Geeeeeem: Letting our insecurities and imperfections build a wall between us and our dream can be very detrimental. I for one was not the perfect applicant but after I had given it my all I had to just take that step and send in my application. I had to tell myself "you know what? they are not going to accept you but just send it anyway". Now I look back and tell myself: who did I think I was to even say this!! smh! If my imperfections had crippled me from sending that application I would not be here today waiting to start med school in the Fall.

Congrats on your acceptance! Self doubt can be so crippling. I have to keep reminding myself to ignore all the negative "What ifs?" and keep thinking "What if everything turns out great?!"

Same with me!! I wanted to become a science teacher when I was a kid!! It wasn't until a year ago that I decided that I wanted become a doctor! I wanted to find my love for medicine on my own ( my dad wanted me to become a doctor since birth 😂 like seriously!!). & yes!! Help disparities is a serious issue! My mom is still receiving horrible treatment even with having GREAT insurance!! I definitely believe this is still due to race disparities!! Thank you so much Nneka & Jessica for your honesty!! I'm so happy I found y'all (I'm so southern 😅) channel!!!
P.S I needed that gem💎 I feel bad I didn't pursue this route earlier (nontrad student) but you are so right! God timing is the best timing!

I know this video is 2 years old, but I’ve just started following you both.. when I tell you I NEEDED to hear that GEM 💎 I am new to this journey. I’m a non traditional student who has recently decided to pursue medicine 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 I am two semesters away from graduating my undergrad degree.
My why: as you said Mental health plays a big part of your why, it does in mine too! Also I’ve tried to justify every reason that I should settle for just being a therapist or a social worker etc and I couldn’t.. because I knew that I would not be happy with myself if I didn’t at least try to become a doctor! 💗 thank y’all for being so inspiring. I am nervous but so excited for this new journey in life!

My main why is to make quality health care accessible to medically underserved communities! (I feel like I’m gonna need to remind myself of this frequently when things get real in Med school lol). Thanks for sharing ladies!! xoxo

your channel is very inspiring. I want to be a doctor and one of the big factors for me is health disparities especially for minorities and I was worried that was more public health. but hearing you all tell your stories just reassured me that mine is just as valid. I genuinely feel like I can achieve this. you all are definitely making a difference in people’s lives 💓
