  • How do you build a hunting blind for free? How do you build a tiny cabin for the same amount of money?
    Well, do you have a chainsaw?
    What started out as a log frame built on 4 topped trees that was to be the foundation for a simple deer blind build ended up being a tiny guest cabin on stilts...that you can also deer hunt from. If you know how to mill logs with a chainsaw, you can build just about anything even if you don't initially know what you are trying to build!
    Since this idiot moved to the woods in February he has never stopped running the chainsaw mill and building random structures from logs and lumber he makes. And in all that time there has never been an ounce of forethought or pre-planning and this time is no different.
    In this video, he knocks together a floor, frame, windows, walls and even a real shingle roof for this rugged, tiny house.
    Because I’ve gotten so many questions about the gear that I use on the channel, here are some of the most important pieces I use every day:
    My Favorite Piece of Gear- Chainsaw Helmet amzn.to/3uuW5xB
    Granberg Chainsaw Mill amzn.to/3cdRXvn
    How I Keep the Mosquitoes Away! amzn.to/3frenvh
    Big, Black Log-Peeling Knife - Becker BK9 amzn.to/3oZIeOH
    The Trailer I Use Behind My 4 Wheeler- Yutrax amzn.to/3fvO8DK
    Bug Net Rooms I Use amzn.to/3uwOK0l
    Heaters in My Tent and the Deer Castle amzn.to/3frQ7Jh
    Thank you all so much for supporting this crazy endeavor! Without you folks donating to Surviving Ringworm, I wouldn't be able to even consider staying out here in the wilderness a second year making videos. You seriously blow my mind!

    This is my first blind of any kind ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxLQGtOO9dXIsNktEeycGoIT6jtJJNTScA so nothing to compare it to. After I receive it, I set it up and left it outside at home for a couple of months to let it start smelling more like outside than human. So far I've been very happy with it. Very roomy - I hunt alone but could easily fit another person comfortably. Put one bolt through the shoot-through mesh, and works as advertised. I've ordered another one, so this noob is totally satisfied. One caveat - the included stakes are pretty useless; you'll want to order something more substantial. I haven't had it long enough to rate durability, but zero issues so far.

    @Surviving Ringworm - Nice Air Deer and Bear blind. You could rent that out. Instead of burning your brush why not chip it and fill in the mud ruts and mulch the area you dwell in? Really like the look of the log cut offs as siding. Gives a classic cabin look. My father built an 8x8 deer blind high up in the trees looking over his field. He cheated and bought all the lumber.

    • @survivingringworm2202
      @survivingringworm2202  3 роки тому

      For sure. If you happened to see one of the last videos where I make a kuksa cup, you can see the back wall of the leanto. The light pours right through the back wall which was made from similar construction about a year ago. There must be at least a 1/4” gap between boards. But I have a lot of caulk. And since I never plan stuff far enough in advance to let boards dry first, I just put it in my head that this is “normal.”

      @survivingringworm2202  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks!
      I do go through a lot of sharpenings when milling. One fresh chain will generally almost mill one log. I have a few milling chains so as they get dull, I put a new one on then sharpen them all on a super cheap, electric chain sharpener/grinder.
      What kind of un-luck have you had with your saw?

    • @joeprebich
      @joeprebich 3 роки тому

      @@survivingringworm2202 I am constantly tightening my chain. Additionally the oiling mechanism always seems to fail. I've had the same problems with all three of my saws (24" Husqvarna rancher, 18" Husqvarna and 14" poulan). Would love to build a blind like this for my daughter and I. I have plenty of timber on my 30 acres. Most likely will get my lumber from 84.

    Love it, I have an alaskan sawmill and the way I handle logs on the ground is I taper the ends of a couple if 3'-4' pieces of scrap logs about 12 inches thick then wedge them under your log at each end then wrap a pull strap around the middle of the log and hook to your atv and roll it up onto the scrap pieces. Then you're able to get a floor jack up under your log if you need to get it higher off the ground for milling. You are someone that we could all learn from. It is a shame that most able-bodied people don't take advantage of what they have before it starts falling apart.

      @@survivingringworm2202 When I'm milling next to my shop, I drill a large diameter horizontal hole in the of the log. Connect it to my engine hoist, and lift it right up to the level of my cribbing. I get it up to 24" easy, then do the other end. Mind you, this is on 14", 30" diameter logs. Works amazing.

      @@anthonymazzone6463 What a great idea, thank you for that. When I built the 16'x16' platform for my 20' high treehouse deck (that I hand milled like ringworm did} I used a $50 Harbor Freight remote control one ton winch and some snatch blocks to lift the 3"x14"x16' poplar floor joist into place. Carried a 12v car battery to it and did everything almost identical to his except I used DeWalt cordless tools LOL.

    Good stuff - first time I’ve seen your video. Looks like a TON of fun. I built a trailer and camper fo haul my motorcycle across the country and I did it like you - little planning and a lot of learning. It’s such a fun thing to do! I can’t wait to build a cabin or tree fort - you’ve reinspired me. Thank you!

    With all the wood you had laying around you could have made a small platform to set your short extension ladder on to get high enough to climb safely on and off the roof.

    I like your tree house, I would add some cross bracing on the lower foundation, takes all the wobble out. That's a lot of top heavy weight, and with snow will be even heavier.

    Heck I would insulate it put in a smaller wood stove shelves fold out bed carpet slider windows and move right in Son get out of the tent. LMAO. Can always build another shooting blind but from all four side window slots. Was goin to say you could of built your own ladder also. Think the next one possibly with and outside wrap around deck with roof over it.

      I'm going to spend at least one night in it shortly just for the experience. And because more snow is on the way so I have to take down my orange tent palace for the season. Vertical walls and a heat source don't really sound all that bad when compared to a 2 person mountain tent...
