The U12+ Literally destroys the P20 Pro in most area's. Can you do a low light picture comparison on the rear camera's between the P20 pro and the Pixel 2 XL?
not to mention that god dam earthquake that was happening while you were filming in 4k on the P20 pro, didn't you feel it? the whole place was shaking like crazy....absolutely no stabilization...ridiculous on such a high rated camera.
Nice detailed comparison as usual... To be honest, the P20 pro is only good for taking still photos from the rear camera, because of the AI & the superior night mode... & even in some of the daylight photos the HTC managed to show more details when they were cropped in... However in videos from the front & rear camera, & even stills from the front cameras, the HTC completely destroyed the P20 pro. I'd have to say U12+ for the better overall package... Even though I can't ignore how good the night mode & zoom is on the P20 pro, & how crisp the AI feature makes some of the daylight photos... But U12+ definitely overall better camera...
Wow that's awesome, thanks for the review Grand S Firts I think that HTC have the better color interpretation, and better high dynamic range. For me it's HTC is the most underrated company, sadly. Huawei have only the better zoom, no more.
I like the P20 Pro shots even though there a bit darker much more detail and video but the mics sound much better on the HTC U12 Plus and photos looks much better on the selfie cam
Very good work Grant !!! 👏 I agree with all what you've said ! Front facing camera of the P20 Pro which is the same as the standard one and the Honor 10 makes completely washed out photos & videos in comparison with the U12+... And as regards the rear camera U12+ makes less good photos when shooting neons which are less sharp and accurate... Verdict the winner is the U12+ for me 🏆
Grant S You're welcome you've done a very impressive and professional work in comparison with a few other tech youtubers 👍 As regards this washed out front facing camera do you know if Huawei Honor cares about that and if they will release a software update ? Because many people complain about this huge drawback !! 😧
Great video. Your phone camera reviews are very well done. The only change I'd request is some commentary on the photos, noting differences, as opposed to music.
Thanks for the feedback. I sometimes try to provide commentary at the end. The most in-depth was probably this one: ua-cam.com/video/laTqB5rTCas/v-deo.html LMK if that's closer to what you're looking for. I prefer to just show the photos and have each person make up their own minds on first pass.
Unsurprisingly, I chose U12+ just because I like natural colours and better details. Although, there's a weird problem in U12+'s processing like what you see at 2:24.
I agree with you. i really admire the natural colors of the U12+ and its overall performance. The P20 Pro is a bit better in low light and zoom (but not by much imo)
The u12 front facing camera looks great in comparison to the p20. But the night shots on the u12 keep blowing out the highlights while the p20 pro highlights are preserved. Great cameras on both devices regardless.
A great job was done, thank you for giving an idea of the cameras of these phones. As for me htc is better at almost everything. Huawei is better at zoom and ll front video. Ll video is really debatable but i would choose htc for main camera and Huawei for front (but that narrow range). Ll photos are also debatable. Huawei is better at showing shimmering. But sometimes exposure and details are weird. Audio and macro go to htc without a doubt.
mmh, maybe your P20 Pro has some lens or focus problems. Usually this telephone have much sharper... moreover, many P20 photos are underexposed. You're sure you were auto mode? Was the exposure calibrated correctly? Thank you for the video
HTC U12+ should be the best camera of 2018 so far (for daytime, selfie, front and rear cameras) instead of Huawei P20 Pro. There are more details on the flower photos of HTC U12+ rear cameras as well. Also P20 Pro photos are way too saturated and unnatural, look very post-processed.
Thx for the detailed comparison, it almost covers every scenario! Most of the time P20 is killing it except the few times AI screwed up the red color hahaha. And how on earth does Huawei mess up the selfie camera.... those selfies look horrible despite some nice bokeh....
Hey Grant, your camera comparisons are some of the best I've seen on youtube, but 4k footage always looks too saturated in your comparisons. Are you editing these videos in Final Cut? There is this issue with android footage in FC that it applies rec.2020 color profile and makes android phone 4k footage look too saturated. Does 4k video footage also look that saturated on phones screen?
Thanks, the video looks that way on my computer before I put it into any editing software. What I've found is that photos and video look different on a phone's display vs the desktop. It's like the OEM optomizes it for their display sometimes since most people just show off their photos on their phones or post to social media.
Not a camera question, but since your in the Bay Area: which service provider did you use for the to phones and how did the call quality and 4G LTE speeds compare?
I used T-Mobile, which is hit or miss around the Bay Area in my experience so the phones connectivity and call quality was what I've been accustomed to with TMO.
thanks Grant for your videos, the most accurate i've seen so far. P20 camera is behind u12's , video and front camera is almost ...trash. P20 pro is only better at night shots
Huawei seriously needs to push an update to allow the users to have a control over the exposure of the front facing camera... Not everyone who takes selfies are young asian girls and not all people like that automatic skin whitening effect! It's really sad because if you use other camera apps you wouldn't get this issue.
Great video comparison Both have thier strengths and weaknesses I'm going to side with the P20 Pro, not just because I have one but I like the extra bits like the monochrome photos and it's got a great pro mode
