    My husband surprised me years ago with "mini" gladiolus. I haven't seen them since. They had all the beauty and no staking like the tall ones. I really enjoy your channel and the great information. Happy gardening!!🌺🏵

      Try Brent and Becky’s bulbs, they have nice mini butterfly glads! 😊🌱

    I love plants that produce racemes of flowers like gladioli, and I would imagine other summer flowering raceme flowers like delphiniums and verbascum would go very well with them. I planted some gladioli for the first time about two months ago, I like the light purple flowered ones as they remind me of foxgloves. The little shoots have already come up from the soil, looking forward to the flowers in the summer.

      I also love plants with that kind of upright habit. Yesterday I was planting up this border a bit more and thought to put foxgloves in. I think however that the plant shape might be too samey if I did that, gladioli and foxgloves together. I'll have a look again today before I decide. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

    Great video as always Rachel, thank you. Those Gladioli are going to make a great show when they flower.

    This year I planted my glad’s in a rectangle container. Thanks for saying that they need feeding bc I have never fed my others and they did well on the east side of the house. I love them as cuttings as I have a vase especially for gladiolus.

      They are fabulous flowers that lend themselves really well to cutting. Your containers will need feeding even if you haven't needed to feed your gladioli in the ground up until now. Happy growing.

    I had tried some in my garden before, but I didn't realize they needed full sun and a proper 4" depth. Thanks to your details and notes I will try gladiolas again in a better spot now knowing 3 things I can do better!

      Do try them again! I am sure you will have success. They are such pretty flowers, well worth persisting with.

    I love gladioli, here in central NJ, zone 6b-7 in the US, surprisingly they actually overwinter and the corms get huge. I also plant Acidanthera, the Abyssinian gladiolus...flowers very pretty, white with maroon throats. They are not hardy here though. Now time to plant the dahlias too! 🌱😊🌿🌷

      That Abyssinian gladiolus is fabulous but not hardy for me either. I leave my other gladioli in the ground but can't say I get the big clumps you do. Great plant whatever way!

    I love Gladiolus but they have to be replanted every year here in South Florida, with the exception of Gladiolus acidanthera (Peacock Gladiolus). You would think they would repeat, but no, the main corm just dies off and you might get offsets but they never seem to mature.

      How odd. It is always interesting to hear how plants do in other environments and sometimes quite surprising.

    Hi Rachel great video as usual, could I ask where you get your peony hoops please?

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  2 роки тому

      Peony hoops can be bought in a variety of places, any good garden centre. I don't know where you are based but near me they can be found in Beechdale Garden Centre, Arboretum Carlow and Johnstown Garden Centre, Naas.

    Are you going to plant more Gladioli in this new border or mix it up with other plants?

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  2 роки тому +1

      I'm going to mix it up, Una. It will hold a variety

    How did your estate get its name Douentza?

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  2 роки тому

      My garden is named Douentza after the town in Mali in West Africa, where I spent time some years ago.
