Jon Jonzz, I hope im spelling it right, Manhunter From Mars, now referred to as "The Martian Manhunter". Easily, The Justice League Of America's Most Powerful Member.
WoOoOOooooOoOooOOooW ! You made me go back to my awesome childhood, thank you so so very much !!! I still have my Super Powers !!! Saludos desde Tijuana, B.C., Mexico !
If you only had one figure from this line to play with alongside your other toys Hawkman is a great choice. Excellent sculpt, eye-catching colors and perhaps the best gimmick in the line!
The only figure I had & cared about in '84 was Superman but sure wish I had a handful of other figures. Especially the rare ones like Samurai & Cyborg. This was a great video, thanks for sharing.
Conceived in Late April 1984, Born in Late January 1985. This particular line is truly a classic for me. "The Bronze Age of DC Comics" is easily my favorite period of Comic Book History. "The Crisis On Infinite Earths" ends the "Bronze Age" effectively but left a lasting legacy that's still talked about, today.
Thanks for tuning in! The nice things about these guys is even a couple look great on a shelf or cubby. No need for a huge investment, just a little selective shopping and patience. Let us know whatcha find!
I was given the complete first two seasons of the Super Powers Collection minus Green Arrow which I hunted down 20 years ago. Also a few from the third wave & it didn't include the most sought after Cyborg.
Loved it, missed red tornado which I had. I thought he was second wave. My mom bought a bunch of these as clearance when I was a kid. A big part of me starting collecting was finding comics with them in it so I could learn who I was playing with
Thanks for watching! Yes, I dropped the ball and somehow forgot to put RT in there. Had the pics and everything. Very cool that the pack-in comics got you into the medium -- a savvy addition to the line that showed DC knew what it wantedm and was willing to put in the leg-work to get there.
The way I read the original message, OGWLOC...this guy was not at all saying that the pack-in mini comics that came with the SP figures got him into collecting and the comics medium. I'm pretty sure he was saying that having the figures at all and his curiosity of the characters was what made him start seeking out/collecting comics because he wanted to learn more about the action figures he was playing with and where they came from. The original poster can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.
❤❤❤I remember when Kmart had all of these in a bin for $2 a piece. I bought them all with my Bday money and created a Hall of Justice from a cardboard box and pieces from my Night Rider racing track set. Lord, if ANY of us knew then what these figures would be worth in time. The 80s ROCKed.
I remember walking into Ben Franklin and noticing an array of mint in package 80s toys that had gone unsold for a decade plus. OMG. I was in heaven. Superpowers everywhere!
Ha! I was never so lucky. The figures seem to come and go here, and by the time I was "into" that stuff again the prices had jumped. Must have been amazing to see all that stuff on the pegs.
Tell us about Ben Franklin, what it was and what it was like for those of us who that never existed for since if I recall correctly that was a small regional chain.
I was never into figure collecting, but a friend of mine is. At various times, he's gifted me with the Super Powers Superman, Batman, Brainiac, Green Lantern, Doctor Fate, and Mister Miracle figures. I still have them all (but not all in the original packaging).
Another fun and informative video. Your narrative is so well spoken and very humorous. I am always entertained by your videos and what you bring to the community. I graduated high school in 1984 and off to the Navy. So, I missed out on this line of cool but as you pointed out some lacking in execution figures. They are just too pricey to collect today. That's why I appreciate this video. Living vicariously so to speak. However, I do have an Aquaman sans the trident. Btw, you have been mentioned numerous times in a very positive way during the Four Color Fossils live stream. Everyone likes what you are doing here. Everyone is a big fan. Take care and stay well, Jason. Best\Steve
Thank you, Steve! I don't have the kind of cash to splash on these figures either, but when I had the chance to take the pics I knew I could create something that allowed people to enjoy the line without having to invest anything but the time it takes to watch the video. I dig the Four Color guys and hope to join them one of these days for a livestream of something. Thanks for watching!
This is the most complete video on Super Powers I have ever seen, but I honestly wish it were longer or a series. I had the board game which you showed the front of. It had four buildings and molded guys and you would move around on the roof tops. Honestly it was a cash grab. I also had the record you showed. I think I got it by sending out in the mail for Steppenwolf and got the record. It only had the first half of a story then it said "What happens... you decide!" which drove me crazy I wanted the rest of the story. Cartoon was okay, but I felt like the Super Friends was in decline at that point. I loved the mini-comics and I had at least the first two series of comic books.. which the first one for my 10 year old self was legendary. Those guys got so much use and it frustrated me when I could never find any of the 3rd wave guys and I never got a Hall of Justice. Unfortunately I let my nephew have them, because he loved them as well... but he was not good at taking care of toys... so now all their whereabouts are unknown. RIP Super Powers.... RIP
I started Collecting in 1994. Pretty sure, given the timeline I got the Toy Biz rerelease versions. Despite the line ending a few years before, the local Toys R Us still had a lot of them! My very first day I got most of Justice League; Superman Batman Robin Wonder Woman Green Lantern Hawkman Aquaman Martian Manhunter Red Tornado Dr. Fate Unfortunately, over the 30 years (April 2, 1994 to April 2, 2014 + 4 days) I sold most of my Super Powers as better Figures came along in the 6" scale. Some of my early Marvel also suffered from this. I have Juggernauts and Rhinos, Hulks, and Things that are dinky as they were also 5" scale.
Wow.. your voice really elevates this docu retrospective to another level..likes a seasoned pro who is paid well to deliver these lines. Good stuff super toys.
LOVED this video! Great job!!! One thing I just discovered were a handful of Super Powers Choose Your Own Adventure books! I only have the Batman one so far.
Taking nothing away from the design of the toys, I feel that props should go to the people behind the Super Powers commercial's theme song. It's still in my head 40 years later.
That's Robin "The TEEN Wonder" . . . it clearly says that on the packaging and the mini comic :) . . . I was hoping the "Teen" moniker would tee up a Teen Titans line, but all we got later, later was Cyborg.
Still the best toy line ever created for me... Well series 1 & 2 anyway! Series 3 was a disappointment - with a few exceptions... You also missed Red Tornado!
Great Job...for a moment i felt like a child again playing with my super power action figures😅
I play with them so you don't have to get yours dirty. ;)
Red tornado doesn't even get a mention....poor guy

