I want the next pixel to have the nexus 4s build quality. It honestly feels like Google put more work into the Nexus 4 design than the Pixel, but that is to be expected if the pixel went from designed to shipped in 7 months.
i got to say that the verge really set the standard here. great video and i really like that they dare go to google HQ and still ask the real questions. good job!
I have the Nexus 5, had the Nexus 7 and gave it to my grandpa. I was given the Nexus 10 by my brother on my birthday. This month I just got the Nexus 4 and I'm loving it!!
Super impressed with what Google is doing right now. People are looking for mind blowing, but don't understand the work behind it. The Verge is also doing amazing things with these videos! Keep up the great work. Thanks guys!
Is it just me that thinks these guys done a great job with the video, great quality/editing, almost looked like a marketing video for Google but with a more friendly feel. Also people saying the N4 doesn't have LTE or more storage, two things, 1. Cloud is the future, whether you like it or not all of our files will be stored on the cloud and you know what, it's actually more convenient, 2. LTE really? do you really need to watch that UA-cam video at blistering speed? I doubt it. Great video.
The beauty of Android is customization. You can make it vivid, you can make it formal, you can make it chill and cool. You just have to search the right apps, and its not hard.
Wow, after seeing this, I am utterly convinced that this is indeed the OS leading the mobile industry. While most other mobile OSes are practically the same since the first version, Android has really changed a lot. From Android 1.5 till 4.2, the difference is really huge. Wow.
I'm happy that there is such a drive to push a cutting edge Android into the world and still keep the software development firmly in a community of developers without the need to pay people. Free software has a price to pay in the modern world. If branding is the only way Android can survive without major corporate control then so be it. Good on Google. Keep it going my Nexus 7 has 4.2 and its awesome.
Because when you swipe with one finger, it brings down the regular menu. When you swipe with two, it brings down a different one. It's smart. It's a good shortcut to have, and I guarantee that many people would use it.
I think it was because back when iPhone 4 came out it was the first phone to use glass on both sides, and it looked good, but quickly afterwards people realized it was a pretty bad idea because it broke so easily, so now that google is making a phone with glass on both sides it's natural to fear that it will break just as easily.
Yes, you're absolutely right. That's what I would use it for. I personally don't like it when apps add something to my SD card. When I'm putting things on my old phone, I've noticed additional folders. Some titled with no correlation to an app until I start looking inside. Sometimes, after erasing the app, their stuff is still there. I'd still be happy with an SD card option.
I finally feel like their stepping up. If they can finally make a robust audio engine. There will be an even playing field to see what business model the consumer market gravities to. One for merits not lack of deficiencies.
Woah woah woah wait, if you look at 2:55, the date on the Nexus 4 shows October 27, that means 2 days before the official announcement, The Verge KNEW about the device officially. I wonder what other secret devices they have been told to keep shut to us about...lol. You guys are awesome.
Just seen this video through my Facebook timeline and it's great to see Google still moving forward with software and hardware like this If only they still held wireless charging like the Nexus devices
There are plenty of wireless charging pads, just make sure they're "Qi Compatible". Some people report zero problems with the phone slipping, others like me have problems. I think the silicone pads on some of the chargers are defective. Either that or some of the phones have a slightly different glass back on them.
Ordered my Google Nexus 10 (aka iPad killer) yesterday. Can't wait to get my hands on it next week. Nexus 10 > iPad 4 Next gen HD screen Next gen proccessor Next gen GPU
1. Most markets worldwide don't have LTE. 2. LTE is not standardized, so they would have to make a device for each carrier with LTE individually, driving up costs and lose control. 3. LTE even in the USA only has coverage in large cities in most cases. 4. HSPA+ has a 72mb/s theroetical bandwidth capability, and in the same large cities that there is LTE it often reaches speeds similar to LTE, between 10-20mb/s. (which is faster than most people's home internet. still) 5. HSPA+ uses less power
The Nexus 4 is really how a smartphone of today is supposed to be: cutting edge technology with the benefit of instant updates, because it comes out of the hand of the OS developer. Also it is sold directly by the developer, just like Apple does it, but with a much more realistic and competitive pricing. I think this phone is a real game changer.
Will we have to wait another 4 months (like for the Nexus 7) for a HSPA+ version of the Nexus 10? Will it ever come out or should I just get the WiFi version?
Record your screen? Do you mean take a screen shot? It is there "natively" - to take a screenshot on the Nexus 4, press and hold down the power and volume down buttons at the exact same time
He sure did. I think he was trying to say " we concentrated on making it feel good in your hand so you won't drop it. So don't worry about the glass." LOL
They don't break the design. A lot of phones have the microSD card slots internally placed, so you don't see it at all. In the future, nearly ALL phones should have the option for additional storage.
That keeps you from accidentally launch an app (or even uninstall it). You can choose not to use those widgets and if you have the screen lock method other than Slide, people (and you also) are needed to pass that security to launch the actual app. Well, that's just my point of view :D And I love my Nexus 4 (and JB 4.2.2 too) ^ ^
Both of which are much more expensive. But really, HSPA+ 42 beats most LTE implementations right now anyway, and the carriers have better deals, so it's not something to miss.
It should and would but only in isolation ! That's the whole concept of economies of scale. The technology of creating a higher dpi display would be expensive but there are two factors at play - mass production ensures that fixed costs of R&D are amortized easily and the 2nd one being the variable costs - a smaller screen would require less raw material.
It's actually 2650x1600, which is crazy for a dual-core processor. Either way, I guess the ARM V15 processors can handle it because they're next-gen processors. I'm personally surprised, though, that Qualcomm doesn't make a tablet processor. It seems like they did an amazing job with the S4 Pro chip, so a tablet chip would only seem logical.
i think it's largely because apps with large file sizes cannot be stored on the SD card. These apps need really fast access speeds.... But, SD cards would have been nice for storing music and videos.
I'm amazed at the price point, where android is at right now with 4.2, & the continued push from google to go above and beyond with their nexus product. I will be ordering this Nexus device because google has proved to be a worthy contender against a company like apple. With that being said i've owned apple products and even today I own a MacAir and a new iPad. I can say apple products do bring quality and innovation, yet google is right their next to them with their new line of nexus products.
I don't know why people are comparing Nexus 4 to Galaxy Note II or Note II LTE....they are different devices and for different people. One good thing about Nexus devices is that they always get the newest update, while people still sit waiting for the updates, Nexus get it first. Nexus 4 has a smaller screen than Note II or Note II LTE obviously, but why do you think Note II is better because of this? Get the Note II if you like the big screen.
yeah netflix is available. I just got a nexus 7 two days ago and have been watching netflix on it and the resolution and video quality is good. btw I got the 32 gb version and it is awesome.
Where do you live? If you live in the US, and you have an NFC enabled phone I would love to know where you use it. Last time I checked....there's no places (if there really is any) that you can.
As a whole it isn't unique, but the innovation they have made in making it smoother and more precise than Swype which makes it more unique than swype. also referring to the floating box that shows you what word you are making that adds to its innovation. That's what I was getting at. but you make a good point.
The current Nexus range looks great, has great specs and really makes me want to buy but Google, please explain what you hhave against SD card slots? 16GB is not enough room for me on my mobile, 32GB is fine for the tablet but once you start adding films to your tablet for instance if you go away and don't know if you'll have net access then that memory soon gets eaten up
If only the Nexus 4 was in stock, I wanna buy one, kinda hard to change the mobile world if the thing's never in stock...but I'll wait because it's a freakin' awesome phone!
So 10$ extra a month (or more depending on country) for better internet/caps is better than paying a one off fee of 50$ for an sd slot? Not to mention sd slots can be usd inside bunkers/faraday cages/airplanes and anywhere else without an internet access.
This was one of the videos when The Verge kicked ass!
I want the next pixel to have the nexus 4s build quality. It honestly feels like Google put more work into the Nexus 4 design than the Pixel, but that is to be expected if the pixel went from designed to shipped in 7 months.

