Great phone from HTC again. Wish they would release there phones earlier. It doesn't help that the latest snapdragon chips are released to Samsung first. Against fair play in my eyes. Also I'm starting to think my favourite tech reviewers are scared of offending the big players & don't give HTC the credit it deserves. HTC should have asked for the secret recipe (camera algorithms) from Google as part of the there deal to sell there talent. As a fan all I can say is thank you HTC.
HTC has really bumped up the camera game for all phones lately. Especially considered a lot of the Pixel's camera prowess is due to HTC's work with Google on the pixel and pixel 2.
Awesome Review! - I have a Question! - I have heard by another reviewer that the U12+ has Overheating problems when filming! It applies to ALL resolutions & ALL framerates... Can i ask you to PLEASE try to record in 60 FPS 4K for as long as possible & see if something happens? Please try 30 FPS & other resolutions as well! I need to know if this overheating issues will happen to any U12+, or if the one he got just was a "monday product".
Both Xperia XZ2 and U12+ are two of my favourite smartphones this year. If I haven't bought my XZ2 yet, I would suffer from headache, just because I can't decide between those two phones. Great review!
Hardik Jadeja it is great. The camera is excellent, I don't know if those people were drunk when reviewing this phone but the camera is great. Easily competes with P20 Pro, U12+, etc, and beats S9+ and others imo. The design is not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. It is thick and heavy but very comfortable to hold. I don't have any problems with its thickness and weight, so far. It is slippery, so you must put a case on. The display is fantastic, no more words to say. The battery life is very good, I've had hard times, wasting the phone's battery just to drain it to 15%. The performance, speed, multitasking (memory management) are super great. It is also very stable. No lags, hiccups, and stutters whatsoever. It is very fast and fluid. The audio quaity via speaker is great, its loudness is greatly improved over its predecessors. The audio quality via earphones is also great. I wish it has Quad DAC, though. Its software is stable, making the phone fluid and smooth. Its bloatwares are better than Samsung's. Most of them are useful, actually. The only drawback is the lack od headphone jack and no dual camera.
MrWalker1000 I can't say anything about that, since people have their own opinion about display. I personally love the display. I don't like AMOLED displays because of its oversaturation and inaccurate colours.
lol. S9 beats p20 and u12 bro.... so i doubt sony would beat any of those.... Sony's camera have always been not that great in the past so i think the reviews are correct and that you just unrealistic.
Just a small detail you didn't mention - smooth automatic zoom! I don't have U12+ but I saw somewhere that pulling zoom button to the left triggers that option. Try it.
That video of the bee is phenomenal!!! Love the overall colors too. If it weren't so fragile, the pictures this would take while hiking and exploring nature could be breathtaking.
CallMeNumber8 can this make any difference? Looking forward for this because sometimes htc makes the human subject smooth or soft not like pixel 2's photo wherein it looks natural and looks like the person itself
Does u12+ have a widescreen (18:9) still photos setting without zooming? Can the Widescreen be set in Capture Mode? Every review I see shows 4:3 still photos and video in widescreen. I like the No Black Column photos for casting to my 4K TV.
Kwaku Osei my bet is HTC wipes the floor with the G7. I have the V30 and U11 and the U11 is so much better, though the quality in audio, I'd give a slight edge to LG.
June 14 in the United States is when pre-ordered units from HTC will ship, Amazon orders or release day orders will ship June 21st Source? An email from HTC for my preorder I placed at 4:30 am est on may 23rd, moments after their presentation event for the U12+ concluded
David hunsinger Sweet man! I also ordered it (4 days delivery left!) Have you recieved yours yet? What color did you pick? I also ordered the stunning Carbon TUV case from "Poetic". Did you check it out yet? Probably best looking case iv seen in a while! :)
Bobby Roberts totally agree they keep competing with the iPhone and Samsung phones price (where these companies already established a following)and HTC they're struggling for recognition and nearly zero marketability, the most important thing in order to sell
HTC came with an excellent camera on the U11 witch was on par with the Pixel 2 but the HTC 12 Plus is even better. The only devices that can be at the same quality or even better are theLG V40 or the NOTE(note is not in the same price range) but we wil see.The HTC U12 Plus will improve the camera in the next months like every new device and some problems will be solved and some not.I believe that it will be the best camera this year and will not share the place with the Pixel 2 like HTC U11 did last year.