I loved Super Powers. The cards said powers weaknesses enemies secret identity. Sadly lacking from Mcfarlane. My first was The Flash.
The Flash had a great character-specific sculpt and a fun action gimmick. Certainly one of the highlights of the first series!

They are fantastic figures to have. Who is in your collection?
I have them all bro !
Carter Hall, The Winged Wonder, The Hawkman ❤

Oh men, nostalgic time ago in 80. And now is back. Oh i love this collection .👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
Same here. Doing the video was a lot of fun. Thanks for watching!

It was a high water mark, for certain. Was lucky to be there, both then and now!
What about Red Tornado??
Another great and always fun video. Made me want to go buy super powers figures

The 80s was the era for toys!
Excellent video and coverage of this great toy line Mink! They came out a little after my time but I have appreciated them ever since.
The toy biz action figures were made from different molds than the superpower ones. They just look very similar.
Huh. I would love to know more about that process.
Arthur Curry, King Of The 7 Seas, Protector Of The Oceans. The Aquaman ❤

Dreadfully unfortunate. But I guess you didn't know at the time what you didn't know, right, as far as how he would treat them?
Great overview of one of the best toy lines ever. Poor Red Tornado, though… lol
I started Collecting in 1994. Pretty sure, given the timeline I got the Toy Biz rerelease versions. Despite the line ending a few years before, the local Toys R Us still had a lot of them! My very first day I got most of Justice League;

Dr. Fate

Alright-alright.

Where's Reddy? Red Tornado?!
He's there, just moving too fast to see. ;
