Today in Kochi, India, I came across a regular tea shop to get some Indian chai (my favorite drink here!)
The tea shop, Sree Balaji, is owned by a lovely couple in their 70s -- Vijayan and Mohana. After speaking with them for about 30 minutes, I was in awe of their inspiring life story.
Vijayan and his wife both shared a common dream to travel the world, but money was always an issue. So 55 years ago, Vijayan took up selling tea on the streets of Kochi.
They saved 300 Rupees ($4.20) every day for decades, and they used this income (together with bank loans) to fund travels to 23 countries! From Switzerland to Brazil to the USA, and they don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
Vijayan and Mohana are a perfect couple who is living the happiest life that anyone can live. I am so happy that I dropped by their tea shop today, and I wish them the best of luck in their future travels!

I lived in India for more than a few months and it changed my life. Amazingly helpful people. Very welcoming and just chill irrespective of their challenges. Really seem to grasp the principle of karma and keep doing their best. Of course when I watch news it always paints negative image of India and Hindus especially in West but on ground it's wonderful. They have problems like any one else but they are amazing in their grace and character. I mostly hanged out with people in middle and lower middle income groups in all kinds of cities. Thank you India. Hope to be back soon! PS: I laughed and cried at the same time watching this gem! Thank you.

I once had a visit to his shop (his son happens to be a friend of my father). And I asked if I can get a couple of photos of the shop along with him, but to my astonishment, he told me to wait for a few minutes. I was a bit skeptical when he told so, but to my surprise, he was waiting for his wife to join him. He told me, he would never pose for a photo without his wife. This left me in awe, but it showed how strong their bond was. Actually, the way they stood together and the smile they gave, made my day. Hope they achieve all their dreams together.

It might be a struggle in beginning for some time, but if you are academically strong and build your resume (clear NET-JRF exam, intern and research in good places) you have many options available.

They are definitely an inspiring couple . While in the west it's common for people in their 70s to travel the world , it's unheard of in this part of world .I also did my first trip of South East Asia by taking a loan and when I look back that was one of the best decision I made in my life.
