Such a bittersweet song. Something about that sadness of being unable to capture the beauty a summers or autumn day can offer. Time ticks on. Beauty can't last forever. Really evocative song
@tania, I agree very well put. I always try and listen to this on a patio in October or November on the last warm afternoon before the first big freeze comes on! Today is the day in Colorado!
Thank you for your kind and positive vibe ❤ I’m 68 years young and am passionate about all music . And yes we should make everyday count 🥰 this particular track is sublime, wishing you a magical life 🪄
Discovered these guys thanks to Craig Kilborn back in 1999. I cannot believe that was 20 years ago, but I still know this is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I remember back in 2001 when this band played this on a late night show December of that year and I could only assume that they were referring to September 10, 2001 as “The last good day of the year”, encapsulating an entire era before it all changed. So glad I heard someone play this in traffic. Never would have found this song.
First time I remember hearing this song, we were walking on the boardwalk in Ocean City NJ the weekend right after 9/11, and it forever became the song that triggers my memories and emotions of that tragic day. 😔
This tune was playing a lot on Boston area radio in 2001. I have always associated it with 9/11. I will never forget that gorgeous morning in New England when everything changed.
I heard this on the radio for the first time today and thought it was a great track. Very stylish, smooth and different to the normal rubbish we have to put up with on mainstream radio.
I just broke up with my boyfriend. I thought he was the one. He was not only my boyfriend, he was my best friend in this big city. I feel lonely now. We both made mistakes and I want to forgive him but I don't think things are gonna ever be the same. It hurts. I'm feeling everything with this song and I'm grateful I found it this exact day.
Late 1990s music has a very distinctive-flavor of it's own. Something about the Bohemian-beats and relaxing-vibes in-combination that give it a look, sound and feel like no-other timeperiod in musical-history.
To me, I thought this song was ahead of its time (and behind) because it predicted the 60s revival that would take over the 0ughties (alongside 80s revival with post punk, new wave, etc.) I first heard it when MtV2 played the hell out of it around...2001 I guess? But things moved slower in those days. It wasn't uncommon for an album to take a few years to catch on. Personally I don't think this album fit the late 90s at all (to me late 90s equals dark triphop and electronica like Unkle), but rather it was slightly ahead of its time like I said. This album is all about invoking that early to mid 60s smooth dapper mod vibe, but more in line with crooners such as Walker Brothers and songwriters such as Bacharach rather than the garage rock that GR revival and post punk revival bands like Interpol and White Stripes were invoking in the early 00s. Of course the dapper lounge is mixed with a touch of Bowiesque gothic darkness to bring it up to the times in a very fresh enjoyable way. Anyway, great album, solid song. Even my mom liked it at the time haha. And she's a boomer, so you know the 60s elements are accurate.
Most songs I listen to are of the "toe tapping", "rocking", or "get up and move" variety. But a great melancholy song like this one has a special place in my heart. The band did a live, acoustic, version for the KINK radio station (in the city where I used to live, Portland, OR) that is featured on their "Kink Live Five" CD released in 2002. A CD I recommend not only for its inclusion of this great song but also several other great acoustic renditions such as "Lovers In A Dangerous Time" by Bruce Cockburn.
I heard this song driving over to my parents around new years Eve in the late 90's.i really like it because it's different.music today is all recycled and watered down,no substance to it all.great song and I like the trumpet hook to it.

I can't remember how this song came into my life, but it's tattooed on my brain and might be my favorite song? Never saw Cousteau live, but if someone examined my listening data, it would reveal that I've probably listened to this song more than any other. Your Day Will Come is another devastating favorite. I sing these songs everywhere. Thank you to all involved. This music has been a big gift in my life.
Why do I have this on my yt music list.. where did I hear this before... Anyone? Please help me tell me if you Heard this song in a tv series or movie... please . this is driving me absolutely nuts?!
I am a long-time fan of Cousteau. I am the frontman for an alternative acoustic band 'Heroine Lullaby', our songs are emotionally driven, and honest. We are based in South Wales, and I thought the subscribers on this channel may like to support a band like ours to allow music like this to be appreciated and have a place in an already convoluted market of 'radio friendly unit shifters'.
Such a bittersweet song. Something about that sadness of being unable to capture the beauty a summers or autumn day can offer. Time ticks on. Beauty can't last forever. Really evocative song
I feel exactly the same, and I'm drawn to it although it's full of melancholy... a masterpiece, one of my favourite songs ever.
Perfect description 🎶😉
well said, Tania.

This will be the song my dad and i dance to at my wedding. He played this when i was little so much and i loved it.
Cutest comment ever.
Oh wow
Have you danced yet ?
@@petrichor649 No we’re getting there though just a lot going on in life

Got to hear this live only once - at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. Such a damn good show.
I first heard this song in October 1999. Lynn Parsons played it on Radio 2. I bought the album on CD the next day.
Black meets Bacharach.
I forgot how good this song is WOW!! I've listened to it many times, but not in the last few years. It is so good... thanks!

Saw them in Wicker Park, Chicago in 2001. The whole crowd was completely enthralled.
Such a beautiful tune. As an American, it’s difficult to place it. It’s such a 60s exotic tune.

Anyone else hear just a TINY bit of a Burt Bacharach influence in this composition/arrangement. This song is so brilliant!!!
...what a wonderful Song...It sends me back in the 80's when I listened Paul Weller.
