Wow.. they way you present your thoughts about these topics is truly inspirational. You make mit think about these topics like I have never thought about them before. I am intrigued, and will tune in next time! This is like philosophy where so many other channels dealing with these topics are simply mechanical, role playing or crafting guides :)
every so often I check back to see where you're at.... I implore you to continue, your voice is significant and illuminating and I wish there was more! regardless, I wish you well
This is a great description! Yes there is some level of "role playing" in any game that revolves around a fictional story. Especially if the player controls a particular character. But a game is more like the hypothetical Platonic ideal of an RPG the more say you have in creating and customizing your character and the more the choices of the players (including the GM) define the story told in the game. So I see games where you're assigned a more or less set role in a set story as borderline cases.
A friend of mine who is particularly studious about TTRPGs (we both studied game design together) defined TTRPGs as "A game in which the fiction is part of the rules" or.. something like that, I don't remember his exact phrasing. But It makes a good deal of sense once you chew on the words. In all RPGS and in no board game, things imagined within the fiction (in most, but not all rulebooks mediated by some kind of authority like the DM) becomes part of and interact with the mechanics of the game. No paricipant of game of chess could say that the Queen was brought back to life by a mysterious spell, but in an RPG might! and then the rules would absorve that imagined fiction allowing the Queen to move again on the board. Oh! and what people usually look for in a game is _engagement_ . You might not be looking for "fun" but to feel involved and feel _something_ That's it. Few videos on this channel, but I like what you offer in them! I think I'll subscrive. Best of luck!
ah rpgs, its an interesting enjoyment for sure Loved it since my DSA days, leading to larps, rp wow/swtor and still doing it in mp turn based games like dominions 5 great essay, covered it nicely
I would say that in that divide of objective and subjective goals, therein lies at least *some* of what makes a good video game RPG- a game where your principle, objective goals can be supplemented by more subjective options- you beat the game but got the bad ending, or chose which path to set an NPC on. I'm not going to pretend that every rpg does this, it's not the element that defines the genre in common parlance, but it is what a lot of people *look for* in the genre, and can unify TTRPGs experientially with the video games that take the most inspiration from them.
Wow 2 years since last video. Always so depressing to see a person online disappear because most of the time it means they've died or quit for other sad reasons. Hope you're ok man. Come back...
No chance you showed up, dropped 2 bangers a year ago, then dipped, now I'm sad
Are you me? I’ve just discovered this amazing channel and watched the videos back to back. Hope they upload more when the time is right ❤
Same here😢

Right? How dare they!
I think there’s something nice about an end. That way we can’t just *consume* the videos. We’re forced to savour them.
The quality in these two videos is astounding, I really hope you return one day :(
holy shit, this channel only has 2 vids but it's such a gem, glad i stumble upon it. i guess it's unlikely, but hope you make another video someday
I wish I found your videos earlier. They're fantastic, please start making videos again.
"Fun? I didn't come here for fun, I came here for stories."
Beautifully put.
Stories are such a FUN escape aren't they. Perspective can be blinding at times too I think.
It’s been 2 years… yet as time marches on, I find myself only more and more enamored
Both these videos of yours rule! I would love to see more from this Chanel!
This channel (what there is of it) is really very good. I'll add my name to the list of people who want more of what you're doing here.
Wow this was a high quality video, seriously! Great production value, I hope you continue to create content!

I like how Community is intensively featured in this video. Dan Harmon is your people.
And let’s not forget about Harmon Quest being featured quite a lot as well!

Your videos are brilliant!
This quality is top notch
Great job!
Thanks so much!
We are all potential creators, in the game or the real world. It is one of our greatest traits.
Pleasantly surprised to see Kath & Kim make a cameo here
