BMW iX M60 - 'M'emorable or 'M'eh........

- We have driven BMW's electric flagship, the iX, before in base xDrive 40, and mid-spec xDrive 50 variants and still can't quite decide which one fulfils the brief best. Perhaps neither do? The only way to find out the pick of the range was to test the new iX M60 range-topper and make our minds up. Of course, to deliver a truly thorough verdict, Bryan decided to put it to the ultimate test by taking it to Scotland and trying it on his favourite road. Unfortunately, the weather got in the way. Yet that hasn't stopped him delivering his thoughts on this latest all electric BMW to wear the iconic 'M' badge. Is it worthy enough to wear such a hallowed emblem? Only the AutoEV road test will tell.

I have the ix50 in black w bronze titanium and its stunning besides being a blast to drive. Lux interior, idrive is a technical wonder and miles and miles on a single half hour EV charge. Also, most comfortable seats I’ve ever sat in. My ONLY complaint, and I’m searching here, is the driver door not closing completely unless you give it a good slam. Just loving this car.
I tried the Lucid, Telsa and the MB EQ and not even a close comparison. Lucid felt too much like a boutique brand and concerns about service and continuity of the brand. MB was too soft a ride for me and zero excitement factor when driving and the Tesla was just very spartan inside and actually felt cheap.
Hi Bryan - great review! Would you go for a base-model iX or a mid-spec I-Pace (knowing how we both feel about the I-Pace)
Cheers.
I-Pace is still the one for me. Great to drive, fantastic design, and still a brilliant car all these years on. Don’t get me wrong, I’m impressed by the iX in xDrive 40 guise, but not blown away by it. It’s still the Jaguar for my money.
Nice review. If I had the money I would definitely choose the iX.
I disagree on the colour though. The white is beautiful. And i've gotten used to the grille. BMW has made brave choices about their design in the past before, and my opinion is that this makes their designs last a lot longer. Look at a Tesla model 3 now, and it already looks dated. That won't happen to a BMW i4 quite as soon.
Interestingly enough @Tim my two colleagues both thought the white was really nice and suited the car really well. When it was all clean and shiny, it did look ok, but I’d still go for a dark colour myself. I liked the black xDrive 40 we tested earlier in the year.
You make a valid point, again one I alluded to back in the xDrive 40 review, and that is how BMW’s design might get a lot more palatable over time. I wholeheartedly agree in the Tesla scenario, I just find them as boring to look at as they are interesting to live with. And in the right spec, I do like the i4. However, for me, Polestar and subsequently Volvo are knocking it out of the park when it comes to design. The new Polestar 3 looks amazing, and the forthcoming 5 is really going to push the boundaries of technology whilst still being an absolute stunner.
Anyway, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the review.
If I had far more money than I do, the iX is the EV I would buy
I'd say M'eh.
Would go for the i4
I have bought the IX 50 (in black). It has more than enough performance and its tech, build quality and refinement are second to none. Ix M60 pointless the 50 is all you need.
I get what you are saying Stephen. The iX xDrive 50 is a great car. But I was absolutely addicted to that power! Love the interior of the iX and the refinement on all of them (40/50/60) is superb. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. You made a good choice.
I also bought the ix50 and couldn’t imagine a car with more torque or power plus finesse than the ix 50. The M60 feels like complete overkill. Absolutely love this car
Most of you will never get one before end 2023 even if you wish, so just do not buy. I got one, best car ever had (after several Ferrari, Porsche turbo, AMG etc…)
Why do you say no one will get one?
Front and rear looks ok, in every other angles 🤢
...'you've got to look past the looks'... sorry, I've tried - honestly, I've tried. My friend's son has got one and it causes birds to fall from the sky when he visits.
Dreadful looking car - not a beamer - a beaver!
They’re after the Chinese market with that huge front end design.
