"Hey Jude" was a gigantic hit for The Beatles. The single topped the US charts for 9 weeks in 1968, but the song remains timeless. There were likely some 70,000 people at that concert and they all knew the words to the song or at least the "na-na-na na" part. [grin] I'm guessing that video is from the Live 8 concert, London, 2 July 2005 -- Paul McCartney headlined the lead concert in a string of benefit concerts held around the globe on the 20th anniversary of Live Aid concert and timed to precede the G8 summit to remind the leaders of the G8 nations to keep the aid promises they made to Africa. The London concert opened with Paul McCartney and U2 playing "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", Elton John played a T-Rex cover, R.E.M. played "Everybody Hurts", Kofi Annan spoke, Annie Lennox sang "Why", The Who and Pink Floyd played and then Paul McCartney -- and he finished with "Hey Jude".
So right Faye that is one of my favorite concert songs. When I was at the show I went to everyone was so into singing along we had a encore performance that lasted a solid 10 more minutes. This was amazing considering thousands of people had their lighters lit in the crowd while doing the singing. I my favorite line is the movement is on your shoulder referring to his riding partner and close friends as well as musician John Lennon. Paul said the song was about John’s son Julian and Paul wrote it.
Fay nice reaction..Hey Jude an All time classic..Paul McCartney wrote this as "Hey Jules," a song meant to comfort John Lennon's 5-year-old son Julian as his parents were getting a divorce. The change to "Jude" was inspired by the character "Jud" in the musical Oklahoma (McCartney loves show tunes)
Paul McCartney wrote this song for julian lennon, the son of john lennon. After the separation of his parents, when he was five years old, he saw his father only rarely. That's the background of this song.
Paul McCartney is such a legend! He is the only man who can sell out stadiums on every continent on the world.