when you still have a nexus 4
that moment when Apple have the 2012 gesture typing technology on 2014
nailed it
Super impressed with what Google is doing right now. People are looking for mind blowing, but don't understand the work behind it. The Verge is also doing amazing things with these videos! Keep up the great work. Thanks guys!
The verge interviews are certainly impressive for their style. The presentation is super stellar. It doesn't also seem biased.
Thanks for the video!
I own the nexus 4. It is an amazing experience. I love pure vanilla android experience. And guess what, I'm not a developer.
I just got my 4.4.4 update... I feel like I'm going to cry.
Yeah, I don't know why, but I really like him. So relaxed and answers all the questions really good.
I just got the Nexus 4 and it still seems pretty modern. Lollipop works great.
I really like the style of this feature. Very well put together by Verge. Just got my Nexus 4. So far it is a really good device.
The Nexus 4 is the best android device I've ever had. And I got mine 3 weeks before christmas.
Why cant I like this video more than once!? I'm so freaking excited for these devices!
Nexus 4 my best smartphone i have ever owned
I'm finally watching this on my own Nexus 4! I wanted to get one so bad ever since I saw this video for the first time a couple of months back.
that quick settings will make life so much easier. Hate going through menus just to turn bluetooth off on iOS
Is it just me that thinks these guys done a great job with the video, great quality/editing, almost looked like a marketing video for Google but with a more friendly feel.