The AI makes the photo more contrasty and more saturated. It looks so unreal. But the night mode of P20 Pro is just amazing I choose the U12+ without doubt
HTC 12 plus better in the day time pictures and video(better dynamic range and no over sharpening)but the P20 Pro is the best when it captures reds/HTC U12 better in low light video and front cameras ,and audio/Huawei is the king in night shots where the HTC falls like Huawei in video mode.I think both problems can be fixed via software but till then Samsung is Killing them in video mode but HTC and Huawei are better when it comes to picture quality.
I thought DxO mark had the P20 pro rated as the best camera? We all see things differently, but I would take the U12 camera over the P20. I never seen a phone camera handle reds yhe way the U12 does.
P20 better in low light. U12 plus more natural look, great colors, shadows also much better. U12 plus simply looks great to me. I have now a Nokia 9 preview, which has disappointing zoom .
One thing for sure after watching this comparison, is DxOmark is unreliable at all. I don't know what the meaning of good photo for them. Someone in the comment saying U12+ oversaturated and overwashed the photo. Lol U12+ is clear winner here in most of the area. The only best thing I see in P20 Pro is their amazing zoom ability, is totally another level even in max zoom. Night mode, P20 Pro are better too. Other than that, U12+ rocks. Really on Pixel level!
Looks like the U12+ might be the best for vlogging. The bokeh and saturation on the P20 looks really overdone. Overall, leaning towards the HTC, except for some low light use cases. May be HTC can fix that with an update.
Wow, HTC have really learned something with their Google alliance. It's a shame the buttons on this phone are a source of annoyance that really shouldn't be an issue, otherwise it would be almost perfect.
Sane Psyche lol...the camera of these two devices are not comparable. Please compare iphone x's camera with lower camera specd devices - where it fits..😂
Are we watching the same video? Huawei haters man, just lmfao... It took better pictures than U12+, no doubt, if anything, I always prefer a little more saturation opposite to a dull, washed out picture. Get a pair of eyes.
Yo!!!!! You need to slow down the picture switching because you are changing them wayyyyyy to fast and I’m sure it’s not just me but it gives me a headache every time I watch one of your camera comparisons slow it wayyy down no need to flip through them so fast give us a chance to compare details in the photos!!!
Well done, as always. U12+ seem more balanced and overall better. Well, for me HTC is always ahead of Huawei, in simply everything. My most favourite brand against my least favourite one. Though U12+ is definitely not my favourite htc phone even if it has the best camera on one HTC phone ever.
Este vídeo tiene algo raro, tengo un p20 pro y saca mejores fotos que las que mostró este señor en el vídeo... No es por defender la marca pero este vídeo esta muy raro
I mean IDK what's going on, I see these top comments, saying HTC smashed the Pro, when in reality it's quite the opposite. Are people just hating because it's cool to hate? Lol
They're fanboys who are on every HTC video... look at all the other HTC U12 videos here (especially the one where he compares it to the S9+ lol) and you realize how delusional they are...
vassie66 DXOmark scores does NOT take into account of front cameras. So your statement doesn't really make sense because it is the score for main cameras. U12+ still takes it tho
top5 mysterious No that's a midrange phone. It might have snapdragon 845 but that company standard is below. They do check some of the boxes for high-end but not all, do your research.
Two interesting things I noticed: 1) The HTC U12+ surprisingly did a lot better in close-up, macro shots and, usually, better when cropping; and 2) The P20's photos look like what a photo would look like AFTER you apply a filter to it, while the U12's look more natural. Overall, though, I give the edge on photos to the U12+.
HTC U12+ Natural color
The U12+ Literally destroys the P20 Pro in most area's. Can you do a low light picture comparison on the rear camera's between the P20 pro and the Pixel 2 XL?
Thank you. You make really good comparison video
Thanks, appreciate you taking time to watch it.
Some pics were close. Video, I'd give to the U12, especially front camera. U12 has much better sound, IMHO. Great video, as always, Grant.
Thanks George!
I like more of the HTC footage over the P20 Pro
not to mention that god dam earthquake that was happening while you were filming in 4k on the P20 pro, didn't you feel it? the whole place was shaking like crazy....absolutely no stabilization...ridiculous on such a high rated camera.
Lol 😂
I was surprised that the stabilization of HTC at least beats Huawei 😂😂😂 while to others HTC loses.
Nice detailed comparison as usual... To be honest, the P20 pro is only good for taking still photos from the rear camera, because of the AI & the superior night mode... & even in some of the daylight photos the HTC managed to show more details when they were cropped in... Huawei have only the better zoom, no more.
Yeah, the U12 has a great all around set of cameras.
Thanks grant s. Really love ur comparison👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks! Appreciate you taking the time to watch it.
I like the P20 Pro shots even though there a bit darker much more detail and video but the mics sound much better on the HTC U12 Plus and photos looks much better on the selfie cam
Htc u12+ ❤👆
Like the way you do the comparison. Very clear and smart!
It's surprising to see U12+ better than p20 pro in almost all the situations. Dint expected U12+ will beat p20 pro. Very nice comparison as always
I'm calling the camera a wash...Got to give the video to htc... Thanks for the great Comparisons 👊😊
It's splitting hairs sometimes as the camera on these phones are getting pretty good
Hi Grant really good videos! Could u make a comparison between u11 plus and u12 plus? Thanks
Verdict the winner is the U12+ for me 🏆
Thanks, appreciate the nice assessment.

