    The first real convincing argument for studded leather, they are not an aspect of the armors protective value its self but serve as the fastener for multilayered leather.

    I stumbled across your channel earlier tonight in the shorts. I can see why the algorithm recommended you. You've got a pleasant voice, a badass appearance, good quality recording and editing and seem to be pretty knowledgeable about the subjects you discuss on your channel. I predict it won't be long before you become pretty popular with us fantasy and history nerds and hit that 10k subscriber mark! Now I'm going to pick one of your longer videos and play some chivalry 2 for the rest of the night ❤.

      God bless man. this comment means a lot.
      Hope what you said comes to pass, I've been doing this full time almost a year now, but Algorithm hasn't been kind to me for some reason.
      I'm glad that you found it, because I thought I got blacklisted for some reason, as all the views I get come from me posting outside groups and forums.
      I'm trying my best but that doesn't seem to be enough, so hopefully something works out.

      @@thebordoshow either way I'm sticking around brother. My advice to help your channel grow would be making regular uploads, use the community posting to ask viewers what kind of stuff they like to see in your channel. Also don't forget that to succeed on UA-cam you do occasionally have to kiss their ass and feed the algorithm what it likes because no matter the type of channel the algorithm is a demanding beast who wants sugar one day and salt the next. But it did bring your channel to me so you're clearly doing something right. Oh and a Discord community wouldn't be a bad idea either. It would give you a place to talk with your subscribers In real-time. Build a strong community around your channel and the channel will eventually grow.

      @deussalt4479 great advice, I'll be implementing them over time.
      Catching the algorithm train is hard for me as I make videos in bulk and don't know where the hype is. But I got some ideas and hopefully it pans out

    People tend to focus on whether or not armour stops weapons well & for good reason. However from an adventurer context there are other reasons to wear protection. If one is rolling & sliding on the ground then it is quite handy to have leather gear to protect you from scrapes & abrasions.

    • @thebordoshow
      @thebordoshow  10 місяців тому +1

      Exactly, scrapes and browses take a tole on your body so any protection better than your skin is very beneficial

    I enjoy your videos, subject matter, and simple approach to them. You're lucky to live in such a historic country. I've seen modern leather armor made for medieval fighting leagues being layered with ABS plastic, all riveted together (3mm leather over 4.5mm ABS). This gives the desired protection, with the fantasy-leather look without the weight or maintenance needed for steel plates or banding. I make leather armor (renaissance fairs, LARP, cosplay) and may attempt the same one day.

    • @thebordoshow
      @thebordoshow  Рік тому +1

      thanks man.
      ABS plastic layering?! that sounds interesting. I'm trying to find a simpler alternative for lamellar plates, might check it out.
      I'm trying to use my luck to the fullest. big downside though is that work I do is not profitable here so I can't afford to go to the coolest and most interesting castles, keeps and towers.

    Very interesting topic - i have decided to not question the realism in fantasy series too much. As long as the armor does not hinder me during combat, i would consider it functional. Sure, we can discuss how common different times of armor, especially leather armor, was in historical battles. But we can also just enjoy the cool look instead. :D
    Thanks for your informative video!

      also we must remember that military has different standards, needs and goals than adventuring.
      Something might not work great on the battlefield but would work wonders on a solo quest.
      I wouldn't go with full plate, horse riding in a cave to fight goblins and I wouldn't wear a cloak of invisibility in a castle siege.

    Lindybeige has a video where he discusses how traditional armor and weapons are inefficent for the purposes of ye standarde D&D adventurers. For example, a sword might be great against a human opponent, but a dragon? No way! The same argument can easily be made for a spiked suit of armor -- formation fighting in it might be idiotic, but it would be great in taking down anything from pesty stirges to a wyvern.
    Great video as always!

      I beleive it was the Greeks who have a myth where a guy wears zpiked armour to fight a beast that tries to wrap around him like a boa constricter.

    • @DistractedChiroptera
      @DistractedChiroptera Рік тому +5

      @@ostrowulf, there also was the medieval European tale of the Lindworm, where the knight who slew it (as well as causing the problem in the first place) wore spikes on his armor when he fought it, to prevent the serpent from constricting him.

    • @thebordoshow
      @thebordoshow  Рік тому +4

      @Ostrowulf exactly my point!
      Going to war and being an adventurer are completely different things. I wouldn't recommend wearing full plate armor for dungeon delving or most other quests because it's defensiveness is outweighed by its incumbrance.
      I'm going to make videos about that very soon
