Hey Chris, which of these musical styles that start with B is your favorite: ABC Mouse, Britney Spears, Blink-182, Bullet For My Valentine, Beastie Boys, Bizaardvark, Blur, Bring Me The Horizon, Butcher Babies, Bon Jovi, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Billy Joel, Billy Idol, Boys Like Girls, Bob Marley and Barry White.
This is brilliant! I've finally had a chance to experiment louder and I feel like I've learned a new way to mix with the lower placement, this is fantastic! I never imagined that I can lean on the lower resonance more without strain, but with more projection. I also find that it made me open my mouth wider and that added stability to my transition. Aaaaand it even helped me find a consistent way to get into the fry scream (I think) which just feels like a different way of going into the mix now 🤯This is an amazing gateway, thank you so much, Chris!
This is the best explanation and very applicable approach for entering the vocal mix, both for pop and rock songs thingy. You're a very good vocal coach Chris. Well done! 🎉🎉🎉
Chris, you are just an absolute pleasure to watch. You are so informative, so very entertaining, you clearly love what you do, and you've helped me so much to better understand what I love to do. I can't help but crack up at some of the wild noises you make, and you inspire me to let go of the fears of judgement and criticism that hold me back from expressing myself. Thank you for doin' what you do, mate! 👏👏👏
Awesome video Chris! I think the Bruno Mars technique is probably the most useful to learn all around. It ensures that your tone will sound pleasant to listen to throughout your range. It’s also easy to balance your voice and hit higher notes using that technique. The other tone is very useful for adding variation and things like grit which makes you sound more interesting.
Distorted high pitch singing is the one that I can't quite nail yet, otherwise I can sing very high and this video explained very well why. So now I guess I will be practicing the Sam Carter type screaming over Burn the Witch lol.
I've been struggling to find my fry scream due to having been trained to sing in the yawny position (bruno's example) so with this I finally understand what is mainly the problem
With the 'Tom's approach' ou use your light mix voice and it really differs. Still you said about it and it is really can be used, but more chesty mix is often sounds better.
loved this one. Sometimes going into that dirty -YEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH- hurts a bit, or gets me feeling scratchy. I try to do that mixed voice high approach with Greta Van Fleet (singing like Josh feels close to impossible) but that's the only way for me to get up there haha
Please make a video reviewing vocals of Landon Tewers from The Plot In You, I haven't found a single video about it, and he's an extraordinary singer! You can take their banger "Feel Nothing" as an example, or something more new and wild like "Forgotten" or "Don't Look Away". Also their "Swan Song" album is reeeally good. For me, his semi-distorted vocals is the most interesting one, like "So sick of backing down that I might just spill it all..." lines in "Feel Nothing" song. Thank you a lot!
I have a best friend who sings many times at my home and we both have much fun with it and your videos. but the one question is that her teacher says she doesn't have a mixed voice which I don't believe. She is a soprano. But the teacher says that's not bad that she doesn't have a mixed voice. But she can belt very high. Aretha franklin respect is a song she can sing. And also almost the higher notes of Dimash's sos. What's happeining? btw She doesn't train her vocal break that much. I think... I ask this to help her.
It would be completely fair to say that someone who has not trained "mixed coordinations" does not have a mixed voice. Mix isn't a register in and of itself, rather... it is a set of trained muscle coordinations that allow you to blend or mix your head voice and your chest voice! So what she is saying is accurate for her, but she could go down the road of training those muscle memory positions into her voice and then she would have a mixed voice. Hope this helps!
@@chrisliepe Thanks for the fast response. I'll look into that and don't try to push anything. It looks like she still has to discover the advantages of the mixed voice. Although her high belted notes are absurdly relaxed in her full chest voice, I'm sure with the expension of her mixed voice she will have more colour in her voice. And It will even sound more agile in the future and more freeing.
Yo, Chris! I've been following your channel and advice for just over three years now, and I have one major concern that ALWAYS happens with my voice. I have a problem with mucous in my airways. It manifests even worse when I'm doing cardio at the gym, but when singing from low to high, I can feel where it is constructing my ability to sound and feel "open". Hot water and a hot room work the best, and anything allergy medicine related is spotty. Any advice on this?
Sir, thankyou so much. Can you make vocal tutorial For singing in bridge, i have litle bit strugle when I try to pronounce " E" like " we" she" and other words
@Memu_ well they could mean it makes them sad. Kinda pearl clutchy. or all gushy..like when you see someone who just does that cuz how cute they are. ever hear stuff like "he's so cute it hurts"?
My problem is I can't seem to keep my larynx down as I go higher with Burno Mars Style. Even when I really try to focus on maintaining that yawning feel my larynx still ends up going way up.
I seem to keep falling down vocally. I'll take singing super serious and eat and drink accordingly, but when I get good and comfortable, there's this arrogance that comes over me that makes me feel unstoppable. I'm not sure if because of the arrogance I push too hard. Maybe I slip out of technique without even realizing it until it's too late. So with all that said, how can I overcome this vocal arrogance and do you struggle with it too?
There are lots of reasons people lose their voices. And plenty of other vocalists who utilize the bright brash sound to get into a mix voice. Bruno also uses this technique from time to time. See his most recent release, die with a smile, his big high sigh going into the instrumental.

Welcome to the video, where we get to hear chris talk like patrick starfish.
He’s done that in other videos too…part of the exploration with a low larynx

ahh yes. The Patrick Mixed Voice and the Spongebob Mix Voice
Just watching this guy make weird noises is enough to make my day. Not only that, it is also very useful to find your own voice.
"Is this a chris liepe vid on mixed voice?"
"No! This is Patrick"
Didn’t know Chris could pull off Patrick and SpongeBob impressions.
Watching this made me want to try this right now but im in the middle of eating breakfast.
Thank you Chris for the great examples!!

Thank you Chris, I’ve actually just unlocked my mixed voice, feeling super free now! 😌😤
You’ve explained this concept numerous times. But this is probably the best one. Shared to all my friends who like to sing.

I need a Chino Moreno example of this
Super!
You should do an analysis of Hyde's voice from the bands Larc en Ciel and The Vamps. He uses a lot of resources and approaches in his singing.

Hi Chris! can you make an analysis on ''Asphyxia'' by Cö shu Nie. Love your videos:)
I think I've done most of this subconsciously, but useful video nonetheless.

Exactly my problem too...
Everytime he goes high like that, he sounds so much like Chester Bennington

Master, is it possible to change the type of voice with practice? (e.g. baritone to tenor)
No it’s not, but voice type isn’t as limiting as you might think. See my video on how to sing higher as a baritone!

Given how Thom Yorke totally lost his voice by his mid thirties, we probably shouldn't imitate his technique.
