My cat had a very bad prognosis when he was 14 . Three parts of his heart was very bad. No heart murmur. During a routine visit he had bloodwork done. His heart marker was extremely high. His dr had no idea what it meant. I asked if I should take him to heart dr. She said it wouldn’t hurt. I had to drive two hours to see one. He had no symptoms. Ended up he had severe remodeled hypertrophic cardiomyopathy versus dialated cardiomyopathy . Long story short he also had history of renal blockages / uti and had been on prescription urinary food for years which is higher in sodium ( bad for heart ) but his heart dr didn’t want to change his diet bc if my cat had another blockage his heart wouldn’t be able to withstand the fluid he would need to survive that. He was put on 3 medications and taurine supplements. One of the medications ( to reduce chance of having blood clots ) was to be given every 6 hours. Because if my work schedule ther was impossible. Plus the pill was bitter so my cat would vomit it up every time. So I was asked to try baby aspirin. That gave my cat blood in stool. My cat went into heart failure almost two weeks after bad heart diagnosis ( with no symptoms ) and I had to find a compounding pharmacy that would make his meds Into liquid ( I used wedgewood ) and the liquid made it way easier for me and the cat. His dr gave 6 months to a year but said 6 months very unlikely. Well , my cat lived 6 months after the diagnosis. I am still in shock at how fast he went downhill with no symptoms. Basically the meds bought us more time with him but I’m not sure how well he really felt taking all those meds , vomiting , gling bsck and forth to a million dr appointments. I think I spent about 7 grand on him in a 7 month time frame with his routine visits , cardiology visits , medication cost , all the cost of ER and staying in hospital for few days after going into heart failure. What was weird to was he passed away while I was at work. I seen him sat morning. He followed me around as usual. Was eating etc. my husband gave his meds that sat night and he seemed ok. I got home Sunday night sbd he passed away while I was at work. No warning. I miss him every day

My baby had heart failure- this is what the veterinarian told me and told me that putting her on medication would not be a sure thing, so I had her put to sleep. I miss her dearly. Has not quite been a month as of yet- Nov. 30, 2020 and it is Dec. 21, 2020. I will see her on the other side of the rainbow- rest in peace little angle. Still grieving over her lost.🌷🌼💐 😥😪😭

It's a great overview of cardiomyopathy in cats - I watched it numerous times. It helped me to understand better, what the three (actually four) forms mean in cats. Thank you for the effort you put in it. What a pity, you did not upload more videos.

This was so so helpful and informative! My cat just had an echocardiogram yesterday and we are waiting on the results back. I was told she has an enlarged heart. I'm preparing for the worst as she also was just diagnosed with diabetes and fluid around her lungs and possibly a tumor.

I would like to know since this has been a problem for cats forever I am facing it now is there any promising hope at all. Supplements to help research being done clinical trials etc. My vet is just like yes hes hosed I refuse to accept that from a conventional medicine standpoint.

My cat has cardiomyopathy. He has been given weeks to live. He's on three meds now. Before he collapsed he had a front right leg limp. Would this be to do with the heart failure coming on? Also he now seems so well and still plays outside. It's a bit confusing. He had water in lungs and his heart spaces were very small. What might we expect? I hope he doest get pain from a clot. He is on clopidogrel.

Kaz baz - Very sorry to hear that. With the collapse event that is very scary. I'd have to know a lot more about the case, but the answer is 'it depends'. Sometimes CHF does lead to collapse (hypoxia), but in many cats you can see mitral valve motion problems that obstruct outflow and cause collapse (because it stops the forward flow of blood). In addition, some cats with this disease develop arrhythmias (abnormal heart beats) that can cause collapse.
The limping on the right front leg certainly worries me because it would fit with a minor clot.
If you have not seen a board certified Cardiologist and are being told weeks to live, please visit www.vetspecialists.com (linked in the description box as well) and search for a Cardiologist in your area. There are a lot of treatment options available to us, but until we have a precise type of Cardiomyopathy we don't know exactly what to treat with. Meds that help one disease can hurt another.
Several diagnostics are indicated and I don't want you to delay!

@@olympicveterinarycardiolog6939 I would like to know, doctor, what causes it? Could it be something in the cat food their feeding them, could it be trauma at some point in their little lives. I am so heart broken at what happen to my baby. How could I've prevented it? What could I've done to help her live longer! The vet. said that I made the best decision in her case. I did not want her to to through any long pain or her quality of life be compromised. Yet, I did not see it coming. She was increasingly sluggish until one day she had intense breathing and it scared me to take her to the hospital right away. Did not have the funds to do all that surgery stuff but the least I could do is let her sleep in peace. i don't know if she was in pain. I was not even able to be with her during the euthanasia process because of the Covid. I am still heart broken over the fact that I did not see this coming. What could I have done?? She was pregnant when she came to me- the sweetest thing rolling all around begging me for food. She won my heart and I took her in . The city man took her kittens from her and aborted them and gave her back to me spaded. I learned later that cats need a friend with them throughout their little lives. Feel so bad, sir. 😭
