Topics covered:
The Arabic grammar rules related to Broken Plurals and Summary of the subject of numbers
-------
Learn the essential Arabic grammar (nahw), morphology (sarf), vocabulary to understand Qur'an, for beginners in English.
-------
العدد- Number -
• Singular - مُفْرَد A Muslim - مُسْلِمٌ
• Dual - مُثَنَّى Two Muslims - مُسْلِمَان
• Plural - جَمْع Muslims - مُسْلِمُوْن
جَمْع- Plural
There are two types of plurals in Arabic:
1. جمع سالم - Jam’ Salim - sound plural
2. جمع مكسّر - Jam’ Mukas-sar - broken plural.
In this part we take a closer look at the Broken Plurals.
Every ISM (اسْم) noun+ has four properties
1. Definiteness (مَعْرَفَة - تَنْكِيْر)
2. Gender - الْجِنْس
3. Number - الْعَدَد
4. Case - 'Iraab - الْإِعْرَاب
Understanding the four properties is essential for learning Arabic to understand Qur'an. Without getting a mastery of these we will not able to understand use or translate any Arabic sentences or phrases.

masha Allah
@@TheLanguageofQuran i think صرف is better way to understand the broken plurals.other wise bihearting its littile difficult
Thank you for your lessons. They suit me because I'm a slow learner.
A question: can you please confirm that I form the dual of an ism with broken plural starting from the singular form?
Sorry, I really do not understand what you mean. Broken plurals do not have any link with singular. Duals can be made from singular.
@@TheLanguageofQuran Thanks
Jazakallah Khairan, At 3:15 you gave some examples of Broken Plurals. I gather these are all in Rafa status. I am assuming other statuses will be covered in upcoming lessons inshaAllah. the moment you where there are exceptions and you just need to memorize, can be intimidating and challenging. However the "two rewards" hadith keeps you moving inshaAllah..
This is a "curve ball", the phrase that is used here in US. But for you it will be a "genuine unplayable reverse swing from Jimmy Anderson" :)
Wallikumusalaam,
The concept of broken plurals (BP) is just being introduced, the main point to note about E'raab, is that some BP will be FULLY-DECLINING (like the MUSLIM singular word), some will be PARTLY-DECLILNING (like IBRAHIM) and some will be NON-DECLINING (like MUSA). So there is no need to memorise lists, all you need to know which of the above 3 types it is and you can do it by yourself from there.
Do not worry about BP at this stage, they will become more clearer as you advance though the lessons Insha'Allah

I am having a difficult time trying to link up with follwoing lessons. They are very hard to see fro the right hand side on the you tube selection. I can only find through the title under the lesson and that is with some difficulty. Otherwise I barely manage. Any easier way?

If you have any problems do let me know
Ustadz, I am having a hard time understanding plurals with A’qil and non-A’qil and I have some questions. If you pls see this and answer them then it would really help me. :)
1. “Sound Masculine Plural is predominantly used for A’qil. To turn to SMP a word has to be singular, masculine and rational.” Does this mean that if a word is singular,
masculine and non-A’qil, it cannot be turned to SMP? If not, then will it have a broken plural as you have said that broken plurals are generally used for non-A’qil? If yes, then what if the word is feminine(except ة) like you have given example of (أرض) which is a feminine word, should it not be turned to SFP as it is a feminine word?
What I have presented are general guides and grammar rules. Not all words will go from singular to plural in the same way. Arabic is very rich in vocab you can have many words with multiple plurals (sound as well as broken plurals).
What you need to do at early stage of learning is to be able to recognise SMP and SFP and understand how their i'raab works.
Form your questions it seems you have confused a number of issues together and hence you are struggling. For now just focus on recognising as you come across them in your studies or Qur'an reading.