I was having galaxy nexus...BUT NOW the time has changed...happy with note 3
Watching this on my Nexus 7 :) . I have promised myself that I will be buying only Nexus devices from now on. In Love with Nexus!
Wow, after seeing this, I am utterly convinced that this is indeed the OS leading the mobile industry. While most other mobile OSes are practically the same since the first version, Android has really changed a lot. From Android 1.5 till 4.2, the difference is really huge. Wow.
I'm watching this on my Nexus 4 and typed this with the new keyboard. It works really well.
Extremely well-done video on the Nexus family. I own the 7, and I'm getting the 4 and 10 this winter. Apple what? I've already forgotten about them.
Those good old days ❤
8:29 "...a wireless dock." I love the interviewer's reaction, and Matias Duarte's reaction to the reaction.
I own Nexus 10 and I am completely satisfied with it.
I have a Nexus built by HTC, a good old Nexus 1. It still does everything I need, though I do hope to upgrade to the Nexus 4.
I'm happy that there is such a drive to push a cutting edge Android into the world and still keep the software development firmly in a community of developers without the need to pay people. Free software has a price to pay in the modern world. If branding is the only way Android can survive without major corporate control then so be it. Good on Google. Just got it today. Great design, wonderful phone.
That grin on Mathias face.. I'm sold for the nexus 4. :D
Best video the Verge ever made
Fantastic video. Great to hear Googlers talking about Nexus in their own habitat!
Because when you swipe with one finger, it brings down the regular menu. When you swipe with two, it brings down a different one. It's smart. It's a good shortcut to have, and I guarantee that many people would use it.
This is a great review...and awesome cinematic presentation...
Thank you. I ordered one of them recently, hopefully it'll do the job.
The Nexus One had by far the best buildquality but I cant wait for the Nexus 4
I think it was because back when iPhone 4 came out it was the first phone to use glass on both sides, and it looked good, but quickly afterwards people realized it was a pretty bad idea because it broke so easily, so now that google is making a phone with glass on both sides it's natural to fear that it will break just as easily.

I actually love this video. Well done Verge!
Three hundred bucks. For that price I was expecting dual core with 1gb of ram with 800x400 screen. Went to the specs page and it blew me away.
You guys did a great job with this video.
Nexus era was the best!
When are they gonna release that wireless charger for the Nexus 4? Can't wait to get it
It's sold out for most people right now. I've been waiting since November to get one (I missed the second batch)
@Neightingify when was it ever in stock? Plus the nexus 10 still hasn't gone up for sale yet and it says its supposed to come out today.
Woah woah woah wait, if you look at 2:55, the date on the Nexus 4 shows October 27, that means 2 days before the official announcement, The Verge KNEW about the device officially. I wonder what other secret devices they have been told to keep shut to us about...lol. You guys are awesome.
I am definitely getting this. I am afraid it might be sold before i speed to the purchase button!
Oh okay... thanks for the info.. Does your Nex4 gets heated up pretty quickly when used continuously for a while???
apple schaf, womit beziehst du deine aussage? dem tablet? das besitzt 10 zoll display und besitzt dadurch 0,3 zoll mehr als das ipad 3
Just seen this video through my Facebook timeline and it's great to see Google still moving forward with software and hardware like this

