My mom isn’t a Weeb by any means. She used to complain about me and my sisters liking it all the time but at the same time she would always buy the exact manga volumes or dvds we wanted for our birthdays or Christmas. She supported our interests. She can answer basic anime trivia at least. Now the cycle continues because my 8 year old niece is forcing her to watch Naruto Shippuden with her and explaining the plot to my mom in detail 😂

One of the reasons why he considered watching it was because we shared a name with the main character. Even before that, it was one of my top five's at the time and luckily I think HBO or Showtime aired the initial series. Miss ya dad! Man, I wish either of my parents were into anime. I at least managed to get my mom to read some of Detective Conan and Fairy Tail, but apparently reading right to left gave her a headache. My brother and I have a few similar tastes in shows, but not a lot. He goes more for Sci-Fi and "Trash Isekai" (as he calls it) series, while I'm more into Fantasy and Supernatural. Just the idea of having a family member that can not only keep up a conversation about the shows I'm watching but even discuss certain plots points, and even potentially recommend something new sounds like a dream come true.

My dad is the reason I got into anime. It started with Akira when I was really young. I loved and still love that movie. It then branched into bleach, Naruto, DBZ, samurai champloo, and Afro samurai which is goated. Now he uses my Crunchyroll account to watch anime lmao
I don't think akira is the reason that anime got popular over here that belongs to speed racer ask most people between the ages of 70 and 50 if they watch speed racer and they would say yes and that's because it's very first anime that was publicly available to watch to America and the kids back then couldn't get enough of it so that led them to send other ones over here and that's why I think speed racer is more important because it was one of the first to break international lines publicly
