He's much bigger and stronger than Genki. It's natural for an emerging Silverback to develop aggressive behavior. That's why he's going to be moved to a new enclosure shortly. All Genki can do at this point is what any female gorilla can do: try to avoid an aggressive male and defend herself if she has to.

But we can clearly see that none of that money is going to improve the living conditions or the health of those animals. They are also promoting the violent actions of these animals in captivity just to get more views. I recommend that everyone unsubscribe from this channel and quit watching their videos! I would also suggest that everyone report these kinds of channels as "violent or repulsive" content to UA-cam. Otherwise, you are just exploiting their less than stellar living conditions and condoning the forced captivity of these beautiful creatures. Many years ago I was at a zoo who had gorillas. One was sitting on the ground behind safety-glass and relaxing. I gazed deeply into his eyes and he gazed deeply into my eyes. There was 'someone' in his eyes!! It was a wonderful experience. If only they weren't dangerous............
You shouldn't gaze straight into their eyes, to a gorilla it's a sign of a threat and quite disrespectful. At the end of the day you visit their environment it's manners to respect them. Gorillas only attack if they feel threatened they are not aggressive primates. If humans follow gorilla etiquette, they wouldn't attack.

I've always been found of Gentaro. He was my boy, but this is getting way out of control. He is behaving the way blackbacks should, so I can't say anything bad about him. But poor Genki, she doesn't deserve this. Gentaro does not mean to hurt his mom. To him that inter action is just a game. He likes to mess with Genki but not to cause any harm. Genki has no interest in playing, she just wants to eat and rest.
Thank you. It seems that many search for any signs of malice they can find. You see these harmless scuffles in all the gorilla families on UA-cam, as well as videos made in the wild. Now if something develops between Gentaro and Momotaro that would be another story and an intervention would be necessary. But this Genki and Gentaro thing is way overblown.
I think Gentaro acts out with Genki because his father so abusive and cruel toward him that it cause resentment to build up so he uses Genki as his scapegoat
When has Momotaro been either “abusive or cruel?” I’ve never seen him do anything that would be considered abnormal gorilla behavior. I think there is too much anthropomorphism going on in these comment sections. Just let gorillas be gorillas.
Gentaro was separated from Genki at birth for several months because she hadn’t enough milk to feed him. I believe the separation affected their relationship. This troop unfortunately is dysfunctional.
Gentaro had his Mom and dad for 7 yrs before Kintaro came along. Gentaro if you have seen any video pre-kintaro is a spoiled only child and acts like one too. Stop using the 10 months that he had to be fed by the caregivers. They didn't shelter or keep him from Genki. Its not an excuse to act the way he does. He keeps challenging his Dad you can tell by Gentaro's posture and by his facial expressions when he is about to erupt, and Momo is going to let him have it one of these days and it isn't going to be pretty.

It's not unusual behavior at all for young male gorillas to get aggressive with their mothers. It happens with all of the other families, and troops on UA-cam videos. Even Rikki, who is 5 years old, gives Momoko, who is also Momotaro's mother, a hard time. It's also not unusual for the Silverback to go after their mate from time to time. I've seen them all do that, as well. It isn't learned behavior, it's natural for gorillas. People really have to remember that these are gorillas, not humans, and to tell you the truth, humans are becoming much more uncivilized than the gorillas that we all enjoy watching. Maybe we can learn something from them, instead of they from us.
@gregsutton2400: with what we know of Momotaro's childhood, the fact that his father died before he was born, and the zoo had him completely isolated from his mother by the time he was 8, I think he does remarkably well socially. Thank God he was paired with Genki as a mate. She is 14 years older than he, and guided him beautifully. He was only 10 years old, and had so little knowledge of the social ways of gorillas, and the responsibilities of a Silverback. He is still socially clumsy a lot of the time, but he is very protective of his family, and often shows gentleness, and love. They are a very special family, and I adore all four of them.
People have been posting this sentiment for at least 3 years now, if not longer. Yet Genki remains fine. Perhaps this behavior is simply gorillas being gorillas? Perhaps you see these scuffles in every gorilla family on UA-cam, as well as in videos made in the wild?

As much as I like this family, I think see his dad hurt his mom may have influenced hurting his mom as well? Learning from what he witnesses?

I SURE HOPE GENTARO CHANGES BEFORE HE HURTS GENKI THIS AINT GOOD
People have been posting this sentiment for at least 3 years now, if not longer. Yet Genki remains fine. Perhaps this behavior is simply gorillas being gorillas? Perhaps you see these scuffles in every gorilla family on UA-cam, as well as in videos made in the wild?
