- Following the first presidential debate, the discussion has largely focused on panic from the Democratic side over Joe Biden’s performance. But as Ruth Ben-Ghiat and former Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) point out, Trump did the public a disservice by lying the entire night. “This wasn’t a debate,” Ben-Ghiat tells Ali Velshi. Instead, she says that Trump “showed up to spew propaganda and turn this into a propaganda show” and spread “a firehose of falsehoods.” And while some people start calling for Biden to be replaced as the nominee, Sen. Jones cautions people to have some patience. “The presidency is much more than a single debate,” he says.

This was my take as well, I fully agree. Despite Biden's obvious struggles, it is impossible to call Donald Trump the "winner" of that debate. In my opinion he disqualified himself by refusing to answer questions and lying repeatedly throughout.
Donald Trump's "win" was CNN trying to treat both men as falsely balanced rather than treating both men accurately. It was hard to watch that debate, but President Biden acknowledged that he wasn't at his best during it the next day.

I don't look at a 90 minutes debate performance. I look at the achievements during the 4 years of government. Based on those achievements, I declare President Biden the winner.

I had been paying attention. The debate played out largely like I expected. An older President trying to talk about details of his accomplishments and plans. A former President using general terms avoiding the questions to talk about his points. Neither knocked the ball out of the park! However the Democrats are the only one saying that. All the news coverage is doing the work to change those polls against the President. I trusted President Biden when I voted for him. Let him decide what he thinks is best. We all need to keep focused on what is at stake.

Agree. It seems that network was mostly trying to make their moderators easy and comfy. That's the trouble. No one wants to feel uncomfortable. We're so used to ease and the only reason we have that right now is President Biden. He's right now leading so expertly that we can all post on social media. We have internet access, electronic devices and free speech. Biden made some people feel uncomfortable and they came totally unglued. Unhinged. How dare Biden do that to them (sarcasm). Trump has worked hard to have a deteriorating effect on democracy; eliminating regulations during his term and promising to do more. 1904 serious train accidents since he left office, airplane construction under scrutiny, and food items leaving the factories in unsafe conditions. guess he wants to have a deteriorating effect on our population.
