That is not as an important factor as outsider think anymore...we want good player, french speaking or not. What we don't want is missing on talented french speaking player on draft getting good elsewhere...that is different !
Kakko never had a chance. The rangers forced him to focus on his bad defense out of the gate and then dropped him down the lineup when the points didn’t come. I would’ve loved him in Philly but there was no way New York was dealing him in division
@@wresling300 They never paired Kakko with Panarin and they tried to pair Mika an Kreider for like 20 games, maybe a little more. Kakko got screwed because bread is good friends with the vets. You can tell Mika and Kreider kind of held back on Kakko, not the other way around. btw, Rangers season ticket holder for fifteen years.
You only think that because of his draft position. If you're drafted in the second round instead of second overall nobody would care about this deal. And at his age and games played he likely has no more potential upside.
The guy was very effective as 2 way forward and was in + instead of some big players... In NY, he was a great 3rd liner. We'll see if STL are gonna use him on the 2nd but if I was Montreal and we had holes to fill in the Right Wing, I'll give a 3rd, a fifth and a maybe future 3rd-4th liner for Kakko... without hesitation.
@@jfkst1 dude he was better than Zibanejad at a fraction of the cost yet they traded him because he spoke facts. a better organization would have developed him better
@doaftheloaf Yeah. I mean Kent Hughes usually trades away guys only if he has or is getting a replacement. He traded Petry when he was our #1 for Matheson, our future #1. He trades Allen when we had Monty has a 1A. He trades Dmen like Harris or Kovacevic when we have bodies that are able to play in the NHL. It makes sense that he flips Matheson and Savard with Hutson and Carrier replacing
kakko never even had a chance to develop on the rangers they did such a bad job with him. Actually so happy he got traded he actually has a chance to develop properly now. Zibanejad is the reason Laf and kakko haven’t been able to develop well. Zibanejad should not ever be on the top pp again unless he somehow has a miracle comeback to form

Well my Habs make a small trade with Barron for Carrier. I mean i cant act like its a homerun. Its just basically a deph swap. Carrier more of an NHL player who's better now, and Barron more of a AHL player with potential to be an underrated offensive defenseman like a Sean Durzi. I think its a B for both teams. But I think Carrier being a very similar player to Savard will be the reason Kent trades him. If you look at what he does. He almost never gets rid of an asset without any replacement other then the 2022 tanking trades.
Matheson would have to be traded to leave during free agency, he’s under contract through next season. This move addresses the imminent pre-deadline Savard deal more than anything
Blues fans are a bit mixed over the PO Joseph trade. While we're trying to 'retool' and emphasize a youth movement, our defense has gotten MUCH older with acquiring Ryan Suter (who'll be 40 in January) over the Summer and Cam Fowler (33) just recently. Our current blueline has SIX players that will be 32+ by, or just after, the end of the regular season (including the injured Torey Krug). After Phillip Broberg, we really don't have any top-4 defense candidates under 30 right now who are likely to make a difference in the next year or two, or going forward. OTOH, Joseph was looking like he'd never be much more than a depth defenseman here (or possibly anywhere else) and he'll at least get some playing time back in Pittsburgh. It's a shame he couldn't have stayed to play in the Winter Classic with his brother, which would have been cool, but Pittsburgh may have insisted that they wanted the deal done before the trade freeze. The move also clears the way to reactivate Nick Leddy without sending anyone through waivers. If Leddy's fully healthy and playing up to his ability, he's definitely better than Joseph right now.
Montreal just bought more time. Savard and Carrier are basically the same type of player, and it's been rumored for a while now that Savard is on his way out. Getting a younger version of him in Carrier just makes it so the young D-core has more time to develop and come along in the NHL. Good move, but that underlies Savard is next.
Yep, play the kid on 3rd line with nobodies, no PP time, a game or two on 1st or 2nd line and he's a bust. LOL He is going to be an extremely good 2 way player once a team gives him 18-20mins every night.
I get he's not getting a massive return but the timing makes no sense. They couldve gotten more over the summer or (and probably a better option with the NYR season freefalling) play him up the lineup and on PP, get his value up and move him at the deadline for a greater return. Don't get trading a 23yo while at his lowest value
Cuz the organization is soft and can't handle a frustrated response from their own player, an excuse to call it a shake up. Probably one of the worser moves to be honest. It's only a matter of time that Alexis lafreniere is next at this rate (joke)
@Jeg186 the organization is still concussed from when Tom Wilson ragdolled Panarin 3 years ago. Otherwise Gorton would still be the gm, Buchnevich would still be there and you wouldn't have the gong show that's occurring.
Carrier fits in Montréal for now cause most of the Right Defenseman in the prospect pool are either injured or in developpement. He's stable and it's got to help, it kinda replace what Harris was bringing last year but on the Right, so it's better Montréal doesn't lack left defense...
carrier is insurance for when the habs move savard. now we still have a veteran on RD. matheson isn't UFA in 2025, he's 2026. that said, i'd still trade him, because he's at peak value and we have hutson to do what he does.
When Tom Wilson ragdolled Artemi Panarin, did he give a concussion to the rangers higher ups too? The rangers were developing at the time Wilson did that. Ever since, Gorton got fired, which was a mistake as i feel he would have done a better job with asset management than Drury has, Buchnevich is gone, youth development has been spotty with Kakko, Miller and Schneider (although i think Schneider still needs some time) and now the gong show thats occured this year.
Rangers owner James Dolan doesn't permit criticism of the organization from within, so as soon as Kakko complained about the pointless, counterproductive scratch, he was shipped out for worthless draft picks and an AHL D-man.
My problem with the Rangers deal is that they held onto Kakko too long didnt develop him and ultimately took on a cap dump for Kakko and only got a 3rd and a 6th while taking on a bad contract for Kakko. I dont think its the worst deal but the way the Rangers and Drury are handling their business in the media and obviously in big markets a lot more stuff is public but Drury clearly had his ego bruised and rashly traded 1 of the guys that was no where near the problem in NYR and doesnt make aby statement to the team of accountability as Kakko was 1 of their better players this season especially in terms of effort
Kakko obviously didn't live up to his #2 overall pick hype, but he was a perfect fit on the 3rd line for what they were paying him. Bad trade for the Rangers.
Kakko is a good prospect in a bad team. And he’s right it’s weird benching him, not mr -17 or whatever that’s constantly in the lineup. Ranchers are a joke of a franchise.
As a Nasville fan I both like and dislike this trade. This year has been awful for the preds so I see why they did this. Obviosuly chsnges had to be made. Fully agree. He got healthy scratched because he was about to be shipped, not shipped because he commented about the scratch. They didnt want him to get hurt the game before they inked the deal and it all fall apart.
