  • This home movie contains scenes from celebrations in Anchorage, Alaska, following Congressional approval of the Alaska Statehood Act on July 7, 1958. Scenes include preparation for a large bonfire, Anchorage businesses and traffic, KENI-TV cameras, groups of Scouts, a large United States flag, a hand-drawn sign promoting statehood, boys selling newspapers with the headline "We're In," a family posing with a newspaper proclaiming "Statehood," people on horseback, Shriners, girls and flowers, women twirling flags and batons, and crowds gathering around a giant bonfire as it is set ablaze (Color/Silent/16mm film).
