A problem is that POP counts keyword variations (grammatical variations or semantical synonyms o Google) separately, not in the same total. No wonder that if you optimize every suggested variation, you may overoptimize the whole group. Another problem is that it is not clear what happens if the user decided to optimize shorter content but POP gives the same recommendations for the suggested large word count?

If you are on the content brief side it's all there (variations, NLP, etc) in one total and if you follow the recommendations there you can't get to over optimization. On the custom side, all the data is there for you to make your own choices on your SEO. When in doubt on what to do, I'd go with the content brief. The content brief will also automatically adjust the recommendations to your word count. On the custom side in the custom analysis tab you can select "adjusted for your word count" and the recommendations will shift down if your word count is lower than the recommended target word count.

I have an article that is in position7 for it's main keyword. It has a POP score of 81.3 and a toggled over-optimized score of 54.5. The article was at one time in position one for it's main keyword. Would it be prudent just to get the POP score back to 100 without doing any deoptimizing? Or would you recommend using the Over-optimizing setting?

It depends. If you have not already attempted to work with the Compare Data Subtab recommendations you may want to try that optimization strategy first. However if you are new to SEO, or you are working in a new niche. Then we recommend using the Over Optimization toggle. Finally, if you are absolutely certain your page is stuck. Then you may want to consider using the Keyword Precision mode. Reductions, should always be a last resort. As doing a reduction Google does not like can come with heavy rank loss. Whereas if you do one it likes, your page can skyrocket to higher positions. So if you do choose to do any reductions, be sure to log the reductions you've done, so that if your page is negatively impacted. You can then revert those changes and hopefully recover those rankings.

@@PageOptimizerPro Thank you for the reply. I have been using POP for 3+ years now and it is my core software to rank articles. What do you mean by the "Compare Data Subtab" and the Keyword Precision" mode? I am in the IMG group if there is a video to explain this.

Is there a way to rescore for over optimization the content editor (the new version of the page that is being written), instead of the content brief (the old version of the page that is active on internet)? Say I created a content brief with the recommended 3000 words count, but later in the content editor I wrote a content with 1500 words and got a score of 100% optimization in the content EDITOR. It still shows that my word count should be 3000 not 1500. Is there to adjust the content EDITOR recommendations to the smaller word count of 1500 and rescore for over optimization?

this is a good idea. We'll try to get this developed this week if possible. For sure by the end of next. What we'll do is add a section in the Custom strategies tab where you can put in a specific word count and the recommendations will adjust accordingly. Those recommendations will be pulled into the Content editor.

@@kyleroof7714 If my word count in the EDITOR is 1500, when all analyzed competitors are about 3000 words, should I account for that by just dividing the recommended word ranges by a factor of 2? How reliable would that be for ranking success if none of the competitors have such a low count i.e. there is no google competitor data for that scenario?

Honestly, these videos are extremely unhelpful. It's better to make a 1 hour video that explains explains everything with real examples.
