Made this for my entry table that I built, it makes it so smooth. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful result; I've always wanted to try a beeswax finish.
A tip! To make separating beeswax into smaller pieces easier put it into the freezer for 30-45 minutes. After that you can put it into a piece of cloth and hammer it down into very small pieces! Works great if you don`t want a knife with beeswax smeared all over ;)
Great video !
just made this last night. love it! love your channel
Great, I can't wait to make my own. I'll let you know how it turns out.
It looks great! Keep up the great work.
Take care
Roy
Great Video. Just found your channel. I had not thought of using beeswax this way. I look forward to seeing more.
Nothing the smell of beeswax!!! Great job!
Thank you for this video.. very nice presentation. I'm using a bees wax finish to cover the exterior of my honey bee hive boxes :) I subbed to your channel, so glad to find you! Wishing you all the best...
Thank you! completely amazing
Thanks for using (also) metric units!
Hello Linn:
You tied the wax and the bees into the scene nicely! It was nice to sit and watch!
Thanks for sharing
Larry
Thanks Larry. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was hard to get that bee to sit still.
***** Merci bien!
love the experimenting, I tried the vinegar & steel wool stain which turned out fantastic. I will be trying this beeswax combo. thank you for your interest.
I have never tried the vinegar and steel combo, but I've been meaning to. So look for a video on that soon.
I like how you made all of the finishes on this stool. I've always used the other clear coats you can buy at the store and finally fell into wax finishing a few months ago and really like it. I find my self putting that stuff on everything! Even when I do go back to something like polyurethane, I find myself using some of the same methods used in wax finishing and get better results because of it!
I would recommend wax finishing to everybody, especially to the newcomers to the hobby since it's so easy to get a good finish.
I agree, wax really improves almost any surface, and it's so easy to re-apply.
Darbin Orvar One thing that a lot of people don't realize is that you can put wax on top of other clear finishes. So if you need the durability of polyurethane but want to nice soft finish of wax then you CAN have the best of both worlds. (Just make sure WAX is last since not much will stick to that.)
Nice video Linn ..thanks
Steve
Hi, When would I add the linseed oil and do I still add the mineral spirits?
Just finished a toolbox from video by Wranglerstar. Now for some of this. ..
Thanks
Nice job!!!
Mineral Spirits! I've been using terpentine and it's SO SMELLY! I'll try it your way. Thanks! 🙏
I am loving watching this video in both 2015 and 2016!! I never knew you could make your own polishing wax! do you think a wax made of flaxseed/linseed oil and beeswax can be used for food ware?
Beeswax is such a versatile product. I have a project on my list to make some cutting board bees wax.. basically mineral oil and bees wax. This is a good recipe to have on hand as well! Thanks!
Regards
Chris
Hi Chris, I was planning a cutting board version also! One with mineral oil and maybe a little aromatic additive.
can i use Carnauba Wax for this test? If so, what is possibly the best ratio for oil and wax to make it liquid for my car polish spray project?
Linn, I love the finish this polish puts on your pieces! You say 1 part each, is that by weight or volume? Thanks from Virginia!
I love this video and linseed oil with a brick past video, but I need to know how can I make something usefull for termites dont touch my woody projects
Project suggestion: Beeswax block grater!
COOL . THANKS
Does mineral oil work as well? Thanks
tks for video, useful info, wud like to use it on my snooker cue stick. tu.
Good stuff. I agree about the turpentine. I've found it to be better than mineral spirits.
Hi, Could you use Danish oil rather than mineral oil?
Great video. Thanks.

Beeswax does smell pretty nice.
Thanks Linn. Just finished alphabet blocks for my grandson and will be using beeswax on them. I was also going to experiment with the additional of color to see how it works out.
Hi Jim, I was also experimenting with pigments and oil with the beeswax. Are you going to use pigment with it?
Darbin Orvar Yes I plan to use pigment but also have some dyes that I want to try out. How did your experiments with pigments and oil work out with beeswax?
Jim Coogan It's been working out really well. I have been trying out different woods, different pigments, different ratios. I have a video coming out soon on that.
Wondering where did u buy the beeswax? Care to share the link?