Because many people complain about this huge drawback !! 😧
But did you have the HD audio toggled on the HTC for the videos.
U12+ for the win!
Only if you don't know how to actually use P20 Pro AND only if you prefer washed-out-dead-looking pictures. Then yes, for the win! Lmfao, some people.
Mark Stefanac absolutely the bigger lense on the p20 makes the photos fell like taken with DSLR !
Lots of good examples in and out, that's what I call a review. Was looking to change my M9 = I guess HTC still rules except for those squeezes...
should i buy LG G6 right now or it's not not worthing it?
Great video. Your phone camera reviews are very well done. The only change I'd request is some commentary on the photos, noting differences, as opposed to music.

LMK if that's closer to what you're looking for. I prefer to just show the photos and have each person make up their own minds on first pass.
Photos on Huawei p20 pro simply get ready for social media. HTC U12 naturally good.
Yeah, the low light is just different. Comes down to if you prefer a brighter photo or warmer with cleaner lighting.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching the video.
Hey, you're in SJ! Fantastic comparison btw
Lol, thanks
I love the cinematic shots from p20 pro
U12 good on a day light while p20 good at low light
Just subcribed to your channel man you earn my respect, unbiase review
Much appreciated
mmh, maybe your P20 Pro has some lens or focus problems. Usually this telephone have much sharper... moreover, many P20 photos are underexposed. You're sure you were auto mode? Was the exposure calibrated correctly?
Thank you for the video
Great video man, for overall I give it to u12+, just low light rear photo I give it to the p20 pro
Thanks, appreciate you chiming in.
Finished watching the complete video, the U12 is far better front and back camera. What's up with the purple sky on the p20 front facer.
The P20 front camera is definitely not good to put it nicely.
It's fake although it looks nice in eye catching color.

Right out the bat that front facing camera on the P20 was atrocious.
True 😂
I felt like an oppo selfie
Can you do the Nokia 8 Sirocco comparison with U12+?
Nokia 8 Sirocco dxomark 68 u12+ 103!
溜溜啾啾 yeah right regular Nokia 8 and Sirocco is same right?
Hey Grant, your camera comparisons are some of the best I've seen on youtube, but 4k footage always looks too saturated in your comparisons. Are you editing these videos in Final Cut? Grant S check the front camera quality using open camera app.
Expected on front camera, chinese oem really loves beautify filtered selfie cam even on video.
I don't know. The color is just washed out. Beauty mode was off on all the photos.
thanks Grant for your videos, the most accurate i've seen so far. P20 camera is behind u12's , video and front camera is almost ...trash. P20 pro is only better at night shots
P20 Pro night shots are out of this world good!!!

Great video comparison
Both have thier strengths and weaknesses

Thanks Glenn. I think the P20 Pro rear cameras are great too, but I have no idea what's up with the front camera.
Grant S yeah the front camera is like an after thought
How that got through quality control and testing I can't imagine
The AI makes the photo more contrasty and more saturated. It looks so unreal. But the night mode of P20 Pro is just amazing
I choose the U12+ without doubt

Best way to determine which is better if to look at both and pick what you like. I put no credibility into DxO Mark.
Htc u12 plus is the most underrated device ever
HTC Best of the Best
P20 better in low light. U12 plus more natural look, great colors, shadows also much better. U12 plus simply looks great to me. I have now a Nokia 9 preview, which has disappointing zoom .

