    Great job!! One of the very best in car audio and video pieces I've ever seen. RIP Can Am, or better yet, make a come back of one of the most popular and hair raising classes ever!

    Thanks for posting this. We just watched the same car at the SVRA @ the brickyard as Craig beat back the Big Audi and all other comers. Would love to see an in car from that race :) It is truely wonderful to be able to see cars like this scream in anger once again, especially for those of us that were not fortunate enough to have seen them originally. A+

    Very cool to see an old racing car driven with a bit of gusto! Love Shadow Can Am cars.

    What a ride. Perfectly geared, a little push, a great driver. One of favorite cars of all time. Thanks Craig.

    Those big breathing v8s sound so good. Hard to beat that.

    Does anyone remember a lunch hour race between 2 F1's and 2 Can-Am (all shadow team) at Laguna Seca?....was about '72 or 3?

      I would have loved to seen that race. What was the outcome?

    • @RickyJr46
      @RickyJr46 4 місяці тому

      It was called the Shadow Match Race, and it took place during the Laguna Seca F-5000 race weekend in October 1974.
      I don't recall the specific outcome, except that it was mildy annoying to watch as a Can-Am guy. It looked like George Follmer in particular was told to hold back and not hurt the F-1 boys…

    Man he's hard on the brakes much earlier than other series. LOL That happens when you're going so much faster !! Love the deep throated roar of a V8, not that whiney F1

    All that power and no downforce, yikes! Look how far back his brake zones are

    • @Karibanu
      @Karibanu 7 років тому +1

      2G lateral suggests a fair bit of downforce! brake technology has come a long way since the 70s.
      Who doesn't love the DN4, what a great car. If only someone had thought of using venturi tunnels...

    • @jamesaron1967
      @jamesaron1967 4 роки тому

      @@Karibanu Yeah, these cars could have been a lot faster especially around the corners with some better understanding of aerodynamics. The application of aero technology was in its infancy back then but some teams used big wings and other methods to achieve appreciable downforce especially after '68.

      @@jamesaron1967 If it wasn't for Can-Am it'd have been some time before european sports car manufacturers appreciated downforce ( probably until it started producing real results in F1 ) - there was a mindset that straightline speed was everything, see the early 917s and how awful they were to drive to appreciate it - of course once Porsche realised the opportunity they grasped it with all hands. There was actually a fair bit of work done on ground effect ( venturi ) devices before the DN4 appeared, not least by Jim Hall who seems to have pioneered just about everything! but also by F1 constructors, so it wasn't a totally unknown technology - just one of those convergences that didn't happen.

      I thought he was braking early, too. He could maybe have gone a few car lengths deeper. But really late braking isn't really necessary to set fast times. You lose more time if late braking causes you to miss the apex, and being late getting back on power. There is a video from a few years later where the driver (Claude Mallet) was 3 seconds quicker.

    • @thethirdman225
      @thethirdman225 3 роки тому

      @@Karibanu That wasn't ground effect. It was a vacuum cleaner. Ground effect is a genuine aeronautical term. It refers to the cushion effect between a wing and the ground during landing and low flying. Modern racing car ground effect is simply the reverse, in the same way that downforce is negative lift.
