’s greatest teacher. We could rate this that highly!!
This is such gorgeous playing, so subtle and sensitive. I was watching Richter's famous Beethoven sonata no 32 opus 111 from Moscow 1975 the other day, and that was mind-blowing. Here he plays Russian music with such sensitivity. I like the fact that he had the music there. There's no law that says the pianist has to memorise everything, even if most do this. Richter was massive, very big hands too, but what a lovely light touch too. A joy to hear this from 4th January 1982, thanks for posting it.
Richter was indeed an unpredictable force of nature. A visionary capable of transporting audiences with unsurpassed depths of expression and imagination, on the other hand he could be at times erratic and surprisingly below par technically. When however everything came together both technically and musically he was simply awesome, this outstanding Russian recital proves my latter point.
as a student from the Tchaikovsky line through Taneyev (who in turn taught Rachmaninoff) - I have to say this is the best concert I have ever heard. Please listen to my 80 or so compositions.
Richter always astonishes; such tenderness yet what power; this is the measure of greatness. Thank you Vladivostok 1969 for this wonderful collection of Sviatoslav's performances. Can someone help me identify the second piece Richter plays here at 436 ? So hauntingly familiar ... Cheers eveyone !
He is shitting his pants probably, Richter was an exceptional sight-reader and for such pianists its very hard to nail when to turn the page. Page turning is a very stressful thing, you have no time to admire anything.
@@Paroles_et_Musique First of all, it was Ludmila Berlinskaya, a pianist living in Paris today (not a man). Second, why use such crude language? Third, Richter was not sight-reading at his concerts. He simply preferred to play from music in his later years, as he did not trust his memory.
@@paulparoma Didn't want to be mean, just notice that being a page turner for a living legend is very stressful, nothing to do with "admiring the maestro". And of course I didn't say he was sight-reading, but that he was an exceptional sight-reader, which means he reads 4-5 bars ahead while playing, thats how the mechanics work. So, is very hard to nail when to turn if you are a slower reader. I am a Richter big big fan, so wasn't a critic.
@@Paroles_et_Musique You were not mean nor a critic, just needlessly crude. This is a Richter video, not Taylor Swift or Kanye West, after all. A little class goes a long way. Cheers.
This 25:24 .............; a wild tsunami of sheer power ..........; if Richter would have been so liberated playing Bach, Beethoven, Schumann or Brahms, and NOT so "respectful" , he would have been the greatest of the world. But no complain, he played Schubert, Scriabin and Tchaikovsky without any frustration and limits.
Wikipedia's page on pianist Ludmila Valentinovna Berlinskaya has her as Richter's page turner during his latter years. So that's most likely her in this video. What a job!

Richter has a russian soul. He expresses that... So beautiful. Especially the 'June' barcarole

Nice to hear some seldom heard Tchaikovsky piano solo pieces by the Great Maestro!
Moment musical in C major, Op.16, No.6: Maestoso
Richter absolutely nails this one! It's pure ecstasy.
Absolutely agree. It's imperial!
Sometimes those chords just need to be hammered down!
Staggering, I was doing some work whilst listening to this. I had to stop and enjoy the music.
Best music ever written. Period.
He could spin the most elegant BEAUTIFUL sound!
To have been present at this recital, is to have been elevated as close to God as it gets.
Sempre un piacere ascoltare un concerto di Richter. Stavolta c'è un'impaginazione del programma russo veramente irresistibile!
The best interpreter of Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.
Beautiful performance ! Thanks for sharing!
Incomparable artistry of this truely great musician!!~
Thank you so much for sharing this treasure!
Wow, Splendid! Richter is a man of Romantic ..
Yes, it's really "БОЖЕСТВЕННО". On the next year, 1983, I listened him in Tokyo Japan on December. It was very strong shock for me of 18 y.o.
Your English needs a little work.
Музыка творит что-то в душе прекрасное и настраивает мысли ввысь
Это БОЖЕСТВЕННО.
Maravilla !!!Merida Mexico

25:24 very nice, great.
Extraordinary!
Heavenly!
That lucky page turner. If she is a pianist she is probably getting the best lesson in her life listening and watching his hands.-and pedalling

Thank you for Sharing. Where in Moscow was this recorded? Pushkin Museum?
What they paid that night to see him must have been a steal.
Who is this happy woman , who is turning pages?
Ljudmila Berlinskaja. She's the daughter of Valentin Berlinsky (Borodin Quartet cellist) and a pianist too.
Vladivostok 1969 thank you.