Hi Linn. Great video (among your other great videos, of course)! I have a question: I applied a Minwax stain to a maple handle I recently made. It dried for about a day or two and then I applied the beeswax/mineral spirits as you instructed in your video. When I was polishing it out, the stain seemed to be coming off on the buffing rag. Any idea what's going on? Thanks and keep up the great work!
+kravidy Thanks for responding and for your help.
You should use turpentine not mineral spirits. Mineral spirits is petroleum based, turpentine is from tree resin. Mineral spirits will evaporate much quicker, potentially drying out wood.
How much mineral spirit have you used?
Just a thought, but I think you could use a cheap drywall rasp as a cheese grater for your wax. It seems like chipping it with a knife launches pieces everywhere.
Also what sort of hot plate are you using. I think that's a great size to have around the shop for projects that need a little heat/cooking.
PlaceboTree It's an induction cooktop, great to have in the shop because there's no open flame!
Are there any types of beeswax to avoid? Are there any variations of beeswax, or is it all the same? Thank you for the informative video, I can not wait to give it a try.
Great video Linn, thanks for sharing~
Have you experimented mixing bees wax with any other non-petroleum product ?
I personally don't like using mineral spirits very much and would be curious about a 'friendlier' substitute ? Many thanks!
Thanks Tom. Turpentine is a non-petroleum solvent. It is still even used in some digestible products. These days there are a few other options such as citrus solvents, and there are some products that call themselves "organic mineral spirits". I will be working with some of these in a future video or two.
thanks Linn,
I think I'll try mixing the wax with walnut oil.
I like how you've warmed up your oil and wax finishes in past videos and it's something I'm going to try. Never occured to me to warm them and I imagine it makes the application a little more enjoyable.
all the best~
Should you put salad bowl oil finish before the beeswax or after? most of my wooden bowls are just finished with either salad bow oil finish or WATCO Butcher block oil finish.
+dempsey roll Definitely put salad bowl finish before the beeswax, nothing really sticks well to beeswax polish :)
btedycan cer
This video was really great!!
I actually made some too, but there's a bit of problem, I used 1 part turpentine oil & 1 part beeswax, but smell of the oil is over powering the smell of the wax.
Which kinda ruins the whole point of polish.
Can you suggest something I can do?
vipun chanchlani That's too bad. Adding an aromatic oil might help disguise the aroma. You could always heat it up and make a larger batch by adding mineral oil or linseed oil to salvage it. Otherwise, you're probably best off starting over :)
oh alright i'll try it, hopefully it work out this time… :)
thank you so much…
What is mineral spirits?
Might just go ahead and polish my car with this. Making it smell all beeswaxy.
I have a question can you make candels out of beeswax
Great video Darbin! I like to make a similar finish using walnut oil, mineral spirits, and carnauba wax. Have to be careful applying it in liberal amounts tough as the carnauba wax is a little harder.
I have been working with some oil-wax finishes too. Have you ever added any pigments to your mix?
Darbin Orvar sorry! I just noticed you responded. No I haven't tried adding pigments. I use this finish primarily for non colored pieces. There is a company in Asheville, NC called The Earth Guild that may carry pigments and be able to provide good info.
Is mineral sprit the same as white sprit
Yeldarb 48 it should be. if it is flammable and a solvent then you have the right stuff.
Ok thanks ill give it a try.
Why bees wax? Why not just scented candles? Just wondering
For better results add a small piece of carnauba wax
You can microwave beeswax to melt it faster
the classical way to make bees wax is to use
bees wax and olive oil
its wonderful
Olive oil will become rancid. It can also allow mold to grow. Mineral oil never turns rancid.
can we replace beeswax with parafin wax? will be the same?
good night first I want to tell you is a woman copy to apart is a teacher for my thanks for compatir your video i'm amazed as I remain the color in Wood juaaauu that God the vendiga

I recently bought 16oz of beeswax in oz blocks. I did NOT like the smell. It's strong but not pleasant as I was expecting.
I wish your wood piece used mortise and tenon joinery instead of very modern pocket hole construction. I am not finding fault. I am just identifying a more appropriate and aesthetically pleasing complement to you old world, time consuming finish techniques.