Very nice video again . u12+ all day long.
Well said sir. 😁
Wow, HTC have really learned something with their Google alliance. It's a shame the buttons on this phone are a source of annoyance that really shouldn't be an issue, otherwise it would be almost perfect.
Thanks
You should have disabled the P20 Pro AI mode
Everybody loves HTC but no one buys? Why?
Because only HTC fanboys watch and comment on HTC videos.
Confirmation bias. Almost no-one buys HTC irl.
Because the advertising from Huawei is better than HTC and Huawei gives usually better contract.
u12 vs iPhone X?
Sane Psyche lol...the camera of these two devices are not comparable. Please compare iphone x's camera with lower camera specd devices - where it fits..😂
Супер!СпасиБо!👍
P20 pro is overrated
I dunno, the rear cameras are pretty good, but that front camera is not.
Are we watching the same video? Huawei haters man, just lmfao... It took better pictures than U12+, no doubt, if anything, I always prefer a little more saturation opposite to a dull, washed out picture. Get a pair of eyes.
Mark Stefanac If you prefer oversaturated picture, you need new eyes.
Mark Stefanac natural is better than saturation
Natural =/= washed out pictures. U12+ does the latter. Know the difference.
I would choose U12+ over P20 Pro .. That front camera on P20 Pro is very very useless
Not a fan of both brands. Well it looks like U12+ clearly stands out compared to P20 Pro.
HTC U12 is the winner!
What a detail review! I love it
I thought u12 video was 4k 60 fps
It does but the P20 doesn't
DAMMN...HTC NICE CAMERA
Except for zoom, the P20 was destroyed by the U12+. Good job HTC!!
take picture to 10 mp on the p20 pro and watch difference,10 mp is much better to day :)
I did use the 10MP photo size on the P20 Pro.
Yo!!!!! You need to slow down the picture switching because you are changing them wayyyyyy to fast and I’m sure it’s not just me but it gives me a headache every time I watch one of your camera comparisons slow it wayyy down no need to flip through them so fast give us a chance to compare details in the photos!!!
If you disabled the Huawei AI you would get better results
But I think U12+ has a lot of noise
U12+圧勝に感じるわ。すごい
I love htc
Whou Htcu12plus incredible....
Well done, as always. U12+ seem more balanced and overall better. Well, for me HTC is always ahead of Huawei, in simply everything. My most favourite brand against my least favourite one. Though U12+ is definitely not my favourite htc phone even if it has the best camera on one HTC phone ever.
Lol, easy one for you then.
Htc em modo geral
HTC is the best!
HTC
p20 pro better lowlight and zoom, u12+ better daylight
Este vídeo tiene algo raro, tengo un p20 pro y saca mejores fotos que las que mostró este señor en el vídeo... No es por defender la marca pero este vídeo esta muy raro
well HTC clear the winner for all round shot & footage , but look at p20 pro at night shot there are no light bleeding on the shot ! WOW amazing
U12
P20 Pro absolutely crushed the HTC! By far! 🔥🔥🔥
50 htc Vs 50 Huawei
Got to go with HTC on this one. Photos are more natural and more detail
HTC U12+ is god
man i like htc 12+ and its photo's. but the skin tone of front camera, man it looks like you have a liver disease...
Htc u12 plus always win.
htc beest 😂😂😂😂
Huawei P20 Pro front camera is a blurry mess. Dxomark 109 of P20 Pro is a fake score.
vassie66 DXOmark scores does NOT take into account of front cameras. So your statement doesn't really make sense because it is the score for main cameras. U12+ still takes it tho
Why you reviewers comparing HTC with these low end phones. HTC only stock up with Samsung and apple and comes out on top.
Sigma Huawei is high end
top5 mysterious No that's a midrange phone. It might have snapdragon 845 but that company standard is below. They do check some of the boxes for high-end but not all, do your research.
Colour on the P20 pro just looks so fake.
U12+ better
Umm,very nicely compared 👍👌
Two interesting things I noticed: 1) The HTC U12+ surprisingly did a lot better in close-up, macro shots and, usually, better when cropping; and 2) The P20's photos look like what a photo would look like AFTER you apply a filter to it, while the U12's look more natural. Overall, though, I give the edge on photos to the U12+.
Htc
