- "Reviews with T.H." is now called THROTTLE HOUSE. In this DIY, I install the UUC Evo 3 short shifter on my E46 BMW track car, Then take if for a drive to test it out. This was a very welcome addition, since my stock shifter was in very rough shape. If you are looking to get your own shifter you can grab one here:

For those following the E46 build this was filmed BEFORE I found all the rust.

OMG, stumbled across an old Throttle House video! Love it and thanks for the review. - I've always wanted to install one of these, but can't seem to commit to paying for one, time to reconsider.
“on the workbench” *proceeds to goto an empty space on the floor* hahah
Another great classic Throttle House video!
This helps me want to buy a uuc for my 530i e39. My e90 had a uuc and it was incredible, hoping to capture that magic again
Absolutely love your videos!! Keep 'em coming!
My old e46 had a uuc shifter and I had the same thought, feels like a miata shifter. Funny to hear that that's what it was designed after. I bought my current e46 with a rogue engineering shifter already in it (which is like $500) and the UUC feels 10x better than the rogue. UUC shifter is the best regular-style shifter by far, only thing better is a cae-style shifter but those get pricey and hard to daily drive.
"I just looked down at my gauges and they are not working"
Welcome to the glorious lifestyle we call BMW... XD
I've been wanting to do a vid on this as well! Glad to hear your thoughts about it :) Damn man you eating well these days? Seem like you put on good amount of weight ha!
I've got the same kit in my 328i. I've had it for almost 4 years and I love the positive click into gears. Everything is great, except it was over $500 for the shifter +DSSR and a steel braided clutch line. I've heard that a 545 shifter is a good alternative for fraction of the price.
Froilan Reyes do you have a price or link to where I could see the 545 short shifter?
the e60 545 stock shifter IS the alternative. Just get the OEM from any 3rd party store like ECS. I would recommend that if you go this route to get the DSSR. It is just way better than stock linkage.
What exhaust system did you run at that moment? What catalytic converter and what muffler?
greetings from Germany
You should definitely get an e39 m5. That would be so sick dude
I was hoping you were gonna go with cliqtuning race shifter but with the UUC dssr
autosolutions shifter without a doubt. thanks for the DIY.
11.30, There still appears to be a fair bit side to side slop/looseness when in neutral??
Haha was literally just looking at that on eBay last night thinking I need this 😂
Its funny you made this video because i also let me car sit for 2 days in my driveway and now my speedometer doesn't work either. BMW's man gotta love em xD
Clutch N' Stuff you have to really love them. Ultimate driving machine my arse.. They get you good at home mechanics though
Is there a bunch of lateral play (slop?) when in gear? I just got one for my e39 M5 and there is a ton of left/right play/sloppiness when it's in any gear. The shifts themselves feel good but I feel like that "slop" left and right isn't correct
is it pointless to install those short shift kits without the selector rod? the ones that just have part the knob sits on
Nice review, thanks!
What shifter Arm bushing did you end up getting?
Turner polyurethane?
I went with Turner
Z3 Lever work ok as cheap short shifter for e46, the problem is the knob winish pretty low in the car!
Goddammit, I'm looking for advice on if this thing is worth it, and of course Thomas comes in with the goods lol.
I wish my shiftnob held on that good
Did you have to drop the exhaust?
Do they make one for the zhp?
I have no idea how the hell you got that shifter carrier out. On my E46 Coupe I feel like I dont even the slightest room if were too pop it loose to actually be able to pull it out. =/
just unplug your battarie for some time and your speedometer will work again.. hab this problem 2 or 3 times ;)
What are the engine specs on this?
Does changing to short shifter also solve the problem with wobbly shifter?
Not really haha
garagistic solid shifter or IRP + DSSR is better
Lol future tip for removal shift knob, put it into 2nd gear and just tug. No smash face
4th not second
What was the total cost of this setup?
should be close to 500 dollars with shipping and tax
why didn't you go for the CAE short shifter? its more of a track car shifter than that LOL
Mostly a cost thing.
Throttle House my e46 325i is sometimes hard to put into first gear from a complete stop. My by pass method is to go down to second then shift up to first. If I go from neutral then first it's like I'm hitting a wall or something. Would this shifter solve this?
That could be your Master cylinder or slave.
CAE ultra shifter could be much more expensive like almost a grand. But hey, IRP made almost the same thing and half price cheaper.
alternotor die?
11:35... ooo that's good... Look how short that is... LOL
An e39 m5 would be sick and will rise in value soon. In Ontario you can get 540s for very cheap
+SOMEBILO2 a 540 is the more likely option.
Dude, who doesn't want an M5? Any M5.
Too many quotes in this video can be followed by "That's what she said." LMAO
Garagistics chassis mounted shifter and DSSR would have been a better bang for your buck.
Have you tried both? I want to upgrade my stock shifter but my car is mainly daily driven with occasional track days
@@philiott71 I think most cars could benefit from a tighter shifter. But I'm more or less talking about cost. Garagistics is a great group of people (atleast my opinion) that make awesome products at a fair price.
@@philiott71 No I have not used the UUC shifter. I do have the latter.
Ls400 is good land yacht with a v8
Short ? those throws were longer than they are in my stock 07 golf...
Man I watch some of these DIYs and I still don't understand how some of these guys don't realize that the way in which they do these videos are very ineffective as a DIY for others trying to learn how to do what they're doing when they do a vague right up like this no detail no close-ups just so do this got to do it this way you got to do it by feel and you see his face all the time but you can't see what he's doing go figure.
RH Albright I agree, we need more men like Chris fix out there nobody pops the shift boot plastic out before pulling the knob and it makes me cringe
E38
Telling myself I can do this.. Realize I don't have a hoist...
Same here bro. i have the part but I just can't convince myself to start on this one
i would rather see v8 swap e46 instead of m5 or if you want something bigger go even older :D e34 5 series or bigger e32
+patrykkowalski6 e34 is tempting too
i love them but i wanted a coupe so i got e46 (mine doesnt stop to entertain me either :P)
Buy a the e39 m5
The answer is always e39 ;)
just get the e60 m5
355usd ...kinda buing a used smg for that money..
Was this a paid review?
I think so, cuz that throw looks long asf
I went with the dinan short shifter, it has a notchy feel and its compatible with the DSSR.
After 4 near money shifts in 4000 miles, I have decided this may be the cheapest $450 I ever spend.
In my opinion that still has to much throw
És louco?
First first first ...lalal lalal lala :d bitcheees :d
That throw looks worse than stock
Hi, I have a 1995 BMW E36 325i which I manual swapped it with a 5 speed Getrag 220. Do you think the UUC DSSR short shifter can fit? Plug&play?
Long ass throws
Do an E90 M3 instead. Smaller wheelbase and much better looking car!
100th like!
Because race car😂😂
Lol battery reset for the cluster
I've been wanting to do a vid on this as well! Glad to hear your thoughts about it :) Damn man you eating well these days? Seem like you put good amount of weight ha!
I live in Canada! Gotta pack on the winter pounds ;)