A shame they still don't have the 3.5mm jack. An HTC U12+ with a quad dac and a great amp like the G7 or V30 (extra points if the battery is removable) would be my dream phone.
Rishabh dev Tyagi Nah, it's an excuse to sell you another one of their proprietary products. I have some higher end headphones (Fostex Th-610) and honestly with a phone this big, I don't see why you'd remove it all together. Just like the U Ultra and U11.
Pat Have you used these usonic earphones?I also have akg of s8, they are nothing.Samsung give cheap earphones.Usonic use type C(bigger space to give hires 24 bit audio) quality that a 3.5 mm jack earphone can't give you. Also, s8 doesn't support type c earphones(because it's hardware that other companies don't have).
You're saying complete bullshit mate. USB-C doesn't give you ''more space'' for quality, it's just a port. It instead uses a protocol (USB 2/3/3.1). It handles two things ; sending the digital data to a DAC (Found in the Usonic headphones), and power. So your USB port is just transferring your music file's data to a digital-to-analog converter so you may hear it. Then it's amplified by what is probably a fairly small amplifier as the Usonic don't seem to be that power hungry (None of the sites list the specs of the headphones). Even a micro USB port running on USB 2 can deliver you that 24-bit ''experience''. Though, let's be honest... your files are most likely just 320Kbs mp3's or random 16-bit FLAC's that still samples at 44100hz... In other words the 3.5mm, 6.35mm, 2.5mm, 4.5mm and XLR ports all can take in those ''24-bit'' files just as well, because they only serve as a connector for whatever you want to put in them. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a lossy and uncompressed file even if I played them back to back. Also, the S8 sure as hell support USB audio. The Usonic uses software found on HTC's phones to do the noise cancelling. That's what proprietary about them. A simple 10 seconds of google searches would've confirmed you that. Go hook up a DAC and amplifier to a computer or phone and then plug a proper pair of headphones in them, you might learn a thing or two!
Pat no, you are wrong here.I have s8, an HTC u ultra and a oneplus 5t.I have tried many attempts but the sound in s8 is only coming from phone not from earphones same case for 5t.That means s8 don't support usb type c 24 bit audio.s8's akg earphones are nothing as compared to usonic.S8 doesn't have DAC with charging port, it's not fully software dependent.
Well after a year it's easy to say that HTC have the second best camera after a very close battle with the Pixel 3.Day time still can take the fight with any flagship and I am not talking about Samsung witch is not in top 3 cameras of 2018.Even Samsung S10 is not as good as Pixel 3, P20 Pro or HTC U12...blame the orange tint and oversaturation.Night shots are for the P20 Pro and Pixel but the HTC won't disappoint.Video king (auto mode) is the iPhone Xs and the S9 but HTC won't disappoint again but P20 Pro do disappoint. So in the end Google keeps the crown with a single camera but HTC hits all the points being a superb device with the most balanced camera hardware and software.
Dud! Stop! Stop the excellent reviews, HTC has been my little secret , and your vulgar displays of admiration is not helping! Put down the U12 and back away! NOW! 😂
Paulo Trindade Obviouly not, since in this comparison it got smashed by the HTC. The P20 Pro is only good for the Asian market where they care about beauty filters. It has terribly post-processing, awful colour rendering. It's just not a very good phone.
Htc u12+ is the best phone for me
I love you htc💟💙💟💙👏👏🌼🌼
I love HTC
Great phone from HTC again. Wish they would release there phones earlier. It doesn't help that the latest snapdragon chips are released to Samsung first. Against fair play in my eyes. Amran Amir U hit the nail on the head. So called famous and biased reviewers can't offend big players.
I think HTC might already have gotten that camera magic from Google. The U11 was unreal @$600
Indeed, truly unreal. I currently have the U11, and it just makes me smile every time I use it to capture video. ~:-)
That explains why OnePlus 6 is only a 500$ phone. But HTC should really show (off) these amazing things, otherwise nobody knows and nobody buys.
Chengming Wang well said
Your camera reviews are second to none. Great vid as always! 👍🏿
biggs949597 s I guess racism is everywhere now
This is one hell of a review 👍🏻👍🏻
I absolutely agree. This review is replete with detail, and little-to-no 'filler'. Simply excellent. :-)
Good job on the honest review, you are better than other sponsored reviewers who are not honest at all.
good looking htc and camera love it
this is so detailed! what a great review. Also, U12+ is a real beast.
HTC has really bumped up the camera game for all phones lately. Especially considered a lot of the Pixel's camera prowess is due to HTC's work with Google on the pixel and pixel 2.
waooo htc good😘😘😍👍💪👏

