I had one 2 weeks ago and had no sedation, I had a spray in my mouth which numbed my throat. I gagged when the endoscope went in and gagged when it came out. No pain at all. It was fascinating watching my insides on the tv.
Thanks to rapid development of camera technology, diameter of scopes are now down to 1 mm and can enter your nasal passages and enter your stomach without the need for sedation. TNE (transnasal endoscopy) bypasses the gagging reflex
I had a recent endoscopy no sedation, just throat spray. I was anything but comfortable. But the 1st one I had a few years ago I was sedated and didn't recall much about it..I felt everything on this one, even the tubes and camera going all around my stomach. Was very sore afterwards and a bit hoarse...Had colonoscopy later but had gas and air. Was only painful as camera as going around the intestines at the bend... Would definitely reccomend patient takes a family member and close friend, for sedation to occur. I was very sore after the endoscopy even though it didn't take too long and biopsies were taken...
I had an upper Endoscopy done 4 days ago and now i have the feeling of a lump in my throat post op. I was fine before the endoscopy but now every time i try to swallow my own saliva or food i just feel like there's something stuck in my throat exactly where my Adam's apple located, and it also hurts when I swallow. I cant cough it out or swallow it down. I was told to gargle 2 Tablespoons of Benadryl in warm water but that doesn't make sense as it not even getting to throat/neck area where I have that lump feeling. It is really frustrating and is causing me a lot of anxiety.
@@cicigrenylo9765 Today makes 7 days/one week since my endoscopy and I'd like to update that the lump feeling has gone down and the soreness has as well so I hope it goes away completely. I only gargled Benadryl twice but went with taking a tablespoon of honey instead as it lubricates my throat and reduces some of the discomfort from the soreness. Not to forget to mention that honey is known to have antibacterial properties too. I also continued with eating soft foods and also tried warm tea like ginger tea with honey.
i had this procedure done 4 days ago. they said a small polyp was removed but the doctor had gone to his next patient. the procedure was painless, but a day or two after i started getting discomfort in my stomach. it's been 4 days now and the pain seems worse than ever. going to call the doctor tomorrow. feels like i was punched in the gut. is this normal??? please help
I'm very very unhappy with the treatment by Dr. Tan Chi Chiu, gastroenterologist. He has pushed me to buy expensive medicines for which I don't have any symptoms currently. I don't recommend this Dcotor to anyone who doesn't help a patient and pushes expensive medicines that too for long term usage for the sake of business. Healthcare is a pure business according to this doctor.

My throat is in pain after endoscopy. I have some red lumps on my pharynx and my neck hurts. 24h from than. I have odynophagyia after this...
very kind of you doc you saidit very well thanks
I believe that these tests are ordered too often...way over used these days. Just because you can do a procedure doesn't mean you should.
Agreed
How did yours go?
@@lewis1180 Really Luis?
@@kcism3239 I was wondering how your endoscopy went. :)
@@lewis1180 when did I say I had one? Putting words in my mouth?
Helped my fears

This can happen, but all doctors say "it is very rare", unfortunately if you started talking around you may realize things aren't as rare as claimed.

Reason why I have BLACK stool 2 weeks after endoscopy?
There is some bleeding in the stomach then...
How are you doing now?
@@rozediana24 Black stool isn’t always indicative of internal bleeding. It definitely can be but it’s important to note there’s other causes.
