  • Carb vs Fuel Injection! Riding my 2024 Beta 300 Race Edition (dual plugs!) and my 2023 Husqvarna TX300 Heritage Edition back to back to understand the differences between the engines on these bikes. Old school simple carb and mechanical power valve and high tech throttle body fuel injection with electronic power valve. Back to back rides are a great way to get a feel for the different characteristics of each bike. Thoughts on each bike....
    2023 Husqvarna TX300 Heritage Edition: Lap Time 2:56.4
    Big power that is very responsive controllable with strong linear partial throttle torque. This engine is responsive and POWERFUL (MXA says 55hp) and fast, especially in the Green map. Perhaps too responsive for some riders so KTM/Husky offer the 300XCW/TE300 models which are tuned more for woods riding and have 9hp less peak power.
    2023 Beta 300 Race Edition: Lap Time 2:53.8
    Super smooth power with a full flywheel feel that is easy to modulate. The new dual spark plug head helps give the engine a slightly sharper low to mid throttle response and might run a little cleaner too. This just might be the cleanest running 2-stroke I've ridden to date - even better than the TBI TX300.
    High tech fuel injection vs the simple carburetor! These 300's are so much fun to ride. More back to back rides soon!

    I would like to see a back to back with that 2019 300sx build and your TBI. Maybe have two or three people ride them back to back and ask which one they are taking home.

      I did a couple of back to back rides with a 300XC which had the Keihin carb, a 300 TPI, and my 23 300XC...all different power character and all fun to ride. Here is a short woods loop:

      I love my 2019 TX300 with a lectron carb installed. It also come with electric and kick start. Plus the carb version is lighter on the scale than tbi

      2025 CRF450R (hopefully Works Edition), Triumph TF250X (my buddy Dave is getting one and due in a few weeks), 25 KTM or Husky or Gas Gas 300 smoker with the updated chassis (similar to my 24.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition), 25 KTM 350 Factory Edition is the current plan and hopefully I get a chance to ride a 25 YZ250FX

    on the Beta i didnt like how the gas tank is so flat and wide at the radiator shrouds.......theres a beta dealer up the road from me in auburn maine and i checked them out.....does it bother you?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes the flat top fuel tank on the Beta is noticeable on the showroom floor - not so much while riding.

    did you notice much difference in riding position between the two bikes? I rode a 24 TE300 this weekend and it felt very cramped with higher pegs....

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  3 місяці тому

      Yes the XCW/TE models have footpegs that are 5mm higher. The Beta has footpegs that feel like they are down and back - very comfortable standing up riding position on the Beta for me (I am 6' 2" tall 190 lbs). Ergos are a personal thing so what works for me may not work for you. However riding this bikes back to back there is a sense of the Husky cockpit being a little tighter.

    Seems like comparison should have used the Beta 300 RX ie the MX 2 stroke model.

      I don't have a '24 300RX but my buddy does and he says it is noticeably quicker than his '24 300RE (yes he has both!). Hopefully I can test ride his 300R soon!

    I'm probably gonna add flywheel weight to my 300xc. What do you think?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  3 місяці тому +1

      That might help slow the response and make the engine a little easier to ride in the woods. Let me know how it works if you try it

    Will either of them go 60 miles on a tank of fuel? I had to give a guy fuel 5 miles out from the finish of Sat dual sport ride in Renfro ,KY . His buddy was on a KTM with the low fuel light on. Guess they made it. My kdx220 still hadn't hit reserve. Js ...

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  3 місяці тому

      I've not tested either of these bikes for range with a full fuel tank. I think 60 miles is pushing it for any 300cc 2-stroke. KDX200/220 is a legendary motorcycle!

    I saw 48.8 horsepower vs 40 horsepower. I was surprised Beta only has 40.

      The 23/24 KTM/Husky 300 XC/TX TBI engines make a lot of power (MXA says 55hp at the rear wheel). The Beta 300RE is no where near that though it still makes plenty of power and more importantly the power character is so good for off road riding.

    Does the Beta have excessive or really noticeable clutch or clutch basket rattle?
    My new Beta 300 rattles horribly at low RPMs and it’s definitely coming from the clutch somewhere. If the clutch lever is pulled in, the rattle all but stops. It’s so bad at times, the ride is not enjoyable.

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  3 місяці тому

      The clutch on my 300RE is quieter when the clutch lever is pulled in but I would not consider the rattle excessive on my Beta 300RE. Perhaps there is an issue with the clutch or basket on your Beta 300?

      @@SPCRacing1Are you sure the noise isn't chain slap? I've had an Xtrainer and an RR300 where the slap is really annoying. Obviously you won't get that when stationary!