HTC caps the 4K 60 to 6 min... likely due to heating issues, but then again so does Samsung to 10 min..
Both Xperia XZ2 and U12+ are two of my favourite smartphones this year. If I haven't bought my XZ2 yet, I would suffer from headache, just because I can't decide between those two phones.
Great review!
Alvin Z what is your opinion on xz2?
Hardik Jadeja it is great.

Beautiful and well balanced review. htc U12+ All the way
Just a small detail you didn't mention - smooth automatic zoom! I don't have U12+ but I saw somewhere that pulling zoom button to the left triggers that option. Try it.
Great video, and great camera. And with a software update, they can improve it more
Amen. Definitely looking forward to those software updates. :-)
The best review i ever see. Great job
Hell of a review, thanks!
That video of the bee is phenomenal!!! Love the overall colors too. If it weren't so fragile, the pictures this would take while hiking and exploring nature could be breathtaking.
Absolutely gorgeous pictures from HTC U12 plus compared to the other phones.
Great review ... Loved it
Quite sad that HTC doesn't market properly though...
Let's hope this phone can change it for HTC
Could you check how Google Camera App works on HTC U12+? Especially compared to native HTC camera app
CallMeNumber8 can this make any difference? Looking forward for this because sometimes htc makes the human subject smooth or soft not like pixel 2's photo wherein it looks natural and looks like the person itself
High Tech Traveler on UA-cam did that with the u11+
Subscribed, fantastically thorough camera review.
Another incredible review

Looking for a full review of U12+!
Perfect review!!! Can't wait to buy !
HTC U12+ #1
I love you htc💟💙💟💙👏
The sonic zoom is a bomb. The camera too although it's not the best in some situation.
it's really the best review on youtube
The P20 Pro' low light is just incredible!
Please Compare with LG G7 (camera and microphone capabilities) ...maybe in manual mode.
Great video!
Kwaku Osei my bet is HTC wipes the floor with the G7. I have the V30 and U11 and the U11 is so much better, though the quality in audio, I'd give a slight edge to LG.
Awesome review! No word on an exact release date yet though? :'(
AssCrown Here in Sweden the official release date of HTC U12+ is 18th of June. You might wanna check your own country though.
June 14 in the United States is when pre-ordered units from HTC will ship, Amazon orders or release day orders will ship June 21st
Source?

I wish I can praise their pricing. It shouldve been $749 to be competitive.
Bobby Roberts totally agree they keep competing with the iPhone and Samsung phones price (where these companies already established a following)and HTC they're struggling for recognition and nearly zero marketability, the most important thing in order to sell
no, all the prices went up due to part prices going up...
Was that a v30 you filmed with??
Yep.
How does it compare to the 11+
Did you film it with the lg v30?
Great camera review
Great review!
does the HDR beat the google pixel 2?
Thanks so much for sharing Deb ✌👍
A shame they still don't have the 3.5mm jack. An HTC U12+ with a quad dac and a great amp like the G7 or V30 (extra points if the battery is removable) would be my dream phone.
Pat no headphone jack because HTC gives unique type c usonic earphones.I have them.Best earphones in the world

Best REVIEW !

Should have put it up against the P2XL, iPhone X and the S9 to see how it really fares against the best camera phones.
Very interesting video! Why no comparisons with the Pixel 2 though?
Ygor Cortes check out high tech traveller video. He got that comparison video.
DeekoshDickHead thank you!
Wowww htc! And good review!!!
time to throw samsung and apple to garbage and start buying sony and htc
You're recording this video with a phone?😱😱
Just an awesome video
Get used to the phone before making bad comments. Every mode on min e worhs brilliantly.
i prefer noise in low light photos because you can try to remove it latter but the detail?
if the camera kill the detail you will never get it back!!!
george rapp good point
Best phone in 2018
Gerald Amen to that! Will most likely get it.
anyone know of any gcam apks for this phone that actually work?
Please compare it to iphone x/pixel 2 🤗
Very good. HTC
I still prefer Samsung S9 plus. I heard that this phone overheats and is it true that it has a 6minute recording limit for 4K videos?
Roderick Aspiras the phone has not been released yet. HTC phone hasn't been over heating since the one m9. 2015
And how long can Samsung record in 4k 7 minutes 😂
HTC U12+ is hot
Hanz Villarante, Yes it is hot. Literally. Especially when recording video and playing games.
lmao
i will choice HTC U12+
Looks like a Sony XZ 2 Premium camera on the back.
IpX, s9+,htc 12+, lg g7, mi8,mi mix2s, google 2,p20pro ...never win oneplus 6. It's the best smartphone now! Do you thinhk too?
Please Compare it with iphone x.
HTC is so Great!!!
The best camera
Best ever
Still has the 2nd highest DxO Mark over s9 plus and pixel 2.
So does anyone get it
Dud! Stop! Stop the excellent reviews, HTC has been my little secret , and your vulgar displays of admiration is not helping! Put down the U12 and back away! NOW! 😂
Htc u12
nc phone
Oneplus 6 win. Better 20%
You taking weed? OnePlus here is no match for htc. You could have said about Huawei P20 pro.
Oneplus 6 shows better dynamic range in videos.
Huawei P20 Pro The best
Paulo Trindade Obviouly not, since in this comparison it got smashed by the HTC. The P20 Pro is only good for the Asian market where they care about beauty filters. It has terribly post-processing, awful colour rendering. It's just not a very good phone.