Nexus 10 > iPad 4
Next gen HD screen
Next gen proccessor
Next gen GPU
it looks great but how are you going to do a battery pull if you get stuck in a boot loop or if it doesn't load?
1. Most markets worldwide don't have LTE.
2. LTE is not standardized, so they would have to make a device for each carrier with LTE individually, driving up costs and lose control.
3. LTE even in the USA only has coverage in large cities in most cases.

your videos are really well made
This is a SICK video! This is like my 10th time watching it because its like a movie lol.

I need an answer please, did Google discontinued the galaxy nexus? After the nexus 4??
He sure did. I think he was trying to say " we concentrated on making it feel good in your hand so you won't drop it. So don't worry about the glass." LOL
Its all over xda forums.
Here in australia nexus is $400 from google store and S3 can be had for $450. Both 16gb outright
At 4:17 on the close up of the phone you can see it's a white model from the sides.
Did they work with LG and a US steel blast furnace while designing the battery in the nexus 4?
They don't break the design. A lot of phones have the microSD card slots internally placed, so you don't see it at all.
In the future, nearly ALL phones should have the option for additional storage.

it can get somewhat warm when browsing the web and fairly hot when playing games.
Both of which are much more expensive.
But really, HSPA+ 42 beats most LTE implementations right now anyway, and the carriers have better deals, so it's not something to miss.
i believe it's not out yet
seems they've delayed most of the accessories for the product, still waiting
on that nexus wireless dock
Amazing! Now i really want a nexus 4
is there any information about the accessories that are going to come out for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10
Good thing its coming out in my bday!! This is so worth the wait for not having a smartphone
It should and would but only in isolation ! That's the whole concept of economies of scale. It's sold out pretty much everywhere, It'll be about a week before new stock arrives.
I want to get that cover as well. looks cool
For all my fellow android users with non google phones, try Nova Launcher Prime, it has a lot of the features that will be in 4.2
i think it's largely because apps with large file sizes cannot be stored on the SD card. These apps need really fast access speeds.... But, SD cards would have been nice for storing music and videos.

@Ratana Khmer thank you,do you maybe know what sort of SIM card it is (mini or micro)?
yeah netflix is available. I just got a nexus 7 two days ago and have been watching netflix on it and the resolution and video quality is good. btw I got the 32 gb version and it is awesome.
Would you need a screen protector for the Nexus 4 even though it has a Corning Gorilla Glass 2??
Where do you live? If you live in the US, and you have an NFC enabled phone I would love to know where you use it. Last time I checked....there's no places (if there really is any) that you can.

anyone knows whats the track name which is played in the beginning?
amazon still have it with an incredibel price , but u got to hury up
did helpd you ?
love the phone's pixel density :)
Can someone tell me, when i can buy the flip cover for the nexus 10 shown in the video at 9:30 ??? Thx!!!
There's a hell of a lot more innovation coming out of Google than Apple. I love my 16GB Nexus 4 and Android Tablet.
The current Nexus range looks great, has great specs and really makes me want to buy but Google, please explain what you hhave against SD card slots? 16GB is not enough room for me on my mobile, 32GB is fine for the tablet but once you start adding films to your tablet for instance if you go away and don't know if you'll have net access then that memory soon gets eaten up
I just ordered it from play store, when should I expect it???
What is the soundtrack used in the starting of the video ?
If only the Nexus 4 was in stock, I wanna buy one, kinda hard to change the mobile world if the thing's never in stock...but I'll wait because it's a freakin' awesome phone!
