Tested: 2020 Beta X-Trainer 300 vs. RR300

  • Here in Australia (and in many other countries around the world) a 300cc two-stroke is the biggest-selling enduro model for KTM, Husqvarna, Sherco, Gas Gas and Beta in Australia. And the demand is similarly insatiable for the up-specced, special-edition 300s these brands all offer.
    What sets Beta aside from the rest of these manufacturers is the fact they also offer a down-specced 300cc two-stroke - the X-Trainer 300. The X-Trainer 300 is Beta’s second biggest-selling model here in Australia. And for 2020, the X-Trainer has been revamped. It gets a counter-balanced engine, updates to the bodywork and chassis, lower seat height, oil injection, and a host of other changes. We recently put the X-Trainer 300 head-to-head with the popular RR300 to find out what we liked best around our local rocky terrain.

    Just completed the Rubicon Trail on my new 2020 Xtrainer over the weekend. Never going back to my 300 XCW for such rides. It can't be beaten.

    I am an intermediate weekend warrior off road rider and I love my 2020 Xtrainer. It is an absolute tractor for hill climbs and anything technical. Impossible to stall in rain mode. I love the size and the linear power. Only downside is the suspension for whooped out open desert (not what it is intended for so no complaint) which there is a lot of where I live. I have my suspension getting tuned right now by Stillwell Performance. They have been tuning Xtrainers since their beginning and they said it will handle desert really well, but keep the factory plushness for the technical. Only power mod is a FMF Gnarly Pipe, and the appropriate jetting because I do ride at 5000 ft. I am not small either, 6' and 220 lb, so I do have a taller seat on it because it is a bit cramped when sitting for long downhills. I absolutely love the bike and cannot wait to get the suspension back.

    • @xeuse51
      @xeuse51 3 роки тому

      @@krasiplovdiv after having the bike for a bit now the fuel capacity and range is a major down side. I have the 2.9 gal (11L) tank and will barely get 50 miles (80km) out of it. Caused me to get rid of the bike because I do some really long desert rides. Bike is great just not made for distance at all.

    Excellent video guys considering a X Trainer being a shorter and increasingly older rider. Still like to challenge myself so looking to set my 500 exc for more adventure type riding but having the Beta for technical terrain. Nice to hear your views on both the Beta's has I've not managed to get a ride on either of them

      Just got my 2022 X Trainer, I'm 5' 11" with a 32" inseam and I can hop on and balance it almost like a street bike. It's also very light and handles well. Still breaking in on dirt roads and a little on the street. No serious trail rides yet so can't comment on that but it's very manageable and fun.

    I've been into MX/enduro for a long time and consider myself a pretty good rider. I love the 2022 beta 300 xtrainer it's a fantastic bike low maintenance and great gearing for technical riding vs the RR if you want to get into actual competition stuff.

      I just picked up a Xtrainer and it's a really nice bike! A lot of people give it a hard time because of the suspension but personally for my type of riding the suspension is soft and it works out for me! I have noticed it has quite a bit less power then the 300rr but it works just perfect for what it is!!!

    A question for Transmoto team, I raced Supermoto and superquad at a national / European level for more than 15 years, I'm 185cm and 110kg and I want to get into proper hard Enduro.
    I'm doing the XL Lagares circuit in Portugal on my yz's that are basically sm bikes w the original wheel set 21/19 or my wr 450 2 trac but the bikes aren't happy in that "ambient", from what I see lately in my circle of friends ktm is losing quality and I kidna have the feeling that now they only want to milk the name and make cfmoto moto thingys like that dukes 390 or pigmy Adv bikes for the Indian market...
    My question is, do you guys think that I should get the beta xtrainer or the RR? Every one says the RR but I look to the X trainer and I see such an easy bike to toss around, I haven't tested any yet.

      200 is an incredible bike in my eyes. i've owned it for half a year now and i can run side by side with 300s on singletrack. The 200 is not just a stroked 125, but really a well put together bike with a brand new engine. and im 6ft 200 pounds and it will lug me around even in extreme-enduro tracks

      You need a lowering link and run 120/80 18 tire in back. 5 ‘ 4 is really short for full size bikes so don’t be afraid to lower the bike. They will say some Bs about lowering links using the wrong geometry … they are not even experienced with lowering links. I am very much so… I use them riding very very hard enduro and blasting whoops in the sandy stuff. They work very good. @@eirikhustad

      The rain map actually makes it less responsive, only way you can get more power hit is by changing the front pipe to the RR pipe and turning the power valve up. Still won't be the same as you'd have to get it tuned again

      You would also have to take into account the softer suspension on the Xtrainer, which would make it drop down more, obviously if it was your bike you'd adjust the preload to suite. Not sure if it has it on the front though
